  1. I find that I can usually get a 28 to fit at the back, as long as I move the wheel quite far back in the horizontal dropouts. In the front I can often get a 32 to fit, even if it may mean deflating the tyre a bit to squeeze it through the brake calipers. This go for all my locally made frames. (On my Italians, 25 is the biggest I can get to work.) The only way is to give it a try. If you buy tyres, just tell the shop that you may want to come and exchange it for a different size if necessary. My Lbs did this for me a good few times. And, yes, I have Gatorskins on all of them.
  2. Gee, that's the "I have no heart disease" route up to the Blockhouse, so don't waste money on cardiologists from now on.ðŸĪŠ
  3. I had it lucky once, only once. We have a place about 50 km North of Prince Albert, and it is a great rolling ride to town, to have a cup of coffee and a croissant, then up the Swartberg Pass (the best on earth, but plenty streneous) and back down and 50 km home. When I road it in the morning the corrugations were horrible, but hey, I was still fresh. When I got off he Swartberg on my way home, after lunch, I really didn't look forward to that part.................and when I hit the dirt, it was as smooth as a babies bottom with hardly a car track on it..........for nearly 50 kms I had it like that before I caught up with the grader a few kms from our turn off gate. Like I said, only once.
  4. Road freshly graded specially for you 👍
  5. Just love the "David Attenborough" narration 😀😀
  6. I simply love it that there are thinking creative people out there who can conceptualize a bike build like this. Not just a paint job, but a truly personal and meaningful work of art.
  7. If in Cape Town, take it to Durasole in Wynberg, speak to Mr Parbo. They have been in the shoe business for generations and know their stuff. They use a heat activated bonding process that is not available for DIY. They have on occasion also stitched soles, that were only glued by the manufacturer, to the uppers for some of my boots. They have resuscitated many favourite hardworking hiking and flyfishing boots as well as rock climbing shoes for me over many years and they repair shoes better than anyone else. The true test for a sole glue happens on our freestone trout streams where your wading boots must first hike and climb a few kilometres and then spend the day rock hopping and wading in the stream on round slippery stones before hiking back out to the car.........if they survive that, you know you have a good repair. http://www.durasole.co.za/durasole-contact-details.html But I like the stainless or brass screws / nuts idea and may just try it next time.
  8. Sheesh, I'm going to be way more careful next time I dig a hole in my backyard to bury someone. 😜
  9. The Cape is really in shape lately👍
  10. You masochist you!😜
  11. That is not a cage, it's the latest see-through container specially designed for Saffas. It allows thieves and looters to see what is inside so they don't have to waste time breaking into containers with low value items inside.
  12. I don't sommer say things like WTF all that easily, but THIS really calls for it!
  13. Phone Woodstock Cycle Works and talk to Nils. He has a shopful of classics and might just have something for her to use. I know he helped overseas riders in the years before Covid. He usually goes to Eroica himself and if he does, he may just be able to take it with. If anyone can help, Nils can. What size road bike would suit her? http://www.woodstockcycleworks.com/contact
  14. Amazing how long he managed to keep it together and how nearly he came to recovering and not crashing. Bike skills! Now, if it was me, I would have been down with something broken within a metre.
  15. Fokkit, this is making me even more the moerin. Both are in my backyard and some of the very last places I felt safe.
  16. Note to self: Get to Cecelia soon and go check my usual "secret" spots at Rhodes! It's nearly May and time for Boletus Edulis! Thanks for the heads up!
  17. The big guns above Simonstown?
  18. They did not build a cycle lane through St J ames and Kalk Bay in favour of more on street parking.
  19. You seasoned it with three letter words? Perhaps you should have used spicier ones........Afrikaans ones😜
  20. I mentioned those other things, because as a ratepayer I would rather the City spend my money on fixing those things before wasting it on something like this exercise in distraction. Hope my point is now a little clearer.
  21. If you look at it purely from a "competitive" cyclist point of view, then yes, it makes no sense to use the promenade. Going down Beach Rd with your group at 30 km/h is a much better way. BUT You have to remember that there are many other kinds of cyclists also, and for many of them the promenade makes more sense and it does not have to increase risk for anyone. Imagine a tourist renting a city bike and just cruising at jogger speed. Imagine a 6 year old with a 12 inch bike riding with his mom who is jogging. Imagine the guy riding a 1980s chopper as a fashion statement. I'm not even talking about the longboarder or the in line skater who they also want to ban.
  22. Like I said, I'm grumpy today because I have a sore arm, so I basically told them to please stop the vagrants from defecating on the sidewalk first, then we can talk about not riding a bike or a skateboard there!
  23. Me too, and just because I'm grumpy today, I wrote a lekker long comment too.
  24. Check with Woodstock Cycle Works if they have leather bartape. Niels had some made up and when I was there last (pre-pandemic I must admit) he still had a few rolls. If not, there is a leather shop right next door (Velobrien, talk to Gareth) and they can make whatever you want. They are also particularly good at refurbshing and re-covering saddles with leather.
