    Hell and Back

    Yikes. Canoe time

    Hell and Back

Its a bit of drive to hear its not happening, tough call by the organizers to make. Lots of factors to weigh up and safety probably top of the list.

    Hell and Back

Did the organizers indicate that a call will be made?
  5. Hey guys if someone knows who Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat is, please sponsor him a optometrist visit. When the light is red - it means you wait, especially turning right from Lourensford str onto Main road, only 4 lanes crossing that intersection. We are quick to go ballistic about cars but it goes both ways.
  6. Didnt have the nuts for the 57, so settled for 38. Some serious chain sucker mud patches but course looked in fine shape after all the rain last few weeks. There was a bit of a issue at 29km mark, route markers were basically non existing, one black arrow to left and from there..... We couldn't find much or to deliriously tired to see anything! I'll be back next year for sure, 57 is wicking.
  7. The super wide angle does make the positioning almost fool proof, except when its so wide you catch brake and gear cables hovering around!! Agree on changing settings though, those gopro buttons are stubborn and taking it out if the case each time. @Michael remember to check what your default settings are before filming... Had one to many shots which I believed should be great ones turning out to be a time lapse series of photos...
  8. I have the black edition and running the app on iphone, in all honesty as nice as the app is, its more a useful tool to "see" if your camera mounting is rght. For remote use, rather spend the cash and buy the go pro remote.

    MTB in WC this weekend

Tongue in cheek, will probably be raining (again) "dry" as in nothing around
  10. What a crock of .... When you have so called experts making statements based on biased research. Seriously they determined 3.5 % of cancer was caused by moderate alcohol intake??? Would love to see that data. On weight gain, some simple back of the envelope math blows a few holes. 7 calories per 1 gram of alcohol ( 1,27 ml = 1 gram ( second thing alcohol does not "drink" other liquids, its chemical make up just makes it less dense, like carbon dioxide is more dense than oxygen) ) so a 13.5 %wine will give you 13.5ml of alcohol per 100ml serving = 10.6 g of alcohol. So 375 ml ( half of bottle of wine will give you ) 39.75 grams of alcohol or 278.25 calories. Well, chow 100g of chickpeas - 440 calories or plain youghurt 186, 100 grams of Nutella... A sweet 2240 calories. Seriously guys two teaspoons of sugar and 2 slices of bread delivers more crappy sugar to the system half a bottle of wine. Stuff like this drives me to drink.
  11. It seems like a dry weekend for doing a race this weekend, as Val de Vie got postponed. Any other 40 to 60km races this weekend in the Cape Town / Boland area?
  12. Man, I wish tomorrow was Friday!!
  13. Is it not verboten by admin to have more than one hub handle.... OP seems very familiar with the Hub and where to post his / her gripe. Just asking.
  14. Make sure you do this just before your Strava segment, then hoof it!!
  15. After 13 years of use you have a solid case for trademark & intellectual property right to the name, (if not the route of the race itself! ) Sure there must be few legal eagles in your cycling club. Excuse my ignorance but why does a race need to be endorsed by CSA?

  17. A bit of a 180 degree on topic, but how do you guys deal with fellow cyclists disregarding road rules at will? Seriously guys, not a single day goes by when I dont see guys cruising through Stellenbosch with complete disregard for road rules. Turning left at intersections on red, jumping stop streets whole sale, riding up one ways you name it. Sunday morning had three guys going over the R44 intersection on red at Mercedes garage, the car in front of me drove up to them 500 m down the road and obviously voiced his opinion about their stupidity, two of them flipped him a bird off the bat and the third laughing. Making it more embarresing the guy had his 1.5 m sticker on and a Thule stacked with bikes- a fellow cyclist telling them its not on. And getting told bugger off!
  18. That is a dangerous strip of tar at the best of times, if there was no oncoming traffic he was just being a d**k. In the same breath lots of fellow cyclist in cars patience were tested by a group of cyclist this morning on Jonkershoek road sauntering along four abreast, problem is your beamer chop will loose his cool and see if he can clip one of them. Safety first, unfortunately 2 tons of steel at 100km/h always beats carbon matchsticks.
  19. Thinking of building up a run-around road bike with single blade front and 6,7 or 8 gear cassette. Anyone who has done this? Do you need to use a track crank or are there alternatives?
  20. I've only done short very non -tech rides on a lefty so cant give any opinion on it vs standard. But what I do know, I can shake 5 to 10 kg off myself before shaving 50g off components, and really learn how to handle a bike on technical stuff rather than splitting hairs on which fork will solve my shortcoming. Those world cup boys ride the gear they do, set up the way it is because 5 seconds on a 4.7km lap means gold vs silver. I would spend a full minute slurping on my bottle to remember if my medical aid is paid up before hitting the rock garden. Back to lefty vs std.... Whatever gets my tubby arse over the bumps.
  21. The science of rubber bands.
  22. So let this soak in a bit...... Well done hubbers
  23. I know a couple of people we can "test" the baton on!!
  24. Some very valid points Bees, but honestly does anyone in SA need more awareness of crime being out of control? Wayne did add that not knowing what you are doing with a weapon is at best pointless and at worst as you point out dangerous. If I had proper training in using said gear, you probably need to make a educated call if its a smug little s**t that see's spandex as a soft target or a proper gangster, if its the smug one, count me in for Golani-ing him properly.
  25. Buy from almost any pharmacy, usually kept behind the desk. Standard is 250 or 500ml. Isopropyl alcohol.
