  1. Sven, i wont waste much time on this- if you believe a "winefarm" is fully insured, then you are so completely and utterly misinformed it is frightening; how do you insure 20 year old vineyards... Assume you drink Tassies. "Peoples houses are insured" "firefighter are JUST doing their job" ..... Mmm yes.... Sure you will say the same thing when your house burns down, remember when the shoe changes feet. Ps: the forex income created by those handfull of Constantia winefarms far outweighs the income generated by "argus". Groot Constantia on its own sees over a 1000 foreign visitors a day... Pretty simple math quote name="Sven137" post="2565662" timestamp="1425530065"]Most homes and businesses are insured.. But to trivialise the argus is, sad the argus brings millions of randsI into the Cape economy.. So if the wine farm burnt to the ground the owners would get paid out by the insurers .. But the fallout from the cycle race disaster could take longer to recover from.. They could have added marine drive up to table view onto the route.. It can be closed with no real problems as they have koeberg Road and the N7 to service these suburbs
  2. Slowbee, great rant but.. What EXACTLY did you expect from them? Give us 1 idea. Canceling cannot happen- to much money invested and vested into it. Move the route.... To where exactly? Do you honesly think the city of cape town's main concern right now is to have a pow-wow with cycle tour organizers to organize new road closures and logistic while half of their city is under flames.... Seriously? Honestly mate, i dont dont know you or where you live, but I was in Constantia today to assist with colleagues in the wine industry who's farms and properties are engulfed in flames. Chapmans peak will probably be off limits for months if not a few years after these fires- so in all honesty, bitching and moaning about not being catered for is a bloody insult to over a thousand people fighting a national disaster to protect other peoples property and lives. You honestly do not need to respond to this, as I am not debating semantics or principles here; just plain bloody logic.
  3. No issue with your argument- one question was evans on the back wheel of an outcast? If so did they refuse to give way? Did he ask them to give way? If none of the three, then the outcast had no effect on him being behind them on the track, catch and pass them..... He was grasping at straws to exempt himself- there in lies the rub.
  4. I agree with you on many points, but he knew full well why he was doing it, he clearly states his reasoning, not a flat line half blurred moment of insanity. A calculated- i jump left and get to past 8 guys that would otherwise hold me up.,,, case closed. As for its mountain biking ffs.... Yes it is, for you and me; for them its their careers and livelihood- slight different scenario than a fun ride out with your mates! Thats why he is loosing respect, bitching about outcasts being there, if he so damn red hot how did they manage to be in front of him anyway, then sportmanship..... Did he actually once say "sorry I was wrong".
  5. You do the crime, you lose the time! Scott was in their full right to lodge, the situation has no similarity to Sausers "shortcut" Evans would have been stuck in traffic for ages on that single track. And what nonsense "outcasts aren't meant to be there"?? Why were you behind them then. Unlike for us, this us actually business for these guys, gaurentee you Scott is amped about their victory, and so are their sponsors.
  6. OP it could be that he has a very lightweight bicycle or his resting hart rate of 38 OR JUST BECAUSE you can throw any of those chaps in the front onto your local postmans bike and they will demolish 99.5 % of us.
  7. Hey guys anybody got a entry or three they werent goint to use for this? Seems the organizers cant be bothered to respond to anybodies emails or phone calls.
  8. Not just any gears, 1X11's.... Obviously they arent designed for riding down stairs!
  9. No weaker than your arguments. Any-old-how, good luck with all that Adios
  10. Using your logic, please explain how a car crossing a red robot is any different to you doing it on a bicycle. You state- you will only cross or ignore a red light when it is safe and not pose any risk to you or others.... Yet you state "cycling through red robots is simply not the same as running them in cars" . Well well if it is so safe and risk free for you, why would it not be for a motorist who can cross a intersection way faster than you, as it is 100% safe for you (in your opinion) Could it be that if / when they get it wrong, the result will be more dramatic than if you got it wrong? (Dont say yes, as it will mean you know it can go wrong, and admitting to putting others at risk through your disregard) oops Or as a lifetime cyclist commuter you are a better judge when it is safe or not? (Dont say yes, as 7 accidents is definitely more than most motors will have in a lifetime) oops Either way you are both breaking a law meant to minimize accidents but you want laws to differ as it suites your taste? very progressive of you.... I recall that being the gist of the "unjust laws" you refer to. Good luck arguing yourself out of your own logic or explaining how you causing a accident is more acceptable than a motorist. Ciao
  11. Drove on R44 today to work, at the Annandale traffic light, no less than 7 guys came past- cruising over the red light. Ironically enough in spitting distance from where two of our own were hit by a car this week (not a traffic light incident I gather) Reading through those comments everybody flew into this driver's recklessness and how little motorist feel for cycles. (Although none of these commentators actually witnessed what happened) My point is simple, not everyone will or need to agree with rules; but certain rules are there not to just protect you, but protect others as well. As stated by another; if your disregard (it is nothing other than disregard, whichever way you want to spin it) means you end up as a hood- ornament to a law abiding motorist hitting you; then your rebelion have fundamentally changed another persons life for good. The unfortuante part of your argument is it has to go both ways.... So a motorist standing at a red light can also "use his own judgement when its safe to go" hope its no one you know ending up in front of that car. Unjust laws is something we have all seen first hand, but this is not a nanny state law we are discussing here; red light turn right (it has a name) is not remotely the same thing as crossing over lanes, as for the UK study, how may male vs female cyclist are actually on the roads- statistics can be spun into any outcome you want it to be. Sorry mate, if I see you cruising over red lights i will give you a earfull, as i dont want to be the cyclist getting clipped by a motorist getting fed up with cyclest "our merde doesnt stink " attitude at traffic lights.

    Ride for Vissie

Hey guys, short notice. But for all MTB'ers who was thinking of riding tomorrow; 16 th March please consider taking a drive to Oak Valley for your cycle. If any of you have ever ridden there or a spectator you have Vissie to thank. One of the key guys who worked tirelessly to create and maintain the routes and fellow keen mountain biker Pieter visser (viticulturist at Oak valley) got diagnosed with very aggressive cancer in December. Although medical aid is covering a fair bit, there will still be gaps in his fight against this terrible disease. The farm has waivered entry / ride fees for tomorrow , meet at 8 & 8:30 black route ride and 9:15 family friendly rides will commence for a donation of R50 pp for Vissies war-chest. This initiative was organized by William from Williamsbikeshop. Happy riding.
  13. Tafakes, is that you Mac Maharaj????
  14. Only legal if it constitutes self defense, retribution is what we have here; not the same thing.
  15. Beng hit by a water sachet (if even true) deary me, how traumatic. Mob justice is meant for spineless cowards- let the law take its course, but if found guilty ban the lot from racing again. Good luck to the next cyclest getting into this vans way! Nicely done you bunch of chops!!
  16. An A-class douche for sure; pretty certain Translux will "take note and pass on your complaint for further investigation".... Like unicorns exist. That being said, saw some cyclists giving a motorist some animated hand gestures this past Sunday, when he dared to go past them on Jonkershoek road, a bit to close for their liking. Ignoring the fact they were riding, not two but three abreast. Afraid rules and laws cuts both ways and we as cyclist conveniently ignore our own transgressions.
  17. Hardtail will be ample for OV, some flowing sections thats probably a bit more fun on a dual- but not out of a terrain point of view

    Some dodgy deals

No worries I bought three of them- very excited!!
  19. Not that this is news, but spent my Friday morning very productively after i spotted this (obviously dodge deal on Gumtree) buy three Trance SX 27.5's for R30 000, yes please. Alas- our Lim(paw-paw) seller didn't keep track that the internet never forgets (ps add is placed from Cape town, yet the selling company responds in email and phone from Limpopo- and they are actually registered as a company.... Told you i was bored) Exhibit A: http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/century-city/3-2014-giant-trance-x-advanced-27-5-xtr/1001087122590910213809009 Exhibit B: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-GIANT-TRANCE-27-5-SX-LARGE-DEMO-PERFECT-ENDURO-MTB-5-5-FULL-SUSPENSION-/331112640062 A dime a dozen.

    cape argus mtb

Cycle the Delvera routes, jump over the R44 and peddle the route over Delheim, Muratie and Knorhoek- done, so save yourself R220 entry and the absolute mayhem of trying to find parking anywhere close to le bonheur on the Sunday.
  21. What is Momsens & Specialized frame guarantees like?
  22. I shaved 4 seconds of my Jonkershoek climb PB by not partaking in this conversation and actually cycling. (Kidding, my PB's are so slow the garmin shows hours instead of minutes, never mind seconds) Lighten up guys, there are seriously way worst things happening in the world than being touchy feely about "what i find offensive" also a healthy dose of keep a guard in front of your mouth (keyboard) will also go a heck of a long way, if you feel the urge to take a low blow at someone else, rather ask yourself "am I going to feel better after pressing submit". If so - go for a ride instead or buy a punching bag, you obviously have unresolved issues to sort out. Happy trials or whatever else it is you ride on.
