  1. "it's not about the bike" - that Lance guy you were telling me about.
  2. I am UCT student and currently, as far as I am aware, no one is supposed to have access to campus without having filled out a health check. This may even have been extended to no access to campus unless you have permission to be there, as last time I was there was still below level 4. They don’t seem willing to man every entrance so I’m sure you can still get in some ways, I’m just not sure you’re really supposed to. That’s my understanding anyway, I’m probably wrong as I’m on holiday and haven’t checked my UCT emails in ages.
  3. The same can be said about me weighing 62 and the guys I ride with weighing 75+... haha
  4. This is true for all bike purchases ????
  5. So cool to hear it went to an appreciative home ????
  6. I reckon he has bought 3 bargains already and sold them on for a profit to accumulate some cash for his new build.
  7. In other words you are between Landies
  8. We saw one in stellies yesterday and the guy I was riding with thought it was sub 8kg… he probably reckons the disc road bike he was riding is sub 7 haha!
  9. At the expense of losing views and ad revenue I think the small cost would be higher than you would expect. Edit: ignore me I should finish reading before responding...
  10. Wow... I hope reviews are being left on these guys. Did not realize this was such an issue!
  11. Agreed. Many guys are passionate cyclists and have successful businesses or make a bit of money based off buying and selling second hand stuff where they see opportunity... It is really wishful thinking that this wouldn't happen, it is a tragedy of the commons unfortunately. Consider paying for Bikehub Plus if you want instant alerts when the things you want are posted, and also supporting the site.
  12. I have bought an impressive amount of cycling goods and I haven't had any similar experiences. Maybe I don't get my hopes up as much so my memories aren't as good, but I am sorry you feel this way. I have met some awesome people through here. Hopefully you come right soon... PS I have only bought road and gravel stuff really! Haha
  13. A friend's dad had to help a recumbent cyclist over that pipe the other day... Wish there was a better solution.
  14. Must be the Brittain brothers… As a former rower I am really looking forward to seeing how they do!
  15. Alternatively… does anyone know what the availability of XDR drivers for hopes is like?
  16. Would anyone want to swap some non boost hope pro 4 for DT 350 or some cash and 240s looking at you @lukelockie
  17. Does anyone know what the Discovery Insurance structure on bikes is like? I insured mine for the build value in parts as I sourced everything second hand. I am wondering what would happen if I crashed and needed new Canyon specific bars, for example?
  18. That is seriously impressive...
  19. By this logic you will soon be telling people they need a bike made in the last 10 years to ride on the mountain and they aren’t allowed to ride rim brakes on the road! Many riders safely navigate their gravel bikes all over trails that people use a dual sus trail bike for (I am not one of these people). People should just ride what makes them happy!
  20. From what I have seen they are awesome! @Pure Savage can hang on pretty well on his so it must be pretty good...
  21. Which Lauf are you running? I have the option of running a friend's trail boost on my gravel bike but it might be a bit overkill... also only a couple of 100 extra grams for a much more comfy ride though.
  22. I’m sure postnet allows you to add insurance… I might just start now on high value items
  23. Perhaps try a wanted ad too in the classifieds
  24. I reckon a 2x gravel bike with a set of road wheels and a set of gravel wheels is perfect. Something that can run wiiide 650b gravel tyres is ideal. I really don't think you lose much on the road unless you are serious about racing. Just make sure you pick up some of the easy marginal gains along the way... Fast rolling road tyres, light saddle, nice light and stiff bar and stem, etc.
  25. Bit of a change in topic but: Can someone explain to me what the story is with doing non CSA licensed races when you have a domestic racing license? I’m keen to do some gravel events but it seems like very few are CSA licensed and I definitely don’t want to end up with a fine or suspension or something like that.
