  1. This sounds nice, I will investigate them, 🙏
  2. This is a difficult question. The chronological age of the rear tire is about 2 maybe 3 years, and the front, circa world war 2. . But their “Vitality Age” I think is a lot younger on account of me doing only short naff kinda rides avoiding mad rocky stuff and all. And the bike often hanging nicely in the garage while I do extended couch potato workouts. Though they have seen quite a bit of tar, which is prob not optimal. I know this answer is as clear as mud. I will take pics tonight.
  3. I need help, but not bad enough to read all 94 pages. Or even 1. I am running Conti race king / X King on my camber. Of late, I just don't have confidence in their grip, especially on the back. Like when i stand on a bit of a snandy or stony little incline, I get slippage. This has accounted for 2 consecutive falls one Mordor afternoon. I dunno if the nobblies are worn or if the tires just aren’t optimal, but I sure as heck dont get this with the butchers I am running on the levo xl. They are rock solid, and inspire confidence. But I assume they are heavy as lead, and not compatible with an “analogue” bike. So, do I change the conti’s or grin and bear it. And what do I swap them for? Also. I just hate punctures and sidewall tears, so i need something grippy that is not too delicate. I need value for money. I want my cake and I wanna eat it. And I dont know anything about tires or mountain biking really, so advice would be appreciated.
  4. Damn. I should have shut my big mouth 🙃
  5. It would really be a pity to trade in your Scott spark, so maybe get new friends till after the Epic. Or just let your existing ones just wait for you. Swapping your ordinary bike for E is a radical choice. That said, i had a similar problem; I started riding with my brother and his friends on their ebikes, and they were always waiting for me. Trying to stay with a full Ebike on the climbs is a fool’s journey, no matter how unfit the rider. so to cure that issue I got a Levo SL, which has a much smaller motor, and is much lighter and more nimble than a big bastard Ebike. It rides like an ordinary trail bike - like a stumpjumper, and I love it. It would be good for you as its made for the “fitter” rider wanting just a bit of assistance. The Only issue is the battery is also much smaller, so I got the range extender to cure range anxiety. But, i never sold any of my ordinary bikes, and I still ride analogue with my non Ebike friends, both road and MTB. They are all better and faster than me, and I don't care if they have to wait for me, and being the good mates that they are, neither do they. So I would never have bought the Ebike on their account. And I would not wanna convert to E full time. Though, I confess, when i am feeling lazy or need a recovery ride, the Levo sl is now my go to for solo MTB rides.the Ebike makes you lazy as hell, but its amazing fun. its an expensive way to make the transition, but it leaves your options open.
  6. When you go to bed at night, your bikes wait till they know your’e out for the count. Then they start talking about you. And its not good. Beware the bicycle revolution. Just saying.
  7. Back to bike oil. the mountain bike and the ebike squeel like puppies in search of their mommas if i dont oil after almost every ride, especially when i was riding in mud and mad puddles in summer. the road bike lets me know it wants oil, by giving @#£& changing gears, especially going into the 28. it always waits for me to be miles from home before acting up 🙈 the trainer bike (runs ultegra) just goes on forever and ever without complaints, no matter long i neglect to oil, and boy, i have been a lazy bastard at times. Though it does get quite a bit quiter after a good lube. So, I am interested to hear what all your oil regimes are like. Do you lube after every ride, after every wash, when Jupiter aligns with Mars. Ps. I use Holy Cow. And wow, the stuff is the shiz.
  8. Ya, true. But still chit chat 🤷‍♀️
  9. why on earth do we pay what we do for chain oil? Please someone answer how a teeny bottle of oil can be worth ZAR200.
  10. I rode the green route yesterday. And its really nice. That said, I thought green is for beginners/ dirt roadies. But I was surprised by some technical sections which are way above beginner level, especially in the ruins of Mordor where I ran out skill and saw my ass. twice. we bumped into the trail building team, and they are nice and friendly guys, and they are obviously putting in huge effort and seem excited and passionate about it.
  11. Well, there is a bit of a difference between this scenario, and the criminal conduct of a scammer, isn’t there? A scammer does not have a watch, but he pretends to have one in order to part you and your money. This dude did have a watch, and he did deliver it. He (as the OP perceptively pointed out) just had an alternative perception of what brand new means. I have often encountered people with a genuine weird bias about stuff they are selling. They still perceive it as being brand new because it was so when they bought it. And they have difficulty understanding that it has degraded from brand new status under their possession. Its an interesting phenomenon. My theory is that a narcissist just can’t get comfy with the fact that his **** doesn’t smell. I bet more than a few eggheads have written academic papers on this. Anyway, I am not saying that’s what happened with this particular seller. In fact, I think he is a liar and a total asswipe. But still, he does not fit into the category of the oil rig scam artist. Which does mean to say that the public are not in need of protection from his next misleading ad. But, Popia has lots of unintended consequences.
  12. Why? It comes with the bike 🤷‍♀️
  13. I don't know who wrote it. Cant rememberwhere I found it. But it resonates.
  14. Rest in peace, brave warrior. Rest in peace. Reniet, I have no words. I cannot begin to imagine what you’re going through. “Condolences” sounds so hollow. May G-d watch over and care for you in your grief. I am glad Francois is no longer suffering. as to the rest of us. The future is promised to nobody. This is lesson of Cois. Live. Damn it.

    Formula 1...

Hi guys As a nation and a people and as the BH community, we have just gone through the most hair raising, cataclysmic week in our country. Lives, livelihoods, business and critical infrastructure have been destroyed. Food , medicine and fuel security are threatened. Its been a scary and anxious time. but it did not happen on BH I see (threads probably deleted or did not get off the starting blocks). Its like living in an alternative world where only the latest broken freehub has relevance to our existential reality. or maybe the LBS, horror of horrors, didnt true my front wheel, so my broken wheel falls within the domain of permissible content. Woohoo, i have agency on the hub cos i have a wheel that tries to turn under the constraints of its excruciating warped deficiencies. So BH has become tone deaf and intolerant to the happenings in the world, silencing the exchange of ideas, fears, anxieties and messages of hope in a pandemic, the dangers of which have been horrifically augmented by a plot to unseat our democracy. If your business was looted or burned down, you could not come here seeking comfort. If you lost your job, you have no voice here. If your’e stuck in your holiday flat in Ballito without food, nobody here wants to know it unless you also have no more bike oil. And if you dont, you better tell us what brand you dont have and why its the bestest superest bike oil eva! Its draconian, pathetic and downright ******* stupid. But, I guess it is what it is. anyways, our good friend, @Stretch has started a lovely chat for hubbers and ex hubbers to have safe and open NCR (and CR) chat with hub “mates”, and its been good to just talk freely about the unrest, some fun stuff, politics, sport, the virus, the tour. And all. Its just an outlet for us oldies to carry on the conversations we enjoyed when the tap got switched off here. There are no real rules, except I guess, be lekker. And don't be a ****. (We have nod any yet.) If this interests you at all, come join us on discord chat here : https://discord.gg/DuRPajpR When registering use your hub name so we all know whose who in the zoo. And yes, you can still come back here to agonise about that clicking BB that’s been driving you and your mates to suicidal thoughts.
  16. Maybe we go full tilt laaitie and join tiktok? ????????????????
  17. I understand your position. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
  18. Dear @Matt and @Nick As a compromise on the NCR thread shedding, I would like to request and suggest that you bring back just the coronavirus thread. It was a place where we could connect with one another in deeply troubled times, and share experiences and knowledge of the pandemic. As such, It was also a source of great comfort, and it served the community well, at a time where we and our families are under existential threat. People like @River Rat and @DJR (to name but 2) shared expert and invaluable knowledge. Yes, there was a bit of bitchery too, but nothing too serious. please would you consider reinstating the thread. ???? Thank you for receiving and reading this in the good spirit in which it is posted. all those who agree, please would you hit the like button. Edit: i should also mention @Dale , who generously gave of his professional skills and compassion to give us hope, strength and comfort.
  19. I have temporarily re-activated my dstv just for the tour and for Wimbledon. With all the works stress, and the covid surge doom and gloom, i really need a pick me up, and I cant wait. I hope to watch as much of it as I can on the trainer.
  20. Religion, yes. I agree there. but, Politics was no more polarising than the days of 26er v 29er. Nobody wanted to lose the trump or global politics thread. And though pretty feisty at times, I think all protagonists on both sides in those threads learnt a lot from the other. And I don’t believe those threads gave birth to any sworn enemies. So, imho the discussion served the community well; shutting them is unfortunate.
