  1. Another fairly constructive, non-controversial thread destroyed by the DH gang. Nice work. You know, I was thinking that the handful (see what I did there?) causing *** here were the minority, giving the rest of the downhillers a bad name, with your 'I will moer you wif my full face helmet' attitude, but then I realised, DH is a tiny, weeny, whiny minority already. And the other two South African downhillers are too busy actually riding at this time of year to post here.
  2. Numbers 23:22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of a unicorn.
  3. Fastbike, you won't mind, I am sure, if I, too, share some stuff from the Good Book? First up, sorry for Lance, but he ain't going to heaven: Deuteronomy 23:1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord.
  4. Are you allowed to use a computer on a Sunday?
  5. Willy Engelbrecht has one of those. Or had, I remember he had it at his shop once.
  6. I think a Mod should give you a stern... um... talking-to for that.
  7. More proof, I am afraid, that the drug testers really, really need to start looking at the downhill crowd. So much of 'roid rage.
  8. That spider should have its own thread.
  9. Thats what happens when you stick the compressor up you.... oh, never mind.
  10. If R2500 is the wrong amount, the prosecutor will sort it out quickly - I agree it does sound a lot. But, still, the point remains, if you break the law you can't moan about getting punished. It doesn't matter if the guy next to you is smoking pot, not wearing a seatbelt or stabbing his passenger - you are still in the wrong. We all make mistakes. Take the punishment, learn your lesson and don't do it again.
  11. To be fair to the traffic guys in Sedgefield, they are out there all year nailing guys, not just targeting Oyster Festival. Which is good - used to drive that road regularly, and that was the safest stretch on the garden route, cos you never knew where the buggers might be waiting. I don't think you can fault Plod, you were not within the law. He has no choice but to fine you. Rather, don't give him a reason to.
  12. I can only presume I am the only hubber stupid enough to buy Bicycling's big, fat Tour de France guide... In their picks for the various jerseys - Schleck and Contador gunning for green, over last year's winner Anthony Charteau? That could be fun. The Who to Watch bits are a scream: Stage 2 Ronaldo Nocentini - umm, I don't think he is riding... STEFAN SCHUMACHER - ??? I suspect Mr Schumacher is less than welcome at the Tour. My ninety year old grandmother predicted a Gilbert win, he doesn't even make your top three? Experts, eh. Stage 12 Nice to chuck Moreau in for Bastille Day, pity he isn't actually riding. Stage 15 Exactly the same three as Stage 2??? Cut-and-paste button stuck? Stage 16 Robbie Hunter? Really? Even with a second-cat climb 10 km from the finish? Even if he isn't riding? Stage 21 Robbie Hunter? Really? Even if he was riding, really? C'mon. Did the tea lady put this guide together? And littered with spelling mistakes... shocker I am sure Schick is happy with the money they spent on this On a positive note, the Lance/doping article in the main mag is a good read. I will go back to reading it in the CNA, I think.
  13. I suspect morningglory got his mom to write that post, I understood every word
  14. I thought I was alone in feeling really, really old following this thread. Then I tried to get Google to translate, and it, too, failed miserably.
  15. Jeepers - it used to be the roadies who took the aggro pills here on the hub - has there been a DH-themed thread in recent weeks that hasn't descended (oops) into i'm-gonna-smack-you-wif-my-full-face-helmet-bro???
  16. Only if you ride back up the track.
  17. There are some gnarly singletrack climbs, I hear. So steep that, even though they are perfectly rideable climbs, I am told you need body armor to go down them.
  18. No, but yes... http://www.sheldonbrown.com/bbtaper.html But I would go with no. Rather find a Campy BB.
  19. XC boys too quick again?
  20. Horner, obviously. 39 years old and climbing like a 21 year old. Or maybe Levi, who is showing remarkable form. Oh, no, wait, maybe Mr Perfect10, Popo. Hell, this team worries me.
  21. I kinda lost faith in Carte Blanche when they managed to sell USN down the river, and put those doping rugger buggers on a pedestal. I don't think their goal is to find the truth, just a story that will help raitings. So, yes, they probably would run the story, I just wouldn't hold my breath on it achieving anything.
  22. Did you ride past a mirror? Silverbacks often crack when they see their paintjobs.
  23. Because it's a 29er? Doh!
  24. Let me rephrase that then... The type of bike that XC worlds is won on affects a handful of riders in South Africa - we don't ride like that generally. The bike that wins DH worlds affects a handful of riders in SA - we don't generally ride like that. The bike that wins world marathon champs is arguably more important to the riding we do here, but at the pointy end of the field - affects maybe 50 guys? The rest of us should be looking for anything but the above bikes for our riding needs. Personally, I believe a 29er ticks more boxes than a 26er for general riding, and even racing in the South African context. Not DH, yet, to bring this back on the topic, but everything else we try.
