  1. I see the latest coolest thing to do on the HUB is to start a new thread on 32GI. So would everybody please comment below as to their experience with this AMAZING (claimed) product. Even if you haven't used it yet just post something because I want MY thread to be the coolest. I have never actually used 32GI and I am not commenting on the product so please don't sue me.
  2. They are quite expensive, I recently had to replace one and I was shocked at the price. I "inherited" a full set from my dad(inherited in qoutes cause he's still alive, the spanners just aren't his anymore ). He's to old to use them anyway.
  3. If you break a gedore I'll buy you a new one. I've only used Gedore on my pedals, never needed a pedal spanner.
  4. Yip, wish I had your legs. Thats the only thing I could find
  5. Unintentional upshifting is a fairly common complaint, particularly with strong riders who use fairly flexible frames. The typical symptom is that the bike shifts up to the next smaller rear sprocket when you stand and pedal hard. The first thing most people check is the shift lever, and back in the days of friction shift levers that required periodic re-adjustment, this was often the cause. Most friction shift levers have a screw or wing nut to regulate the friction. If this screw becomes too loose, automatic upshifting will result. Sometimes, however, the problem is not due to insufficient friction, and tightening the lever won't cure it. With the advent of indexed shifting, the problem is much less prevalent than it used to be, but it can also occur with index systems. When it does, you don't even have a friction regulation screw to adjust. The usual cause of the problem, believe it or not, is the cable guide that the derailer cable uses to get around the bottom bracket. As you pedal the bike, the frame flexes from side to side. This causes the gear cable to get tighter and looser with every other pedal stroke. If the bottom-bracket cable guide has too much friction, it can act as a one-way clutch, pulling the cable down from the lever, but not allowing it to retract on the opposite pedal stroke. In many cases, greasing the cable guide is all that is required. In one particularly bad case, that of a large, strong racer with an old steel bike, I had to use more heroic measures. I installed a Sturmey-Archer pulley that clamped onto the bottom of the seat tube in place of the original cable guide. This eliminated the problem. Courtesy Mr Sheldon Brown

I definately recommend the Datadots, it's not going to protect you or prevent your bike being stolen but it will help you maybe getting it back. Datadots website

    Hi-Jack

One of the locals (NOT a criminal) told us about the bikes. Regarding the returning of the bikes to the owners, see above

Thats the problem, its difficult to connect a certain bike to a certain case document. Thats why it's important to register the serial number. The CPF (community police forum) are also encouraging people to install something they call "Datadots" on your household items. They cost like R400/kit but all the police stations in the country are supposedly equipped to scan them and then see who the owner is. I've installed it on my bike. As far as I know only 4-5 bikes where actually returned to the owners, the rest are probably rotting in some store or being ridden by some constables son.

Sorry about your bikes man, that really sucks. Interesting you mentioning "the wrong group of riders". I heard a story about four guys who showed up just as another guy and his girlfriend where being held at gunpoint for their bikes. The guys showed up quite unexpectantly and just literally rode into the would-be hi-jackers. Apparently at some speed. The 4 guys plus the other guy then proceeded to beat the crap out of them, took their gun and went to the nearest police station and reported it. When the cops got there both the hi-jackers where still there and they got arrested and sentenced to 15 years for armed robbery. Another story, I'm part of our community police forum thingy and we recently (about 2 months ago)recovered something like 18 stolen bikes all buried underneath shacks in a nearby field. Also 4 arrests, can't remember the sentence. I know, not the nicest way to transport the bikes, but what can you do? Just some good news regarding this, I'm sure there are more success stories, they just don't get told as much.
  14. I bet the wife loves that
  15. Nope, gotta work, it sucks, it's so close to home and I can't go! But good luck!
  16. Good luck, if it makes you feel any better, I went for a ride this afternoon for the first time in over a week. Work, work, work. But get well soon!
  17. Bad luck man, you doing the Beast of the East tomorrow?
  18. Just realised theres probably more metal in mine than in the parktools one. The first time I tested it that back piece of wood bent like a banana. Logically, the first solution that came to mind was to get a lighter bike but I ended up attaching that piece of square tubing you see in the pic. Now the thing weighs a ton but hey, it works. Hows the healing going guys?
  19. Not nearly as many as for the parktools one, have you ever been to Thabazimbi? They stripped a whole mountain to get to that metal ore stuff!!!
  20. Maybe I should edit and remove the price and tell him johan bornman built it!
  21. Sorry for the hijack, I'm just chuffed with my stand!! Park Tool : R900.00 Garage Tool: R102.95
  22. Ok, might be a stupid question but can't you just cancel the order from Omnico?
  23. Nothings hotter than a Zaskar B)
  24. Why not sell the one your buying now and keep the zaskar?
  25. Thanks, had a look at the website but I don't see any prices?
