  1. The Namola Panic Tracker system looks good but it's a sim card based system with a GPS. This ends up being very power intensive. The newer IoT networks are much more power efficient and futureproof. I'll start a summary on the first page to keep track of all the different solutions. Please can you sub to this topic if interested.
  2. This look like the most similar product idea but at R200 it's similar to inReach.
  3. Think the BLE is great but needs to be paired with phone. I think the simplicity of having a device that can work just on it's own has a great advantage. Saying that, if the rumored Apple tracking product that will take on Tile is true, it'll be very interesting. The shear volume of Iphone out there will make for a strong product offering.
  4. Out of interest what gateway are you using? inReach is a great product but at R250/month + about R10 and hour to track you it would add up pretty fast.
  5. Was hoping to try push this as a Hub community project, so just try to cover cost. Seen how many of the neighborhood watches / civic associations assist in getting LPR (Licence Plate Recognition) systems up and running this would hopefully be something similar Basic idea, as some have already mentioned, to using one of the LPWANs (Low Power Wide Area Network) as the starting point. So either LoraWAN, Sigfox or NB-IoT. I think the advantage of LoraWAN is the ability of the community to control the network, but that also might be the biggest disadvantage. Sigfox coverage already up, (https://www.sigfox.com/en/coverage) but geolocation tech still not at the level LoraWAN is. And NB-IoT means relying on the Cell companies. The key differentiation to this I would assume here is battery life. Something you can fit/carry and not worry about for a year or so. Think something like a gate remote. If anyone is using a similar device please link to compare.
  6. Trying to find out if this is worth pursuing. Who would be interested in a tracking and personal alarm device that could work independent of cell phone and have about a years worth of battery life. Small enough to stick under your saddle or drop into your seat tube. Resolutions of about 1 location point every 10min and alarm message sent in real time. Obviously to have while riding but other application would be possible. I would be like to be able to give my nanny such a device to carry when out of the house, etc. Any feedback would be interesting? 7. Glad you’re ok. Out of interest what time did it happen?
  8. Apparently "SRAM used a fixed Non drive End bearing to avoid a Shimano patent infringement" for GXP. Not a great system either.
  9. Are these not just examples of a poorly implemented press fit system? Maybe the argument should be that the tolerances and best practices for a proper press fit system are out of reach of a lot of frame manufacturers and that threaded BB's hide the problems better. Also what is more important to you: quiet, maintenance free use or the lowest possible friction losses? Good example is the Hellbender Neo bottom bracket. It has soild oil bearings. Great for longevity but at the cost of some watts. #marginalgains I understand that press fit is a better system but for the above reasons would rather have a threaded bb frame. Side rant: BB30 systems you are mating the bearings steel inner race to aluminum axle, so if there are any problems, the axle is going to get chewed up. Shimano/BSA systems have a "composite" bushing between the bearing and axle.

  11. If you want BB geek content... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH9263dSaOHFe25dkyGAu3Q Check out his bb's here... https://www.hambini.com/ Press fit seems to be technically the best solution but generally implemented poorly in the bicycles industry.
  12. Would it be possible to have a persistent search box in the classifieds. Once you have clicked into an add it is removed. If you are in the forum section the search icon remains next to the bell. Maybe site wide?
  13. Any recommendations for an amp for a desktop setup. Just need to power 5" speaker. Nothing amazing just need to be good. Also assume a USB DAC is a good idea?
  14. I know this will be subjective but what would have been the idea bike for this? Gravel, HT or Full Sus?
  15. Any opinion on this vs the Cederberg 100 Miler? Would like to attempt this distance but find the easiest one first. Cederberg is more elevation but the profile looks slightly better. Looks like you get a "free" ride from about 120km? Amarider looks like you climb from 80ish to 150ish. Seem like it would be more difficult.
  16. Watched a guy walk into our shoot (3F) with a 6something number. Mashals are so busy making sure that we had our chips and boards they were not actually checking numbers. Think Big Wout managed that. Racetec provisionally seem to calculate your group start time to you actual finish time and ignores the split timing. His Racetec tracking show something much slower.
  17. I've just upgraded my phone to Android 9/Pie. Now I can't connect via Bluetooth. Anyone else experienced the same?
  18. Send some photos to this guy, see if he'll comment. https://www.instagram.com/luescher_teknik/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY9JUMYI54lLOHpb_zbIedQ/featured
  19. Although an inconvenience of waisting my time I wasn't taking about the time since I've joined the que but from when i give them my chip until i get my race pack. I'm not the smartest cookie but do understand that there are more than one printer. At my estimate there are about 35 'lanes'. So assume that many printers. I'll check on my way out.
  20. I'm been waiting almost 1.5 hours in the que. So might not be too sharp but please share the fatal flaws, it'll give me something to do.
  21. I can't see this problem being fixed if you come tomorrow or Saturday. It's a slow process. I'll time exactly how long it takes to get my entry and then multiply that by 35k and see if there is enough time in the next 2 days.
  22. This is going to be very painful. Apparently the servers went down, but back up now. Still super slow to get a number.
  23. Watch from 25min or -12min. I think it's a really sustainable approach to dealing with the prospect of protests. edit: can't get the video to link to FB. Go to the CTCT facebook page and watch the video from today from the above times.
  24. Putting together birch ply drawer boxes. 12mm front and back. 9mm side and bottom. Hopefully post pictures when it's completed.
