  1. Less maintenance on a hard tail, and if you a mid fielder makes little difference. Climbing is awesome. I too did the same journey; full suspension => hard tail. Get some good maxxis trail tires if you want a softer ride and run lower pressure - comfort sorted.
  2. I am sure this is not a valid parking spot ....
  3. That ride was the most fun I have had on the MTB in a while ... Was totally crazy and totally awesome ... I could not stop smiling after each mud segment .... Yeah, plenty of damage on components, but for that awesome ride .... totally worth it ... Bike is already at the bike shop ....
  4. So the entry fee was around R440 How many cyclists do you think entered ? last number was 7000 so lets say 3500 entered, that would be 440*3500 = R1.5 million probably more than that ... I guess it was a big pay day for just printing some race numbers ...
  5. I noticed this on the web site now I would strongly advise against entering this event ever the future, because you can bet that 2023, 2024, 2025 etc will be the new and improved with better organization etc etc The 2022 entry fee can be kept by the organizers, but the statement from us cyclists should be no future support at all. So enjoy the 2022 fees organizer guys. If you wanted to come clean, just tell us how much you spent and refund the balance. At least that is honest. (By the way, How could you still be taking cyclists money on Saturday and then no refund on Sunday, when you knew you didnt have your ducks in a row,)
  6. Here is the Twitter link if you would like to share or read Twitter link
  7. I did this event a few years ago with my kid ...was awesome...was looking forward to it...I stand to be corrected but its sad to see that the organisation was a betting organisation on numbers... eg if we get x number we can proceed but since we did not get the numbers cant ... or so it seems...
  8. I saw you getting into the car as I rode past ...and I thought this cyclist must have had a fall with the bloody face.. it's a shocker to hear that it was a brawl... cycling is for enjoyment .... sad to hear that people hold so much anger inside while cycling ... hopefully you find the perpetrator and name and shame ... I'm sure his boss family and customers will see him in a new light ...
  9. Seems that it is not happening today...guess first time for everything ......
  10. I think the blame is with the law, and the disrespect for it ... Drivers like this will be a dime a dozen, until law is enforced competently... I have yet to see taxi drivers stopped for running red lights, driving on the yellow line, etc so if you cant prevent minor crimes, how on earth do you prevent bigger crimes like this? To me it starts at the top of the food chain, and ends with this driver at the bottom, and it should be jail time etc ... but alas the poor rule of the land degrades and a blind eye is turned ...
  11. Hi Guys, Where would you recommend hiring a bicycle from in Cape Town ? Thanks in advance
  12. Thanks ... agree stans - there is no compromise ... it just works and works and works ...
  13. Hi Guys, Is there a shortage of the good stuff in South Africa ... I have been battling to find good ol stans .... Checked cyclelab, cwc and sportsmans warehouse ... Anyone know where any is available near the dome area ? Last resort is an international order ...
  14. arrested for cycling ... https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/wheels-of-justice-johannesburg-cyclist-who-defied-lockdown-arrested-20200327
  15. They might need to understand the numbers ... so lets say 35,000 cyclists and lets just say 40% are from different provinces .. 14,000 and lets say 7000 have friends and family to stay with .. and the other 7000 need to book in somewhere ... and lets say its R750 per night ... thats over 5 million rand made in a weekend for the region on accommodation ... ...and then my stats on the numbers are off - but if someone knows them - we can quickly calculate closer to the actual ... but that would be a waste of time .. its a political agenda .. rather than an actual benefit ...
  16. “The people who take part in the bicycle races have bicycles worth R10 000 and sunglasses of R1000, yet the City of Cape Town still gives each one of them nearly R500 to participate." Yip, not only that - they spent it in bicycle shops and created jobs, also spent it at hotels and created jobs, also spent at restaurants and created jobs ... You should really thank these super stars of the community ... but alas - these elites can do nothing good ... except ride their expensive bikes ... Although I am not sure of the R500 to participate - I never received such an incentive ... maybe I used the wrong web site ? Where is this R500 ?
  17. Let me think ... errrm - probably I spent thousands if not tens of thousands on bikes and races ... who did this go to ? Well the bike store owner - he has a family and a house probably ... so he probably has a Gardner and a cleaner who he has to pay from my purchase .. his Staff - yes the bike mechanic, the cleaning staff, the salesperson all get paid from my purchase .. then we start talking about where the bike was manufactured and the value chain involved in the production .. those hard working factory types ... they also got a cut .. The advertising staff who came up with the brand and marketing of the bike - get some kind of cut as well .. tax - yes even the government took their tax cut from my bike purchase - probably to fund the social grant program ... and probably salaries etc actually I really dont feel bad about spending on bikes and growing the economy at all. I enjoy my ride and who those who benefited from my purchase ... Then i think of the tour - last time I did it, i spent thousand being a tourist in Cape Town - the restaurants, the beer , the socializing - all this supported business in the area and their staff and families, and probably it created a climate of employment to benefit the community ... Then I think of all the crew who get involved in a cycle race - the cleaners, the organizers, the food/drink stalls - all these people who benefit from my entry fee... If anything the whole of Cape Town should encourage people to cycle in their area because of the economic knock-on benefit to the whole community... but if you must protest and disrupt the race .. hopefully you gave the entire value chain some thought ...

  19. 50 year old @ 75kg vs 25 year old at 75kg - both same fitness Who will win ? There is a reason why you dont see "old" pro's in the peloton ...
  20. Then ... my other question .. for the finalists ... Its a "power" based comp on the watt bikes at the end of 2017 epic ? Then what about vets and masters and for that matter grand masters .. wont make same power as younger riders ... what about mixed teams ... male + female ... also power differences ...
  21. Is it just me - or is the announcement of the finalists an afterthought ? What I mean - there is much hype and excitement when the comp is launched, during the comp, strava is pumped with announcements ... then when its time to announce the finalists- its kind of - o yes there is something here to do lets see if we get some time for it ... Why not make it BIG- with a count down clock etc, and a lekker update to the web page on "finalist" day ... as part of the campaign .. and then of course the "grand daddy" update for the actual winner ..
  22. Saturday had mud; Sunday had mud - much less - a lot of riders didnt come because of the rain .. it actually turned out great. I think the current thinking is : if you arrive on the Sunday - and enter the race - its unfair to the others who rode on Saturday and have some fatigue in the legs (i.e. you ride "A" batch , and miss the Saturday - then arrive on Sunday to take the Victory of stage 2)
  23. #awsome job by racetec - results up ... Apparently the new road resurface has much more steel underneath .. caused an issue with the signal bounce ...
  24. guess strava to the rescue ?
  25. The two tone color is not great ... It would be a looker if the entire frame and chain stays were "black" .. with the other "bits" yellow as is ...
