  1. No issues with them. All claims from Disco side handled well. My advice though is to go through a broker. As far as the tracker goes, according to them, they will not use the info against you. I was skeptical in the beginning but it has definitely changed the way I drive. If I drive like a knob, I lose points and that means less cash back from my fuel spend (They also do rewards BTW... coffee, smoothies, parking vouchers etc. All you need is 100km event free and you get rewarded ) Better driving means less chances of accidents/incidents as well as fewer fines and less stress.
  2. I must be the luckiest guy on Discovery..... Had no issues linking devices (Even my old Edge 305 works a treat). My wife has a Forerunner 35 that auto syncs after every session. Bit more effort required with the 305... My cash back values are right and no issues with the paybacks. Health gear works 100%. No shoe booster or gym booster (Legacy Gym member). Insufficient points were allocated with the Bio at our fitness assessment but my broker sorted that out (They actually picked up the mistake and queried on our behalf) Had 3 claims using the Disco vehicle insurance. 1st one was shocking but that was the service providers fault. My broker sorted that out for me very quickly. Second one was an insurance write off and even though Disco don't do buy backs, my broker was able to arrange for me to get my baby back and it's back on the road (actually better than before the accident). Last one was a fender bender on my wife's car and that went without a hitch. Fuel cashback is being paid monthly. They paid out for a pair of lost sunnies a few months ago under unspecified all risks without a hitch. My cash refund on my life insurance based on vitality status and medical claims was paid out at the end of last five year cycle and that went towards my new motorcycle. In a nutshell, I have only had a few issues and all of those issue have been sorted out by my broker or one of his employees. There are a few hoops to jump through but nothing unrealistic. We are not the sportiest family around but with minimal effort we hit Gold every year without any problems. (Maintained Diamond for the last 5 years and about to hit it again in the next month or two) The Vitality Active Rewards are a [motivational] tool for us to get some points. It's not about the smoothies or coffees. My wife and I have roughly the same points targets so it's a bit of a competition to see who gets theirs (I'm getting my arse handed to me on a weekly basis.....) Are there cheaper options out there? Yes there are. With less hassle? Yes. Would I recommend them? Yes, but if you are going to do the vitality thing, you need to embrace it 100% and integrate all the products to gain maximum benefit. Oh and it's a LOT less hassle if you go through a broker..... TL;DR: Discovery is great. Plenty of benefits. Make it work for you. Do it through a broker and let them handle the problems.
  3. So online beans order was delivered. Placed an order with Terbodore. Service was great. Ordered on Monday and delivery arrived on Thursday along with a hand written postcard letting me know that life is better with Coffee (or something along those lines). So far I have finished a bag of Great Dane and am busy with a bag of This Is Africa. Still in the cupboard are a bag of Mocha Java and a bag of Uganda Organic. So far so good. I reckon this is the way to go.
  4. During our annual shutdown at work recently, there was some work done on our rail siding. Some rails replaced as well as some of the sleepers. A colleague of mine and I went and had a look at the stuff that was taken out and of the 12 sleepers that were replaced, we reckon we could re purpose these (the rest were in really bad shape) : Mine are the three on the left. Length wise we looking at between 3,8m to 4,2m and they are 250x120 except for one which is 250x200. The shorter one looks a bit dodge but I couldn't see that side as it was facing down. Hopefully the rot isn't too excessive and that bit will trim off. The others look ok but will only know once I start cutting. Found a sawmill up the road that will cut them. R50 per cut @ 2m x 250mm wide. Planning an outside table to seat 8 (2mx1,2m with two benches) Hopefully the wood inside is still good and usable... Sizes may change depending on the condition of the timber. otherwise it's going to be an epic bonfire! This is going to be a long term project as I still need to put up an awning to put the table under... Edit: These things are HEAVY!!!
  5. Any bike is an adventure bike... The adventure is in your mind http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_dJc23mtIq7w/SlXLD32_78I/AAAAAAAAFBc/9ZoYSx_tgy8/s1600/R1%2Bdirtbike.jpg http://rideexpeditions.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/T6.jpg http://www.eco-friendly-africa-travel.com/images/IMG_9935.jpg
  6. Read a lot of good things about the 500 as a short distance adventure bike.
  7. Using the standard hole version
  8. I am hoping to get the LC4 engine back this weekend or early next week. I just hope I can remember where all the bolts and plugs go Then I need to find some Zumas to do the paint....
  9. Funny how that is...
  10. As of late last year (if I recall...) Shell came on board as a fuel rewards partner. Vida have always been a rewards partner for the Active Rewards and just happen to be affiliated with Shell Select in the form of their Vida cafe's and Torrador coffee shops. Basically it makes it easier for me to redeem my Vitality Active rewards now as I don't need to travel out my way to get to a Vida or ask for permission to get into a gym I don't belong to to get my smoothie from Kuaui. I am now also able to get a coffee at M&B after Parkrun on a Saturday as there is one at Suncoast (We do the North Beach Run). I was planning to stop at the Shell on the way home and grab a coffee. There is also a Shell just down the road from work so I can pop out at lunch time and grab a cappuccino. Much better with more options. I lost interest in Active Rewards as I had to go out of my way and make a special trip to claim rewards. Now I can claim my rewards on my way to somewhere with minimal disruption.
  11. Coarse version. Been using it for years with no issues. Had sealng issues with the old AP but that was because the barrel was stuffed. The plastic had wrinkled. That's why I bought a new one. Would reccomend an Able. Less hassle than the paper filters IMO
  12. Just finished watching Dr Strange [emoji106]
  13. Going well thanks. All stripped except for front forks and wiring. Loom has been re-wrapped and tidied up. Blasted the swing arm this week. Carb's been cleaned. Radiators came off and had a flush and a coat of paint. Motor should be back soon then its paint and assemble.
  14. My wife is also a tea drinker. I have 2 cups of coffee a day so I like i enjoy them. Aeropress was doing that until the seal issue. I use the Able steel filter instead of the paper filters
  15. Not a fan of flavoured coffee myself. The only people that I have gottem beans from locally that have a roast date on is Columbo. Might just be worth the drive... will also give lineage a go. Truth is also an option. @V12 Will drop him a mail on Tuesday and see what he says
  16. Ineterstingly, the Cape Coloured connection apparently comes in when over Easter Weekend, fishing boats never went out. Fish used to be very cheap in days gone by and amongst the Cape Malays it was known that not even a stove was to be lit during that period so there would be enough fish pickled to last from Friday to Monday.
  17. The Jaguares play a dirt/ugly game of rugby. I can't see the Bulls game being pretty... Looking forward to the Lions/Stormers game, That should be a cracker!
  18. Thanks guys. I went browsing around and it seems that there are a few people offering subscription packages. Great idea that! Going to have a look and see whats available and get it delivered to my door
  19. I am battling with 2 things at the moment. 1. The f****ng seal on my Aeropress is shyte. From new I battled with it breaking the seal while pressing and hissing air. Lately it has started squirting hot coffee onto my hands and arms when it breaks the seal. I tried replacing the plastic plunger with my old one that has the stiffening ribs on it that help as "guides" but no luck. I have switched to my Moka pot until I can get a new plunger rubber and see if that helps... 2. Coffee beans.... I used to get quite consistent coffee from Columbo when they were in Gale street. Had a good relationship with some of the guys there. Could pop in for a bag or two of beans and have a chat and grab a coffee. Nice and friendly. Then they moved.... Getting there now is a bit of a mission so I started looking for another place to buy beans. Found Bean Green which was great for a few months and then their beans started to smell a bit funky and the smell transferred to the taste... I have decide to try and find a commercially available bean that I can get from somewhere convenient (Think Spar/Woolworths etc) Tried two variants from Woolworths. Busy with their Espresso bean at the moment but am finding it too bitter. Bought a bag of Organic beans as well so will try those next. Any other ideas? Happy around the R50-R70/250g. Online maybe?
  20. I watched Kings of Content last night. Finding quite a few gems on RedBullTV lately
  21. I am still a legacy member. I paid about R300 many years ago to join and my gym costs me R0 a month. Just need to maintain those 3 swipes a month.... Regarding the rewards program, we recently got my wife a Forerunner 35 as she does crossfit type training a few time s week and there were points going to waste... Installed Garmin Connect on her S7, linked the account with the Disco App and she does a manual sync after each recorded session as she like to check the data. No issues so far. Signed her up with the Vitality Rewards program as well which got me motivated to chase my target again. Now that Shell have come on board, it makes redeeming the rewards a bit easier as there is a garage up the road from both work and home. We'll be cashing in on those rewards after Parkrun on Saturdays
  22. Friend of mine had drama with his oil filter. They did a Lesotho ride and a stone somehow managed to get in behind the bash plate and chaffed a hole in the filter housing resulting in the bike losing oil. Was some slow tech riding and they only realized after the oil was all gone. Managed to get back to the border and the bike was trailered back and new filter fitted with new oil. All seemed fine after that. Guess what I found when I dropped my bash plate (Got a Hyde fitted instead of the ali KTM one)? A stone..... so will be checking that regularly! Just for interest sake apparently a Nissan 350Z oil filter will fit in case of emergency Was the water pump seal a preventative repair? Been reading a lot on the 640 LC4 thread on Adventure rider and that comes up a lot. LOADS of info available there
  23. Absoluteyly! No doubt about it. I have already found a few things that I am not overly happy about. (Could be my OCD coming through...) Need to drop a few Mandelas on bolts for one. KTM use a specific type of bolt and I want them all to be OEM bolts. A normal M6 bolt or caphead will do the job perfectly well but it isn't a KTM bolt... On the list of things to do are the rear wheel bearings are in need of replacement as well. Finished build a small blasting cabinet this weekend so want to glass blast the swing arm and a few other bits as well as strip the wheels, get the rims anodized black and relace them to freshly painted hubs. The luggage racks will get a coat of paint as well as the rear sets and the sub frame. Exhaust will get polished and the radiators are coming off to be flushed and repainted. Plastics are going to get painted and new set of decals are on order. Wiring loon needs to be check for chafing and all connectors will be split and checked (One thing KTM are not renowned for was the wiring on the 640!) Carb strip and clean and then it all has to go back together again... Will post a pic when it's done Good luck with your search for a 640 man. They are unfortunately becoming increasingly difficult to find. Guys that have them realise that they are still a good bike (Although they can have their moments ) Over on Wilddogs and Adventure Rider they have a cult type following and I think that they will increase in value as time goes by. I reckon that they could be classified as one of the cult adventure bikes. Not too much choice currently in the 650 adventure class unfortunately. Friend of mine has one and he has been looking at getting a new bike for a while. He has ridden a few over the last few years trying to find a replacement and his words were "They all go alright but I keep coming back to the 640. I don't think I am going to find a bike that will replace it"
  24. I am headed down the same road... Basically this is what it looked like when I got it (It has a few scratches and stuff. Previous owner put it down on the road into Zingela and left a few scars): Picture was taken at the view site overlooking Inanda Dam. And this is what it looks like now.....: Lost the clutch on that ride and suspected a bearing failure under the clutch slave which was confirmed when we took the slave off. So motor is out and off to a mechanic that knows his way around the LC4 to change that bearing and a few others while the engine is open. While I wait for the engine to come back, the plane is to sort out the cosmetics and have a look at everything else (Swing arm bearings, wheel bearings, wiring loom etc as well as do a bit of bead blasting and beautifying) I was supposed to ride it a bit first and enjoy it before the big tear down but things don't always go according to plan!
  25. You have good taste When my Father passed away, my Mom gave me his Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch edition) It was originally purchased in the early 70's while on business in Switzerland and worn as a daily watch for the better part of 40 years. During that time it took it's fair share of abuse as he was a tradesman and an avid vintage car and motorcycle restorer in his spare time. It sat in the safe for a few years (Wouldn't keep time and would stop working) until my 40th came around. People asked me what I wanted and I said I would like it serviced so that I could wear it again. I sent it in for a service with Beverly Jewellers Pavillion who sent it to JHB for a service. The bad news was that the mechanism was beyond service/repair and they recommended replacement. Figured while they were replacing the mechanism they might as well replace the strap (worn), glass (scratched), bezel (Scratched) and face (the luminescent markers had stopped glowing). Ended up getting it completely refurbished and it came back as new. Very happy with the result and it is now my "Smart Watch". It may not be the original watch that my Dad bought (technically speaking) but it still has sentimental value and is a restart of a legacy that will be handed to my eldest son when I die for him to hand to his eldest etc.
