  1. One thing to consider.... whichever system you choose the chances are you will stick with it and its software for the rest of your life. This means all your training history will be stored in whichever system software you choose. If 10 years down the line you want to change systems, then your training history wont follow to the new system. Yes apps like strava help to negate this issue. Somewhere around 19voetsak I started using a Polar watch for heart rate measurement while running long before I started cycling, and before garmin made similar watches. Still using polar today and quite happy with them. (M460 cycling computer and Grit X Pro wrist watch) I have a garmin watch for golf because polar do not do golf courses and the required info needed for playing golf. No doubt garmin are simply huge in the GPS product market. Good luck
  2. He's turning Chinese, he's turning Chinese I really thinks so... Japan China.... close 😁
  3. This is what happened to me, I got another shock back not my original new one, sadly this is how many OEM companies work with repairs under warranty, you get an "exchange unit" and not your original one. One reason for this is that its a quicker turn around to provide an exchange unit, instead of waiting for your original one to be repaired. Touch wood, but the unit I got back in 2019 is still working fine, no squish squish. I don't bother with tracking the time between services,, as you say it comes up very quickly, even if you ride occasionally like i do
  4. A word of warning wrt lemon juice, apparently it is acidic and frequent consumption could damage the enamel on your teeth. Heard this somewhere years ago, not sure if its any worse than energy drinks or soft drinks
  5. Even longer if you really take it easy at about 60% effort, I’ve not used energy drinks for years only water (got surplus fat to burn) Sometimes I add some fresh lemon slices or pure lemon juice to the water for flavor. Energy drinks are a like vitamins and supplements, very well marketed.
  6. Nice try……Es ist verboten: Chit chat General off-topic discussions; excluding topics relating to current affairs, religion, and politics
  7. Fat tires wont improve my comfort, at least half of my rides were done on a dual susser mtb. My ass is not built for comfort 😁
  8. Talking about "Bring Back the.... " I wish Admin would bring back allow or create some form of thread where we can discuss any non cycling related topics For example, CV19, Politics etc.... Bikehub IMHO is poorer for the lack of diversity. As a long time hubber since 2005 and an expat who will never use the classifieds, this was the primary reason i did not renew my bikehub plus membership. Jaaa i know, poeping against thunder
  9. Ja nee, one thing age (experience) has taught me... I'm not suited (don't enjoy) ultra long rides in one day. Having done a few + 200 km training rides all on a Tri bike with TT bars... the longest and quickest being 225 km in 6.5 hrs with 1 other guy also on a tri bike. It just simply is not comfortable at the interface areas (bum, hands, elbows and shoulders), sometimes a saddle sore develops afterwards = not worth it. Now i would rather do quality over ultra endurance. ANYWAY, RAPHA500 is a 8 day challenge, finished and klaar, doing it in less than 8 days is being sommer windgat 😁 👍
  10. Congrats and good luck with the new career 👍
  11. My wife orders all her running shoes like that, usually from online running shops in Germany and she has not had any problems. Me... I wont take the chance unless its the exact same model / size that I have already tested and worn.
  12. In general the competition for team places is very high with hundreds, if not thousands of hopefuls competing for a handful of team places. Unfortunately it favors riders from countries that are local and not hindered by visa / work permit / residence issues. And then if you don't have a regular salary in real money (Euro), life becomes very difficult in Euroland. Not saying this is the case with Willie, but I would not be surprised if it did not contribute to the issue.
  13. Where you working now, still in aviation? sorri if I missed this earlier
  14. learnt something new, Interestingly those prop blades are a combination of wood and carbon fiber with nickel cobalt leading edges….. https://www.mt-propeller.com/en/entw/pro_blades.htm Key differences vs. structural composite blades Aerospace grade carbon fiber combined with highly compressed beech/spruce wood core has a higher strength than aerospace aluminum with no corrosion and fatigue limit. The MT-blade has no spar for the load carrying core. By this, FOD on leading edge or trailing edge as well as the blade mid area can not create a structural damage requiring the replacement of a blade. MT-Propeller natural composite blades are certified for unlimited life and can be repaired in the field or at 60+ overhaul shops worldwide.
  15. The doubler on the fuselage is an ice shield to protect the fuselage from ice that gets thrown off the prop blades, also works for small debris like stones that could also be kicked up by the prop during ground operation. That’s also why there is no cabin window directly in line with the prop…. Luckily it was a composite blade, can you imagine if it was an aluminum blade…..
  16. Wow…. So if I understand correctly a substantial piece of blade actually penetrated the cabin? That must have been incredibly scary and very fortunate that no one was hurt. The vibration from the rotating propeller must have been quite serious during the time it took the crew to shut down the engine.
  17. 14, 13 or 12 kg there is not much difference How many water bottles, sealant in the tyres, spare parts / tools or extra cm around the waist do you carry? Sometimes these threads are so funnnnny 🤣
  18. The problem is..... sometimes "Ian" is a person with serious influence Just this morning i read this utter twaddle from the Pope himself: Pope Francis says choosing pets over kids is selfish Pope Francis has suggested people who choose to have pets over children are acting selfishly. The Pope's comments came as he was discussing parenthood during a general audience at the Vatican in Rome. "Today ... we see a form of selfishness," he told the audience. "We see that some people do not want to have a child. "Sometimes they have one, and that's it, but they have dogs and cats that take the place of children. "This may make people laugh, but it is a reality." The practice "is a denial of fatherhood and motherhood and diminishes us, takes away our humanity", he added. 19. Im unfamiliar with this concept of someone else other than the owner washing bikes at a bike park, the few I’ve been to in euro land they provide hoses but you have to DIY Is this bike wash for free or a seperate service you pay for? Good on the OP for posting this, a reminder to never let your precious property out of your sight 🤟
  20. EDIT: Forgot to include Golf.... 😁
  21. Run, ride (road indoor and road / mtb outdoor), walk (recovery or easy days) and occasional circuit at the gym. I'm to lazy to look for the actual % of each
  22. Lol, i challenge you to play play on the IDT (indoor torture) for a few hours, riding outside for real is a pleasure and easier.
  23. Today my blue sky at least matches that in the fairest Cape, and that's no bull...
  24. Thanks to mecheng89 for starting the thread and all who participated, all providing motivation for myself to actually get out do the miles. Due to work commitments my longest ride this year was only 63 km and that was back in February, needless to say i broke that record this week. Today was a fittingly beautiful day for riding I dont plan to do anymore riding for the rest of the year, and thats no bull
