  1. hey guys i recorded the route from dunked( ok most of it, lost abut 4km at the stop as i paused my phone and forgot to restart until we were almost at ellis park). i cant upload the Google earth track but if you want it PM me and ill send it on via e-mail
  2. @ Dalem44 when in doubt youtube, its how i learnt everything i know yes there are mistakes to be made and learnt from but changing a cable and adjusting end points is a useful thing to be able to do, makes life easier that having to schlep to the LBS for small things, services etc i agree take to LBS( not that i do, since learning how to service my bike myself i do everything i can myself). my humble 2000000000000 zim dollars worth is if i can do it why pay someone else to, as i say thats just my opinion though
  3. Hear you on that, they stop like I've ridden into wet cement!, Also love the heat sinc on the pads, can't say it's doing anything but looks like the dogs bollocks
  4. Nice!!! My latest upgrade is a whole new bike, sold my merida and bought a scot ransom for 4k and a brand new xt groupset with DMR peddles, yes it's heavy as hell but as soon as the trail turns downhill it's a demon!!!!
  5. I am confused, what does the pad placement have to do with the oil level? Just move the pistons back in the caliper, take the pads out use a wrench and push the piston outward away from the opposite wall, the level of oil will have little to no effect unless there is too much in the system. My understanding of hydrolic brake systems is limited though so if I am wrong please forgive me and correct if possible.
  6. take a look at your deraileur end point, theoretically they should be fine as you stay in gear when peddling forward but check that the deraileur cage and jokey wheels are inline with the actual gear you are in, also check to see where the chain is slipping from, stand next to your bike and peddle by hand to see if its from the front or back that the chain shifts, this will narrow down your search, it may just be that the end point either on the front or rear deraileur, or both are not far enough and the backpeddle accentuates what you cannot see or feel while peddling forward. that would be where i would start.
  7. does anyone know what the motivation for staring in braamfontein was?
  8. dunkeld start for sure, see you all there at 18:00?
  9. 3 and half actually, while the rants and raves about how i need to up my game , ride faster, be more patient etc are typical of the type of answers given by the "mature" audience we have here on the hub, you all miss the point, i was not slating people for being slow, nor was i stating that they cannot learn i was making a statement about the fact that they cannot as mr single track pointed out, ride over a 5c coin, i do not expect people to be able to do a downhill track in their fist or even 100th race but a 2 ft rise on the path does not constitute a mountain nor does it make sense that when skills run out these people stop in the middle of the track and stop the rest of us, i too run out of skill, more often than i would like to admit but when i do i get the F*** out of the way so more competent riders can pass without having to stop, and that is my point in it entirety.
  10. Not at all, as I said I too had to learn and am patient, I understand not riding out of ones skill level but a bump on the track doesn't qualify, case in point is the 94.7 MTB race last year, there was a 1m wide gap between 2 ridges which had a slight rise, not at all difficult, just befor the bridge and we all had to wait for 15 min for people to walk it!
  11. Ok so before I start I need to state that I ride a mountain bike, love my sport and am, I believe very patent with non experienced riders, I wait and help wherever I can. That being said I now have to rant about stupid slow idiots that buy a mountain bike and get off at the slightest little technical section or mud, it's a frikken mountain bike you tjops it's meant to get dirty and be ridden over the bump not walked!!!!!!! This toy throwing session is thanks in no small part to all the weekend not-so-warriors that enter races to walk through the frikken south african bush rather than ride as "it's to technical and dirty". at the risk of being taken to pieces piss off and buy a road bike!!! Referring in particular to the bottle necks experienced this weekend at the USN cup race and other races. Sincerely those that ride their mountain bikes.
  12. I run shimano ice 203 front and 160 rear, honestly can't say I have ever had such stopping power, am looking at changing to 180 rear purely as i want them to run cooler. As for the mechanics and physics, it's all as patches says.
  13. R600 for stans tubeless conversion kit, includes 2 rim strips and sealant. You don't need to change the tires but personally I don't trust the thin sidewall on non UST tires, rather go for the best tires you can afford, me I love 2.4 continental mountain king but I am a sucker for punishment, with regards the bike look a the classifieds there are a few really good deals. Deor is not bad and unless you plan on being more than a weekend warrior will be more than sufficient, just remember though that it is the worst of the best( by that I mean it is the lowest spec decent groupset out there), that being said though the 2013 deor is roumeoured to be this years slx so wouldn't worry too much
  14. I'll be there for sure, very tempted to get more lights, anyone know wherehe guys got those rope lights last time?
  15. The answer depends on what you want to do, have fun or ride fast, a 29 er has its advantages in terms of speed but you roll over obstacles and dont really get the feel of a technical riding, a 26 however is harder work and doesn't roll as fast but feels more in contact with the trail, personally I would go for the better spec 26. A tubeless conversation on non tubeless ready wheel is about R600 odd, you can do the make a plan route but that ha its own challenges. Oh sorry that's without tubeless tires, if you choose a proper UST sidewall add that cost to the conversation.
  16. have a Scott ransom 30 with Fox TalasR 36. primarily do all mountain type riding.
  17. hi all, i need some assistance, i have a new bike and the suspension is way way too involved for my simple brain to comprehend, i have downloaded the manuals, setup guides, youtube video/s etc etc and am still confused, the fork and rear shock have more features and functions than i have ever seen and to be honest none of them make any sense despite reading the instructions cover to cover repeatedly. is there anyone that can assist in either setting up/ teaching me how to setup or charge me for the setup of the suspension for my weight and all mountain style of riding? i am in the JHB area so the assistance will have to be close enough for me to drive to, a trip to Durbs or CT really isn't on the cards i am afraid. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  19. Check out the darkensburg gardens, plenty to keep you busy in there, it's about 50 bucks for the day with miles and miles of different trails. Haven't been myself but my father lives in underburg and he has told me about it. From what I was told you follow the rd through town away from maritzburg/ howick, it's about 5km from the spar in underburg. As I say haven't been it that's what I have been told. Last I was there the guys in the fox shop next to spar gave me directions but alas I didn't make it through.
  20. Fark the beer get that man a bells!!! That is just nuts
  21. these just arrived from Chain reaction. am like a kid in a candy store, cant wait to fit them.
  22. why not use the pro-trainer software that comes with the device rather than a web based one?
  23. hey guys, i just want to get an opinion of my set-up, i have looked at the magic shine lights and various others but have gone this route as a start. so i have a LED Lensor B7 mounted on the bars@ 210Lumins( stated on the pacaging) and a LED Lensor H7R headlamp@ 170Lumins(again stated on the packaging). my thoughts are that while the bars are facing one direction i can look in another. my goal is a 24 hour mtb race eventually and riding critical mass for now. any thoughts on this kind of setup.
  24. hey Guys, was at fountains this morning and saw a cyclist being loaded into an ambulance, under the road in the fountains side of the park at about 9:30 is this morning(wed the 21st). Don't know what happened but it looked quiet serious. Does anybody know if he or she is ok?
  25. ok so i have decided the new Bars( sitting in customs at the moment) needed new grips so bought whit transparent rubber grips, and some KCNC bar plugs, anodized red of coarse. the next upgrade are a set of Dirty Dog discs, very very cool, expensive but cool.
