  1. You'll need a cassette tool and chain whip first to get the cassette off Google should help you locate some shops nearest to you
  2. Nothing wrong with AGM batteries - just remember to set the inverter to the type of battery needed for charging and you'll be just fine (AGM's hate a trickle charge - they musty be pumped full as quick as possible. I've set my inverter to hit them with 20amp charge) You should get around 3 000 cycles out of a set of AGM's. That's plenty for the next few years. Just remember that they don't like to be taken below 50% capacity - which means a bit of a lifestyle change when you're on inverter power. The rule in my house is no heating appliances allowed on the inverter (although we have over spec'd and can run everything anyway, but that's not the point) The rest is fair game And lastly, make sure your inverter is able to take additional items, like Pv or another inverter in parallel so that when you want to expand the system, you simply plug and play forward. If you're not comfortable with the info from your supplier, get the details they're offering and run it past me or Theo in PM. And the offer from Theo is a good one on the batteries - chat to him
  3. I still see a ton of arrogance in the reply from tygerbergchap above. Permits aside, if you think the day warrior is busting your trails I'd hazard a guess that you can't see further than your nose. It's most likely the regulars that are cutting fast lines into the trails as they try find that all important holy grail line of speed (which I understand) I'm convinced it's more a rant that day visitors are slowing the regulars down, and they are complaining that the trails are getting wrecked by the slow uneducated riders - you know, that fast dude that can't wait for a safe right of passage to get past on a single trail I see it as a crock of the proverbial from the original writer. He's welcome to DM me too. I'll buy the first milkshake
  4. Challenge accepted. I'll be in that neck of the woods on the 18th. I'll chat to mtb1234 to get a bike. I'll even come dressed in lycra so I'm easy to pick out from the locals Makes me the f*%cking moer in when people flex their rank without their brain farting first
  5. Reminds me of a previous meme about the epic. I guess we could next level it? Too soon?

    Sub 5 minute Mile

Wonder if its a fund raiser for rent on their fancy HQ 🔫
  7. Agreed - the key is the solar panels
  8. Not bad pricing to be honest Just do your homework on the brands that any supplier offers (inverter and batteries)
  9. You wont save a cent if you dont run lithium batteries and solar Its a bit of a chicken and egg situation
  10. Always better to over scope the requirements which will allow for future expansion (retrofits are always more expensive anyway) 2kva will be better but I'm not even sure if you get that locally?
  11. You get about 80% power factor when you convert to kva. With those numbers you'd need around a 1.5kva inverter/system to run the pumps
  12. Yep, its that pv installation cost and coc that you dont budget for.... they hit you an arm and a leg for it. The rest is a minor cost to be honest
  13. @W@nted We put in a 5kva hybrid system and have no issues with it, probably similar consumption to your monthly usage too. Just manage the usage on batteries and you'll be fine. You can always upgrade to the 8kva later and sell the 5kva when you need to - it wont hang around for long I can assure you edit: Just re-read your post: pop the 8kva in now if funds are ok, add pv when funds allow. For now you can use eskom to recharge the batteries outside of loadshedding. That way you can just get on with life and be happy
  14. Which in code, means that the other consumers in the house shouldn't go and blast every appliance just because the system can run it... Its all about changing the habits of consumption to best maximize the availability of the system. Imagine if Ouzo's MIL wanted to crank up the old block telly but couldn't because the geyser had used a lot of the battery availability... World war 3 I tell you
  15. To me it is a lifestyle change.. like getting cooking and coffee off grid onto gas. And if there is charging of laptops, phones etc that needs to be done, do it when eksdom is available. The same goes for hair dryers and big pull items that require heating/resistors My 5kva inverter is only there to provide lights and entertainment. It does drive the entire household though, but we chose not to. I can also ride my bike in a safe environment any time of the day or night, so I'm not forced to IDT at weird hours and therefore dont need to power any IDT's The jackery box works like a charm for its intended use as does an Ecoflow. But us saffers want the Hilux for everything instead of utilizing the tools at hand for the intended usage. By the time you've spent dosh on a small inverter box to power a kettle once off, you're better off buying a Bailetti style machine and small gas burner from Outdoor World
  16. I have a jackery box, works like a charm. I never ran an IDT off it although I did threaten to test and never got around to it. It used to run my wifi, big telly, sound system and lamp for around 2 1/2 to 3 hours. I could get longer use out of it by disconnecting the sound system and replace the lamp with a battery light. It could not run a kettle, or coffee pod machine - it simply didnt have the ompfff I now run an inverter system so the jackery box has been redeployed to the ex's house for some use Jackery is great because it took about 6 hours to fully recharge if it was totally empty. Or, the same amount of time to recharge from the car. It has great use as a portable system for camping or what ever outdoor activity you need it for. No, I'm not selling mine
  17. Don't finance it, rather save your coins to buy outright. Brands won't make a difference if you do purchase on tick The end
  18. Ouzo - pick a budget then go shop for best bang for buck, otherwise you'll be chasing the tail down the rabbit hole and getting mad with the MIL Or, get her to chip in a few bob to cover her happiness... 😉 edit: and once you have the inverter system you want, you need to get the family to change their habits of electricity consumption - especially during the dark times (example, Mommy needs to make sure the laptop/phones etc is charged for the shedding period - you dont want the inverter to charge stuff and run them. Thats more consumption)
  19. That looks like it was dropped on the fork at some stage - probably the only way that tongue will snap off. There's enough meat for the QR clamp system to still hold it while riding. Maybe not for redbull big end stuff, but certainly for the average rookie its not a problem. I'm sure it was dropped then the wheel clamped on for a noob to be none the wiser
  20. Snap snap. Thanks for the bus ride home Frosty
  21. Eeek! Looks tooit like a tooiger @RobertWhiteheadshould be able to help with suggestions
  22. I'll supply popcorn and free beers
  23. An LBS is in the business of repeat business... I'm sorry to digress the original topic too, there's no point in discussing the merits of good business practice in this thread. Lets carry on lynching the OP till friday. Thats more fun 🏹 Whos got extra long pitchforks then?
  24. Please enlighten my misdirection then PygaSchymga Fanks
