  1. What is advanced empathy, Dale? Is that feeling sorry for Gen when Peter is far away?
  2. Very interesting thread. I am a coach in another sport, and followed a very serious 4.5 to 6 hours a day when I was young (before fire was discovered). I started cycling 6/7 years ago and lost a ton of weight I had picked up, but didn't train properly and got a bit better, except for technical skills, which remain appalling even after lessons. But since breaking my pelvis last Dec, I have been implementing a 'proper' regimen of what I would consider High Intensity stuff just using a HR monitor like we did back in the day. Up to 2 hours, 3x per week. Last Tuesday I set a long (45min) KOM that 6 months ago I would have thought totally impossible. I have no interest in being competitive, except in my own head, and I am far too old and heavy to beat the laaities and the lighties... But Stricker, if you are serious and you do things consistently and properly, you can do quite interesting things. And you don't even need Epol and other suspicious nutrition.

  4. Really lovely route today, except for the wind, so organisers, pls sort that out for next year... A lovely ride for people who want a scenic route that's not too intimidating!
  5. I was just thinking of Phil Wright and his late night Wednesday metal hour yesterday in the car as I pulled out some really obscure albums I would never have heard of. Barney never appealed, but as a small town boy who only knew Bonnie Jo Vee I was blown away when Phil played Metallica's 'One'. #actuallyquitesentimental
  6. Retro-thread of the ********... Edit: decade. Spelling
  7. He must be American cos most of our ripped Bergies have different drugs of choice.
  8. I will PM u his details. I am going tomorrow morning for number 4. Last week was jumping and doing bunny hops so I don't blunder into every single bloody rock, boulder, weed and squirrel on the track. Myles will also vouch for him - very nice bloke.
  9. I have gone to a few skills lessons with one of the guys who is at the top of most of the downhill KOM's and he says the gorge is deceptively difficult even for him because their is a point where you cannot go faster due to the shape of the jumps. I am nowhere near that and get very little air, if any, but he reckons there have been more crashes there than anywhere else.
  10. I ride the segment twice this weekend. I have to manually upload my older Garmin so I use my phone to check the ride. This segment, both times, was 45s faster on my Garmin. It looks correct according to the map of the segment. My phone seems to have a wider GPS signal and picks up and extra distance at the top for some reason. Very odd. Edit: but most segments were within a second or two. Think it's mostly a problem of short and/or switchback segments.
  11. Hehe, from that angle that hat/hair makes it look like you are sidling up to that cowboy, Trump!
  12. Evan looks remarkably like one of Ryan Lochte's pals. Wonder if he also wears those grills on his teeth when he stands on the podium he has built in his bedroom?
  13. It is smoother. How do you think I got to my current Cobra downhill ranking of 905 or so...?
  14. I asked a similar question a while ago. I think it's Myles,but so far I have no proof.
  15. I saw my first eBike KOM on the Tygerberg trails recently. Hmmm... Atleast him and his buddy were fairly obvious about it. #Makeitprivate or everyone starts doubting the animals!
  16. THAT is why I'm so tardy! and it's got nothing to do with how many minutes I am slower on the downhill bit.
  17. These okes are beasts. Went and had some fun in the weekend, improved 500 places and I'm still 4mins behind on the segment. Eish
  18. Those 180km stages are going to be eina. Good luck, peeps!
  19. Maybe on Android it is different, cos I've never had a dark anything and the new one looks better. Always been white. IPhone is different though.
  20. looks like The mind of a call center operator after a heavy weekend?
