Living in kzn we have a lot of races, I tend to stick to the one day events. Despite having the finance to enter the stage races and been fairly competative, I feel the cash is far better spent on a weekend away with the family.
If you have done 7000 km in a single chain and casette, chances are its all worn out. Invest in a chain checker and you will end up using one casette with many chains but importantly more than 7000km.
I ride 3 bikes and opted to insure under the house contents, I will only be paid if the bike/s are stolen from my workshop. The premium to insure all 3 on the open road is to great > R 450, I simply self insure and put the R 450 in a call account and draw if major damage is sustained. DIY no option. I race the bike, I only trust my own work. Most of the bike is simple, only FS bearings and shocks need expert attention. DIY is simple, if you get stuck Park Tools on the net are realy good.
