MMMMM - seems I have found the person who put the gastro bug into the air at this years S2C. I was lucky enough to appear healthy all the way to Scottburgh but all holy hell broke loose when I arrived back in Jhb. Spent 3 days in bed with gastro (at least in bed when I wasn't imprisoned in the crapper). On the plus side (easy to look at that now that I am feeling human again), managed to lose all the weight I put on as a result of too many donuts and slices of banana bread

How do they make it optional? The route will be marked so do you just close your eyes whenever you see a route marking?

Anybody hear about this year being made self-navigation?

I found that using an MTB the first few times really helped. After I got the hang of it, I switched back to the road bike

Take 2 tubes. Your best bet is to go to Cyclelab - I saw on the weekend that they are selling 29er tubes that have been vacuum packed so they take up very little space. Only problem with them is that they are not pre-slimed but thats not a train smash. Best advice I got was to pack your riding kit for each day in a large zip lock bag so you have 3 "packs". Makes it easy on the day to get ready.
