  1. I've been thinking about doing a custom order of plain bottles from Specialized. Landed price of between R150 - 200. If there are enough people interested?
  2. Make the illegal route a segment and then just keep an eye on the leaderboard.
  3. Interesting perspective... That’s it… we’re Bosch exclusive. - YouTube Seems be the the motor manufacture that we see the least of in SA.
  4. Just be careful as it is handed over to SAPO when entering SA and then you just have to cross your fingers it’ll get to you. If you can find a reliable forwarding agent to get it all the way here via a reliable courier, that’s first price. Plus you can bring things in that are geoblocked.
  5. I've done something similar with a 12v lead acid. Just add one of these for the ONT... (or something similar) BMT DC/DC BUCK MODULE 0.8-20V 2A - Communica [Part No: BMT DC/DC BUCK MODULE 0.8-20V 2A] and unless your ONT has a 'different to normal dc jack' one of these should work... CCTV ADPT PLUG MP121 - Communica [Part No: CCTV ADPT PLUG MP121]
  6. Not sure if it has been discussed here before but it there any opinion about aluminum vs steel chain ring on longevity of the chain and cassette?
  7. There are some interesting Anti Stalker feature that could help thieves get notification of Air Tag on stolen objects. Apple Air Tags vs. Thieves - YouTube
  8. What was the Amazon buying experience like?
  9. Are you using the 18560's or a different cell? Do you need a BMS system for battery packs for lights?

    Same here.
  12. It cool to finally see the some of the alternative networks products coming to market. This device is using the Sigfox network. Great as a panic button but don't think it would last long as a tracking device. The GPS chip tend to use a lot more battery power. "2, 50, 100 or 140 frames per day" Would be interesting to see that the manufacturer would say about the 100 frames / day battery life.
  13. Would it be possible that they strung wire or something across the road and lifted up at the last moment?
  14. Sorry to hear. I assume maybe here... https://goo.gl/maps/G8fJfFyFvapy2CFZ8
  15. It would be nice to have some redundancy from a phone. If you get mugged and your phone is taken off you at least you will still have the ability to raise an alarm. Also if the device has a dual purpose of asset tracking having to be linked to a phone would make it useless. If someone want to track themselves with a phone there are already a lot of options available.
  16. I've updated my first post with summaries. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/186251-tracking-personal-safety-alarm-devices/?p=3686813 I think the three important metrics are going to be battery life, phone independence and resolution. None of which current examples excel at all of them. Will do some more digging to see what products are available. Please keep posting links if you are aware of any other products.
  17. The Namola Panic Tracker system looks good but it's a sim card based system with a GPS. This ends up being very power intensive. The newer IoT networks are much more power efficient and futureproof. I'll start a summary on the first page to keep track of all the different solutions. Please can you sub to this topic if interested.
  18. This look like the most similar product idea but at R200 it's similar to inReach.
  19. Think the BLE is great but needs to be paired with phone. I think the simplicity of having a device that can work just on it's own has a great advantage. Saying that, if the rumored Apple tracking product that will take on Tile is true, it'll be very interesting. The shear volume of Iphone out there will make for a strong product offering.
  20. Out of interest what gateway are you using? inReach is a great product but at R250/month + about R10 and hour to track you it would add up pretty fast.
  21. Was hoping to try push this as a Hub community project, so just try to cover cost. Seen how many of the neighborhood watches / civic associations assist in getting LPR (Licence Plate Recognition) systems up and running this would hopefully be something similar Basic idea, as some have already mentioned, to using one of the LPWANs (Low Power Wide Area Network) as the starting point. So either LoraWAN, Sigfox or NB-IoT. I think the advantage of LoraWAN is the ability of the community to control the network, but that also might be the biggest disadvantage. Sigfox coverage already up, (https://www.sigfox.com/en/coverage) but geolocation tech still not at the level LoraWAN is. And NB-IoT means relying on the Cell companies. The key differentiation to this I would assume here is battery life. Something you can fit/carry and not worry about for a year or so. Think something like a gate remote. If anyone is using a similar device please link to compare.
  22. Trying to find out if this is worth pursuing. Who would be interested in a tracking and personal alarm device that could work independent of cell phone and have about a years worth of battery life. Small enough to stick under your saddle or drop into your seat tube. Resolutions of about 1 location point every 10min and alarm message sent in real time. Obviously to have while riding but other application would be possible. I would be like to be able to give my nanny such a device to carry when out of the house, etc. Any feedback would be interesting? 23. Glad you’re ok. Out of interest what time did it happen?
  24. Would it be possible to have a persistent search box in the classifieds. Once you have clicked into an add it is removed. If you are in the forum section the search icon remains next to the bell. Maybe site wide?
  25. Any recommendations for an amp for a desktop setup. Just need to power 5" speaker. Nothing amazing just need to be good. Also assume a USB DAC is a good idea?
