  1. I'm 32 years old now. When I ride I don't show my hr data on my screens. I find when I look at my hr it holds me back. So now I just ride, and they analyse the data afterwards.
  2. I started on LCHF just over 2 years ago. For breakfast I have a bulletproof coffee and then have a high fat paste with macadamia nut butter, coca powder, unflavoured and unsweetened whey, coconut flour, mct oil and a teaspoon of honey. This keeps me going and full until after lunch time. I eat this before I ride as well. My max hr is 190bpm. At Sabie Classic this year my ave hr to wp2 just over the top of the mamba switchbacks was 183bpm. Then total for race was 178 for 4h40. So that is 93% ave hr for over 4 hours. I know a lot of people here say this diet is fine for LSD. But for me I have no issues going anaerobic and holding it there. At Sabie I also ran out of water going up the Mamba's and had severe desert mouth for about 30 min before the next water point. Was far away from cramping as well and this wasn't an issue.
  3. Rather take your bike in if something is wrong with it, than spend R1500 per bike.
  4. I can't wait for this. Looking even more forward to the race now.
  5. Let us know how the bike handles. Grip, cornering etc?
  6. I am in the process of converting my zula. I broke my fork last week, so hoping to put a fox 120mm on it. I'm a little worried about the tire hitting the crown, but all the users on mtbr dont seem to have any issues, so i will go ahead. The only problem is the wheels. I want the new am classics all mountains, but they are not out yet, so will wait until Jan if I have to, no rush right now.
  7. Nice, what wheels are you getting?
  8. Thanks guys. Nope, the fork is about 5 years old or so, so not under warranty anymore. I will put in a claim though, and see what they say. I find the SID too much hassle to get it dialed in with the dual air, and it never had the plush feel that my brothers Fox has. I have heard the new Reba and Revalation are much better. So I will I will just shop around and see what deal I can get.
  9. So I broke the arch of my RS Sid on the weekend at Van Gaalens on that awesome rocky downhill section at the halfway mark. Going over those rocks, and then heard a nice clunck noise. Stop to look and find out the fork arch is broken clean in half. Luckyily I didn't fall off when it happened. Two questions: Does insurance cover accidental breakages? Do I go with a Reba or Fox 32FIT. I want something stiffer, Ive never liked the SID, and 120mm (on a Morewood Zula).
  10. Will a tapered steerer make a noticable difference in the same way a TA supposedly does/does not?
  11. Everybody is jealous of Lance because he doped and he won. They also doped but didnt win. Doesnt make him more of cheater than anybody else.
  12. How far is the route tomorrow? The 70km route map says it is only 60.8km. Can anyone confirm the actual distance?
  13. I thought it was pretty cool weather. When I got into my car at 1pm it was 28C. Imagine if we had of ridden last weekend in the heatwave.
  14. Epic pro doesnt taste horrible at all anymore. I'm not sure when they changed the flavour, its really improved and I actually enjoy it now (but used to hate it when it first came out). I am keen to try the Cadence Marathon though. Havent seen it on the shelf yet though.
  15. My best order time, I placed the order on a Sunday night, and it was delivered to my door on the Friday morning (this was about 4 years ago though). My worst order time was about 3 weeks, with the delay at SAPO for 2 weeks. I only use the normal free delivery method. These are the only 2 times I have bought from them.
  16. That is exactly what I believed. Until I started training for it. I thought I was going to suffer like no other, and I hate riding disctric road with a passion (but loved every second of Joberg2c, best experience of my life and I recommend it to any cyclist). My training was on aveage 6 - 8 hours a week, starting in Feb (I always take December off, and I was moving house in Jan). Consisted on 3 x 45 min spinning classes a week, and weekend rides on Sat and Sun of 2 - 3 hours. Did the odd weekend race as well. My maximum training peak was 10 hours over the Easter weekend (but I did have a good base). In the end I comfortably finished mid field.
  17. I did Sani2c and Joberg2c this year. Didnt think I would ever give up my Sani entry, but I will only be doing Joberg2c next year. The Sani section is just sooo much better during Joberg2c, as there are far less people. Joberg2c was only 4 days of work leave this year, and I think 5 for next. But can understand if you have family commitments, then 9 days is a lot.
  18. In my opinion you are doing enough. I did 6 - 8 hours training a week for joberg2c starting 3 months before was it was enough to ride without suffering. My long weekend rides were 2 - 3 hours and the occasional long race of 5 - 6 hours (Sabie and Barberton). But I did have a base, so although my hours were low, I was doing a lot more interval training and many hill repeats. Well done on loosing 6kgs so far! Keep it up! If you are eating healthily and "enough" and not feeling tired and drained, but still loosing weight then keep going and try loose more even before the race.
  19. More pics, oh my, such an awesome looking bike http://www.bikerumor.com/2012/08/07/morewood-sukuma-split-pivot-trail-bike-finally-gets-real/
  20. Over dosing on paracetomol can kill you. There are side effects on every product you can buy over the counter at the pharamacy, that all state many crazy things that could happen to you, and will if you take too much of it. The articles listed above don't say how much the guys took. You could take 10 pando's, have kidney failure and die, but that doesn't stop you from taking paracetomol.
  21. Any reason why its not a good idea? If you are tested it makes sense, but for the average joe why not? The stimulant didnt turn him into a winner, hard work and dedication did. (I'm not defending him, he got busted, end of story) I take it in the mornings before I ride, so it wakes me up and I'm not still asleep and mentally tired for my first hour of riding. Ps, its out of your system in less than 24 hours, so you could go wild everyday of the week, and pass tests on weekends for race day if thats what you want.
  22. Awesome background dancers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPnM0Rxcl44
  23. Did it 2 years ago. So amazing! Missed it last year, and again this year. Man this is such an awesome race. I need my Mankele fix soon!
  24. If worried about calliper alignment. Loosen the calliper, spin the wheel real fast. Grab the brake level and dont let it go. While still holding onto the brake lever, retighten the calliper. You can now let go of the brakes once the calliper is tightened. But as said above, its time to change them anyway, so it doesnt matter how they look.
  25. Since when are there arch rims for 650b? I'm sure stans only have the crest and flows.
