  1. Mountain kings are the best tire i have every used, going to be looking for a new set soon as mine are almost at the point of replacement. have been told to look at the hans damphs which i may do as well. mate of mine( actually the same mate that suggested i try the MK's) is running a set of WTB bronsons, he swears they are as good if not slightly better than the MK. at about half the price that may be my next option though.
  2. all valid points from the guys here my 2c is get the 203's if the will fit and arent going to cause issues on the fork frame etc... why because they look the frikken business, not other reason thats it, you will be able to stop on a dime etc but they look cool. when you are at the bike wash after a ride... they look cool. when you get a coffee during your ride... they look, cool, when the XC race rats with 10c pieces for rotors pass you or when you pass them, they look cool.. i think that's about it from my value adding opinion
  3. Deor is a perfectly good entry level groupset. best way i can describe it is, its the worst of the best if that makes sense. its really not a bad groupset, to put it into perspective the following may prove useful: its not the hard and fast rule but its a pretty good representative sample current mountain bike groupsets include: Cross country component mid to high end range * XTR (9 speed) - Top of the range for cross-country mountain bikes * Deore XT (9 speed) * SLX (9 speed) New in 2008, replaces Hone and LX * Deore (9 speed) Entry level cross-country mountain bikes Downhill/Freeride component stupidity range * Saint (9 speed) - Top of the range for downhill and freeride bikes, and many components are based on the XT groupset * Hone (9 speed) - discontinued in 2008, replaced with SLX Recreational mountain bikes component cheap makro/ game range * Alivio (8 speed) * Acera (8 speed) * Altus (8 speed) * Tourney (7 speed) - Includes several different levels of quality, and can be found on department-store bicycles
  4. fark please be my dad and fit hope breaks on my bike too
  5. the question is why? in the event of a puncture to get home etc yes, or if you are mid stage race and have a really big puncture you cant plug again yes but otherwise run tubeless and forget about the problems of tubes.
  6. MMMMMM AVALANCHE, now thats the best 2 days riding ever, did it last weekend as well, bombed down some of the best fast single track i have ever ridden, serious test of skill in some sections,
  7. next weekend is good, also at Mankele this weekend so no Gauteng riding for me
  8. oooohhh pick me pick me, ill do stupid *** with you
  9. while there is no excuse for poor breaks on an expensive bike it may be that the breaks are running metal pads and they need to bed in slightly before you get the full power from them. in terms of value for money i feel that shimano has the lead, considering the price point they touch what breaks are supposed to do and from the top end of spectrum i feel they are better than most( not all but most) of the competition. only solution i see for you i am afraid is let them bed and develop into proper breaks or get rid of them and fins a set of shimano's. would most highly recommend the Xt's but the slx are just as good as i have heard
  10. http://www.ebicycles.com/bicycle-tools/frame-sizer Take a look for refence. Not the last word and a bike shop would be best at taking the correct measurements but may give you a refence point to ask questions around.
  11. ah crap there goes any ides of work, thanks for that... very cool site though, thanks for making and ruining my day
  12. i would love to but work too far from home to make it viable, also the shower thing is a problem, stinky all day not so much fun. i am however considering a scooter or something similar as the cost of fuel is killing me.

  15. Spruit Air time, taken with sony xperia z burst mode, very cool feature, 5 seconds and 35 shots shots quiet a story
  16. sorry only saw this after my post, I have one and its awesome
  17. i live on my nespresso, i must warn you though once you have one your life is ruined!!!!! you will never be able to enjoy another cup of coffee again and if you do its just not the same as your nespresso. i have the CitiZ with the frother and never have anything other than cappachino at home anymore. my little hint for the day is to put a teaspoon of vanilla essence and 2 teaspoons of brown sugar into the milk before you froth. makes a little cup of heaven
  18. get one of these... http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=72&products_id=532
  19. thats one hell of a mate!!! awesome stuff, enjoy the ride.
  20. i have ordered from them a few times as well and only ever had decent service and a great experience, 2 mistakes made and both rectified by them once i told them, before i could suggest anything else. the first mistake was on a set of bars, i ordered a set of anodized red bars( cant for the life of me remember which ones but they were a cheapy set on sale) opened the package and realized they had sent me a set of OSX Chromag's instead, i mailed them to let them know of the mistake as the OSX bars are 4 times the price of what i ordered and they came back and told me to keep them, was extremely surprised as i was willing to ship back for the correct ones. Very very impressed by that. second issue was 203mm ice tech centrelock rotor that i waited for more than a month for, mailed them and they sent me another after having completed the lost in the mail form thingy. the second they shipped by priority mail without me asking so again very happy. i am not saying they are perfect but they make me feel like they value my money spent and that's why if i want something my LBS doesn't have they get my money,
  21. future life if you believe the hype
  22. good deal, nice looking stand as well
  23. Hehehehe that's exactly the way I do it, never knew about that pin till tonight, looks like I have learnt something new.
  24. Splines look good to me, don't think the silver pin is part of the crank, I have stripped many cranks off bikes and never seen a silver pin, perhaps some shrapnel picked up when the crank arm came off on the trail. As for the build who did it? Would be worried that they didn't tighten the retaining star bolt thingy and the bolts to the correct torque. I Would perhaps drop by another shop to ask if they would be so nice as to help and quickly put it right. If not and you need some help drop me a pm ill gladly assist,I have my own way of tightening the bolts that has yet to fail me and I have built 7 bikes so far. Would give it a good clean and use a degreaser to clean up properly before using fresh grease, also use minimal grease on the splines, just enough to ensure it doesn't bind permenantly.
