  1. Lap1 Lill in 14s back in 9th
  2. Definitely, and these trails exists. Think logged pine forests, natural and rocky trails. ie: Grabouw, Tokai, Eden (fallen trees still need to be logged though last time I checked.)
  3. Do you still have the Camber? Putting the 29er wheels on the stumpy is probably as simple as swapping out end caps on those hubs. you can probably re-use the current hub and spokes. Those Roval hubs dt Swiss clones. Pretty good.
  4. I could reuse the spokes when I rebuilt the Rapide onto the Roval wheels on mine. So I taped the wheels together and transferred the spokes one at a time. A drill with a long bit helped the process a long. Saved rebuild and spoke costs. Might be worth checking out for your bike. And the Rapide rims are quite a bit stronger, at a slight weight penalty. Totally worth it. man’s also, the N-subs trails are hard on tyres. High speeds and sharp rocks ask more of wheels than the Boland riders riding mostly flow trails.
  5. Lekker!!! nog baie tyd. met jou die fiets soveel as wat jy kan die eerste jaar van jou kind se lewe. Jy gaan eers weer soveel tyd kry wanneer jou laaste kind 4 jaar oud is.
  6. Naah, the Roval rims are okay. Not too heavy, not too light, not too weak, not too strong. And cheap for spez, so they get specced on their bikes. I managed to ding one Roval rim, on a rocky trail, while experimenting with low pressure. Not the roval’s fault. And that wheel lasted quite a while longer after that. including an Ezelduro. Arguably the rockiest riding around in the western cape. Eventually replaced it with a Rapide. But let’s be honest Robbie, you knew you were going to replace that back rim eventually when you got the bike (I’m comfortable to guess that it’s the back rim.) my suggestion: Inserts are a crutch for the unskilled, but an insurance package for the highly skilled racers. Maxxis EXO tyres are good enough, if pumped hard enough.Minder Neanderthal, Meer feëtjie. learn to be softer on your wheels, Smooth is fast. Smoother is the beter path to progression than Faster.
  7. Because when on the clock, proficient riders dial it up two notches, and the risk is more. Makes sense for motorsports. Try getting track day insurance for a Porsche/Ferrari and see where the premiums are.
  8. Put a washer or two between the frame and bottle cage on the lower bolt ONLY. This pushes the bottom of the bottle up, and the tip of the bottle down away from the shock. Coupled with a side entry cage and 750s won’t be an issue.
  9. The trance has better suspension in front. Rear is comparable. Marzochi z2 is in a different class to the rockshox silver. And anyone who thinks SRAM SX is better than the 12spd of Shimano deore needs to get their head read. Trance has a carbon frame, compared to the Ali Skyrim, and all that is just on paper. Having ridden a trance, I reckon it hits the sweet spot for SA riding. im saying this as someone who is riding a Scott Genius at the moment. But I’d probably choose that Trance now if I was in the market.
  10. Of These three I’d buy the Trance in a heartbeat.
  11. I’d take SLX Hubs over Novatec every day.
  12. It was all of that and more. I spent about 50mins in the pain cave on the last climb. The rest was manageable and I managed to have enough left in the tank to go hunting on the last descent into town. 7h20 total time. I have a few epic core memories from this one, hiking up Cradock pass while joking with a bunch of guys from my town, running along a ridge line between Skurwekop and Kransberg, with the Klein Karoo to the left and the Garden route to the right, descending down from Tonnelbos to town, having just been deep in the pain cave and deciding F-it, it’s time to catch people. And then finishing with my two kids running next to me. I hope to be back for the Outeniqua trail Pilgrimage next year.
  13. I’ve had a lot of success on eservices when it gets to CoCT issues. But when it is a provincial road or some other government entity it falls apart. It seems that they don’t talk to each other.
  14. Anyone else at George MUT this weekend? I’ll be throwing my hat in the ring for the marathon. Quite amped for an Outeniqua adventure.
  15. Your raw talent is probably what attracted you to bikes when all your peers were playing rugby. A lot of kids ride bikes, only a few really love riding. I’m with you on kids doing team sports as well. The Tiger Woods syndrome is way too prevalent, especially in our kids’ school.
  16. Oi!!! Speak for yourself. I can probably lose a few kgs on my bike, not much on myself, but I’ll rather take a rugged and fun bike than a fragile thoroughbred. I will however unashamedly swap to lighter, faster rolling tyres for gravel adventures and back to the thick and grippy tyres for trails action. On tyres you’ll feel a noticeable difference way faster than a 500g frame difference. Bought a fast bike? How dare ye!!
  17. If Bos says he has a bit of skill, I reckon he is just naturally better than roughly 73.8% of the crowd that rides there. Knee pads, full face and Jonkershoek in two years time.
  18. I used to (11years ago) work at SWH head office in footwear. The different widths never sold well enough for NB to warrant bringing in a wide range of them. Most brands have offers at many different price ranges. You are just starting out, you really don’t need the higher end shoes. You can wait for specials, or keep on eye on the brand’s websites for deals on older colourways, and you can go to the factory shops. Daar is altyd erens ‘n bargain.
  19. Nope. Trail running event in the Cederberg.
  20. We had two. A Cellino jogger with the first child, and then a Phil&teds tandem pram when the second came along. Running with them sucks. We really tried, but they only come into their own on as running prams on flat uninterrupted roads. They don’t turn well when on pace, so you don’t want corners or sidewalks. And they get heavy. We preferred running with them on the promenade or on platteland back roads. But it was good uplift time for us. however, the thick air filled wheels are a game changer if you spend your weekends at markets, wine farms and nature reserve walkies. And it worked like a bomb for walking your baby girl to sleep on THOSE days. So I recommend getting a 2nd hand one, you’ll use it a lot, just not how you imagined it.
  21. There’s an organization in the Western Cape that has a habit of hosting events with some vital aspects awol. Like starting an event without having ambulance and medics on site yet.
  22. Ellsworth has a history of bikes that are less lekker to look at.
  23. Are you in a hurry to fix it? if not, get the right insert. If that fails, an engineering shop will help you with cutting/turning and sorting out your options. if you are in a hurry, go to a bolt shop and see if you can vind a threaded rod or bolt that fits you scenario , insert wheel, thread bolt/rod into frame and tighten other side with spanner (or a nut if you are using a threaded rod.
