  1. I still have a Specz epic with xtr dual control levers and v brakes if you feel the need to build yourself an “Oldtimer”
  2. Yes….The first few XC and XM races I did on a rigid Marin equipped with those … what a pain the the ass to adjust, nearly as bad as v brakes. The Marin was high end and came with grip shift 😁
  3. I'll take the XCO bike with dual suspension Front 120mm / Rear 100mm is more than enough for me. If I need more than the above then I'm riding on luck / out of my skill set and its time to to take a reality check (throttle back a bit) 😁
  4. Fixed My line of thinking as well
  5. Strava, cycling news …… it doesn’t matter which one. Strava still provides a free service which allows users to track, share, edit, socialize etc
  6. How does changing to a paywall model lower their costs, genuine question from a tight assed free loader? And it took them 28 years to figure this out..... nah i don't buy that This yes - More profit, but only if they get enough subscribers
  7. Dinna worri its not a fight... Interesting that you mention STAB's video footage and quality content, how much do you pay for this? quick check revealed $72 per year I subscribe to MotoGP which costs 106 Euro for the year which includes live coverage of every practise session, qualifying and race. Money well spent imo. One could argue that cyclingnews subscription is a bit overpriced at 59 Euro just to read a few post race articles and race results Anyway, had my say and time will tell 🥰
  8. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to question this kind of change after 28 years, Redbull still have another 18 years to go if they follow Future PLC’s model of evolution 😁 No one is asking cyclingnews to use any tools or anything like that, CN are actually the ones doing the asking…. CN have provided an internet based news platform free of charge for 25+ years. I’d hazard a guess that the original intention was to do just this this and not through subscribers, but then the ownership has changed a few times since then. If times have changed so much that they now need a paywall, well I suppose that’s their right and gamble to take. My gut feel is that they will loose a lot of readers (hits) and eventually become just another cycling website, instead of in their current words “ world's leader in English-language coverage of professional cycling “
  9. When i read articles on cyclingnews mostly from my iPad mini, 1/3 to 1/2 the screen is adverts. While it’s annoying, I understand they (need to ) generate some income from adverts and will live with these on any website I visit, but being forced to subscribe is going to far imo. Quote from cyclingnews: “We are supported by our audience. When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission” If every website or news site I visit on a regular basis decided to go the subscriber route, then the total cost would not be practical. Following this thread the majority of responders so far indicate they would not subscribe, assuming the global response would follow the same trend, I wonder if cyclingnews/ future group have a long term future should they continue down this road? I’d be interested to know if the adverts are still as annoying if you subscribe…… I’ll wager they are
  10. RANT ON: As a long term cyclingnews reader I’m somewhat dismayed and disappointed that they (cycling news are part of Future group) are now pushing readers to pay (subscribe) to read news articles, in particular race news. $79 per year or $7.99 per month, *Read 5 free articles per month without a subscription, † after your trial you will be billed £4.99 $7.99 €5.99 per month, cancel anytime. Or sign up for one year for just £49 $79 €59 Interested to know how many cyclingnews readers from the bikehub will be prepared to take up this “offer” Count me out
  11. Louis’s performances still remain a bit of a mystery, a rider at that level surely has coaches and knows what kind of training to do and yet…… Maybe that is as good as it gets, he is riding at his limit and simply cannot go any faster. Anyways, well done Louis 🤘
  12. Sadly he seems to be one of those who has suffered long term effects of the covid shite gogga
  13. Heart - Phil Gilbert Brain - Mathieu vd Poel
  14. IPhone 12 and Windows 10 Thanks for the feedback Its frustrating, some photos are ok and others skew
  15. Asking for some help here, lately most of my photos come out 90 degrees from the correct orientation like the one below, how do I stop this from happening? The photo is in the correct orientation in the folder from where i upload it. Apple iPhone pictures downloaded to a Windows picture folder on my PC, then uploaded to the hub
  16. I know nothing can bring Nino back and accidents can happen, but in the case of a hit n run….I really hope justice is served to the maximum +
  17. Ja their website says they developed only a neutral shoe, but reading between the lines there could be stability options in the future "Neutral: The vast majority of South African runners purchase a Neutral running shoe, it made sense for us to start to build a product on a neutral platform"
  18. Road a local hill TT climb today 4.8 km, 330 m HD View from the top This is how steep it felt 🙂 Actually, damn photo keeps coming out skew
  19. Sadly these are the reasons XCO race entries are so low, people on average don’t like to suffer the way you do in xco., and then the technical stuff also puts them off. I did my first xco race at rockhoppers honeydew quarry and I was absolutely broken, even tho I was triathlon fit (age group Transvaal provincial colors fit)., could not believe that a race could be so hard…. and I’ve done all sorts of racing. We were mostly riding fully rigid bikes (no suspension front or back) and rim brakes in those days, making it even harder…. But it was the most fun I have ever had racing / riding a bicycle, I’m not exactly a skilled technical rider and have carried my bike on many technical sections, but overcoming those challenges adds to the fun…
  20. I’ve never understood the fascination with XCM marathon racing…. Give me a good old XCO lap course with 1-2 hrs flat out racing with some technical stuff every lap to “look forward to” and then back home again…. instead of endless jeep track for hours on end….
  21. Oh my lawd this reminded me of the many times I marshalled races at an intersection on the way to our local NGK on a Sunday, the swearing and abuse we received from the church goers…..
  22. Time for a JB masterclass, he covered this topic pretty well in the past, should have been pinned in the tech forum…. Maybe it was 🤨
  23. No worries Dad, you’ve got through the hardest part (training for the damn thing) Now it’s just 1 foot in front of the other and enjoy the view along the way, wave, smile and enjoy 👍 Good luck to all
  24. Did I mention I also have treadmill for running on those dark icy winter nights…. 😄 but it’s not a smart treadmill, no online compatibility. For the OP’s original question, I have a powerbeam (Cyclops / Saris) A frame type IDT which I use to cycle on the Rouvy platform, the Powerbeam has been super reliable and I have been using it for at least 10 years without any hassles.
