The cycle lab bullies are at it again - we were riding in the cradle this morning when a large peloton of cycle lab guys, riding 4 abreast and taking up the whole road, started hurling abuse and swearing at riders telling them to get out the way and move over. Not one was riding in the cycle lane. Who is responsible for these groups? One day someone is going to get hurt !!!

So here's the thing... maybe a little bit of perspective. I ride in the CL bunches and whenever someone rides more than 2 abreast, they do get reprimanded. The marshals are constantly shouting out for the group to keep it tidy. It's never perfect, but mostly clean and safe.

Two situations are blown out of proportion and not seen for what they are:

    1. There are a LOT of non-club members that jump onto the bunch in the cradle. They often don't ride to the group's rules, but they also get called out. This is a touchy one and almost always results in a fight. And then CL gets called a bully. But honestly, if u invite yourself to a bunch (and you really shouldn't), then FIFO.

    2. There are about 6 road groups with the faster groups doing longer routes (108km vs. 93km). When overtaking a bunch, yes it looks like 4 abreast, but it's really not. If overtaking another CL bunch, yes it absolutely looks that way coz everyone's in club kit, but I can assure you it's VERY temporary.

If you really are so aggrieved, all the Marshals and many club members are at the Fourways store for brekkie around 10am, come have a chat and air your gripes. It will be taken seriously. But to sit and moan online and assume they are bullies is just looking for negativity and drama.

Nobody wakes up wanting to annoy the entire cycling community. Sometimes it's a perk (thats a joke for those that wont get it), but really we just want to get out with mates and forget about life's other challenges for a few hours. For most of us, the best part is having some coffee after, not counting who cheesed off the highest number of people that morning!

Just make sure when you get there at 10am you dont meet this fella: "started huling abuse and swearing at riders telling them to get out the way and move over" or we might have to come with an ambulance for you.

Not exactly the big cars that Ouza is peddling to the high flyers, but like I said to That Rusty Character, this is our first car with electric windows 😂

Prepare yourself for advice on anything from the brand of toothpaste to the deodorant you should use. 😂

Regarding Thule roof racks, there are two factors to consider: the length of the rails and the fixtures. The length is generally determined by your car model and can often be reused. If the new car model has a similar roof width to your old car, or is narrower, you may still be able to use the existing rails, provided you don't mind the overlap. The second factor is the fixtures; you have less flexibility here. In some instances, this is the only component you'll need to replace to fit the racks to your new car. This could set you back around R1500. The Pro Ride bike holder is compatible regardless of the chosen rails and mounting parts.

From your message, it seems that you've sold it. The ability to finance a new roof rack will depend on several factors. Some car brands offer rebranded roof racks as an additional accessory, which means you could potentially finance it along with your car.

If feasible, an additional R11,000 financed over the average period wouldn't significantly increase your monthly instalment. If you can afford it, I would recommend purchasing the racks from Thule.

    Hope that helps.

    Such wisdom!

  4. Financial gurus, advice.

When swapping from one car to the other, after selling the roof racks. Do you use the money, top up the 3/4K and get a new set; or do you add it to the finance of the new car.

Reason i ask is aren’t you then taking 11k worth equipment at 8% credit on residual (if applicable)?

Or just pay for the new set with credit card (ideally not)  or dig into them savings.

  5. As I went through the article, I realized that Belgium is a place of peace. I’m trying to visualize this.

This p*** is riding his bike, Ans the cones round the corner at the cradle, and he knees a kid out the way. In full view of his parent. There is no way he leaves that scene without that bike around his neck. The fact that he could walk away, and even sue, is a miracle for me.

I am happy, and more importantly the wife who is more fiscally conservative than me is fully on board after testing a few other cars and looking around for a while.

You’re lucky, I had to do a presentation to Treasury, The Reserve Bank, Standing Comittee on finance and meet an IMF team for an upgrade 🤣

The retail is R439K ex. on the road fees, we walking out at R406K on the road....they have "excess stock" to be cleared, so a limited offer.

This particular model was released in SA Nov/Dec 2021, with some upgrades done for the 2023 model years.....so happy to make a move on this one.

Just need to take a day or two off to let the excitement settle so that a cool headed decision can be made.

Car meets all our needs, and is better at this discounted price vs the competition we have looked at.

I’m sure you’ve done the maths. And if you’re happy, go for it 😎

My son and I were on the Farmland loop about 8 k's in when 2 men with knives stepped into the trail, forced us to lie on the ground and proceeded to tied our hands and feet with shoelaces. They checked for trackers and cellphones before making off with the bikes. Made our way back to the parking area where Assie picked us up in his bakkie and drove around the area hoping to see them but no luck.

We were not injured in the process

This is horrible mate. Just happy you weren’t harmed

Back to the topic: Gotta love how manufacturers are raising the suspension of budget and mid-range models slightly, changing the bumpers and lights, cheapening some of the trim and slapping on a 20% premium because it's a "crossover".

    T-Roc instead of Golf

    T-Cross instead of Polo

Must be so satisfying in the boardroom!

    I battle with this.

So basically, people pay more, or less, for basically the same thing in different shape.

Or, is it the same as Shimano/Campagnolo/Sram?

A society that can't even protect its children at the cost of its ego. Truly tragic.

Plenty of sad stats out there about how many children are being killed by the new crop of huge cars. Saw one out in the wild today, parked outside a primary school no less. 1.5 metres into the road because it's too big for the sidewalk parking.

That finish area was a shambles!

What an effort from Remco. He came flying over the top. Hopefully the cut is superfluous and just stings a bit in the shower.

    He hit that lady hard

Was she a member of his team? Wonder who should watch out for who.
