  2. Is Raleigh South AFrican?

  4. Casci If you want to use my bike bag, pm me. It is sitting in my garage at the moment and I am not planning on travelling any time in the next 2 or 3 months. Not the greatest but it will do the same job as a box.
  5. Dont forget, the Quarq ships without the computer so you either need to buy their computer (which is seriously sweet looking- http://www.quarq.us/Computers/Qranium.html) at $995 or else get an Edge 705. Total cost - $2,190
  6. What about track and field or did none of them qualify?

    Gear ratio's

    JB, your answer was the one I was looking for. Using a std wheel size which travles 2085 m per revolution, I calculated the whole table and there is certainly extensive duplication. Below is the charts - the first table is unsorted and the second is sorted in terms of maximum travel: Rear cassetteCranksMetres11239 6.78 21339 6.26 31439 5.81 41539 5.42 51639 5.08 61739 4.78 71939 4.28 82139 3.87 92339 3.54 102539 3.25 111253 9.21 121353 8.50 131453 7.89 141553 7.37 151653 6.91 161753 6.50 171953 5.82 182153 5.26 192353 4.80 202553 4.42 Rear cassetteCranksMetres102539 3.25 92339 3.54 82139 3.87 71939 4.28 202553 4.42 61739 4.78 192353 4.80 51639 5.08 182153 5.26 41539 5.42 31439 5.81 171953 5.82 21339 6.26 161753 6.50 11239 6.78 151653 6.91 141553 7.37 131453 7.89 121353 8.50 111253 9.21
  8. Here is a question - why didn't they make the brake pads red as well instead of yellow? Apart from that, I am green with envy. That is one SWEET looking groupo!
  9. I was wondering, I am currently riding a 53/39 with a 12/25 rear cassette. Effectively this means that I have 20 gears but I never actually use all 20. When changing from 53 to 39, I will flick down from 25 to about 21 or 19. This gives me 3 or 4 more gears to use before I have to concentrate on spinning. This means that I am losing (on the downshift) the entire range from 12 to 19. The same happens the other way where if I go from 39 to 53, I might flick up on the rear cassette from 12 to about 14 or 15 (not alwyas though) I read an article somewhere but cannot find it which helps you calculate what all the ratio's mean (i.e. all the combos). Can anybody explain this please?
  10. Piet can like to ride his bike wearing a jean pant wiff a sok

    What MTB?

I have been a roadie for 3 years and would now like to dabble on the dark and dirty side. 1. With regards to buying a MTB, how do you decide: - Hardtail - Full suspension? 2. Then what is the difference on all the types of shocks? 3. Next question is: - Shimano - SRAM 4. Final question: - what spec of groupset (based on previous question) I was hoping to come in at around R8k. Can it be done?
  12. As long as you are wearing a jean pant - only then can you arm yourself to the tooth (or tooths) word2008-04-08 02:14:37

POPCORN!!! Yeah! Now who is going to sponsor a coach we can sit on?
  17. Something else that bothers me - if you ride on rolling hills, the road is called undulating. Does that mean a flat road is dulating?
  18. More importantly, if something can burn is it flammable or inflammable??
  19. No
  20. I beg to differ. It is a 305 to the uninitiated but a 350 to those of us who know it personally OK - BUSTED. It was a typoword2008-03-27 08:33:18
  21. Veloce, I think that it depends on the thickness of your rims. My training wheels are Mavic Ksyriums and when those are on the bike, the caliper quick release is right down. However, when I use my Equinox rims, I have to keep the caliper adjusted (about half way up/down) to take into account the fact that the carbon clinchers are wider.
  22. GO, there you go with that cunning linguist thing again
  23. Keith, Powertap is expensive. It is a power meter. You should definitely try and get a comp with a cadence sensor. Sigma have an entry level one. Alternatively Cateye is also very good. If you want max info, go for the Garmin edge 350. Great if you are an info junkie. You can then download all ride data to your computer, shows heart rate, cadence, gradient, speed etc.
  24. Waxing but it hurts like F&*%$!G HELL
