  1. hi Guys, i am interested in doing a tri-Athlon at some point and am just curious as to whether or not there is a polar heart rate monitor strap that will work in water. i have the normal "dry" strap but know that's not going to work for the swim, also when i finish the swim there is probably going to be a section of time where it is not recording due to being soaked( i know it may not be long but i am looking for accuracy). so bearing this in mind and the fact that i already have a Polar that i paid through my a** to afford i ned to know if there is such a strap or if for that matter they even exist?
  2. do a complete factory reset of the unit, i had a similar problem with mine on the speed sensor, there is a hard reset and factory rest, be sure to do a complete factory reset, will find the link i used to get to the internal services menu on the watch and send to you shortly.
  3. Cajees are shark SH**, i was in a position of having to change my girlfriends tubeless tires and in the process of shopping around (always believe its best to check, if for nothing more than a window shopping session)and happened to be in the sevens centre one sunday hence a trip into the shop. now i have a few problems with the store which i will list: the staff were standing right outside the store in a plume of blue cigarette smoke when we arrived( as an ex smoker there is nothing worse that the smell of tobacco)( admittedly i know this is a pet hate and over looked it). we were asked by one of the guys that smelled like an ashtray if he could help, to which i stated we were looking for tubeless tires. i was shown to the wall of stock they had and advised that the continental tires are best for her type of riding( OK admittedly i was playing dumb to a degree). i then asked about the Maxxis tires as i have them on my bike and love them. i was handed a set priced at R595 each!! i know the price of these and almost fell over when i saw their price. when i stated he was mad i could get the online for R400 he went off and came back saying that was too low, best he could do is R450.( this is where i have a problem, i will pay what something is worth but refuse to be ripped off). so after deciding against them we made a trip to Solomon and got the exact set for R380 a tire> ok end of vent
  4. i have a rock shox dart3 fork with poplock if you need it, not sure how its going to integrate as it seems like the build so far is V-braks and the dark is a disk fork but its yours if you want it. PM me details, am in the kyalami area so can drop off no problem
  5. while i agree to a certain point that we don't want to make the situation worse, sitting around just accepting it is utter crap, its complacency that allows them to get away with this kind of action, i do not profess to know what the right solution is, nor do i think each of us carrying a gun/ knife/ whatever and creating lynch mobs is going to help the situation either but something has to be done. sorry just my 2c worth, complacency is the root of most of the problems we face in SA, the "what can i do" argument only allows for the perps to carry on and not fear any kind of recourse.
  6. hey guys, i have a nice new custom spray job on my bike but now have a conundrum in that i want some very specific custom decals made to suit the new look, does anyone know anyone that can assist with some?
  7. ok so i have spent hours of prep work, and a hell of a lot of care respraying my bike and wheels, so here is the first pic i have of her, she still needs decals which i cant find for love nor money but looks wicked, well i think so anyway.
  8. you need to remove all air from the shock first, that will release pressure from the bolts allowing them to be moved out of the mounting sleeve and allowing you to move the shock.
  9. http://www.mvix.net/default.asp best bet, records as AVI, has programmable recording sessions and is one of the best things i have ever bought, have a DSTV PVR as well but this is great as i just drop it in a bag and am ready for a holiday/ weekend away etc with my media collection. also functions as a wifi media center for access to download from.
  10. i did a tubeless conversion on my bike yesterday, wish i had read this post first but hey i feel the R1500 is well spent, bought Stans tubeless conversion kit for R600 and then went to town on 2 new tires, have been lusting after a set of Maxxis wait for it "LUST' tires for a while now so took the plunge and bought a crossmark for the rear and a monorail for the front, used a compressor to inflate as they just wouldn't seat with a floor pump. also bout a side wall repair kit, plugging kit in case of a puncture and 10 bombs as they were ridiculously cheap. the conversion was a bit challenging but was easy enough to do for me, maybe i was just lucky but had no issues at all other than spilling a bit of sealant.
  11. i have been cycling for about a year now, all be it not 100km every weekend, my rides are social at about 30-50km a weekend normally i cramp in my quads, particularly the inner part of my quad just above my knee. that being said saturday was a completely different experience with both my hamstrings cramping by loads of water i dont mean i am drinking in excess of my camel bak capability, on any given ride i will have my 3L bladder full and finish with about 500ml to 1l left, perhaps my wording was wrong there, i meant to say i drink sufficient water. although i dont add salt to my diet i dont go out of my way to avaoid it, so the natural salts etc that are in my food are about all i get, i do enjoy cheese and biltong so i would assume( yes i know its the mother of all F*** ups) my natural salt intake would be enough a big thanks to all for the responses so far.
  12. ok i have a problem it is no longer one that i can ignore and am going to seek medical advice but want to get a view from the forum first, my legs are strong i know that as i can push more than most in either a squat or leg press but i cannot complete a ride or the day thereafter without severe cramps, either in my quads or hamstrings, i am healthier than most with gym training and a very healthy diet but this baffles me, could it be that i do not eat any salt? i have heard that salt is one of those necessary evils( in the correct amounts of coarse)but i honestly dont like it and as such avoid it wherever possible, if i use a product like cramp block i am for the most part ok but this is also inconsistent and i am in a state of constant worry that if i do any leg exercise i am going to cramp. every time i train and ride i ensure i consume enough water, i am unfortunately not able to drink energade of one of those as i am diabetic, well i could but it makes managing my blood sugars very difficult! in short i am asking what suggestions people may have that i can try to avoid this, is there a certain food or mineral i need to be adding to my life or am i just going to have to accept it? any advice is appreciated.
  13. guys i know i am doff, most of the time anyway, but what is it used for? cant seem to find what they are for anywhere online.
  14. ok i have no clue about the dont sand blast part, cant for the life of me figure why though, i can understand why you wouldn't powder-coat the frame but sandblasting i dont know. i do know though that you need something for the paint to bond to and pure alu with a slightly rough surface will allow the paint to bond nicely. i have had success in the past with normal tin spray paint but thats clearly not the best way to do it, depending on what kind of paint job you want and how artistic you are you can airbrush the frame yourself, the best paint in my opinion is automotive 2k and 2k clear-coat once complete, only thing to remember above all else is that your paint job is only going to be as good as your prep so clean clean clean and use latex gloves, paint doesnt like the oil on your fingers at all. It will possibly peal or blister if you tough the frame with bare hands prior to painting, best thing to use is a high alcohol ether type solvent at first then a good wash and clean with sunlight, dry with lint free cloth and allow to sun dry for about 15 min in a "clean" environment before painting to make 100% sure the frame is dry. for 2k allow about an hour between the first 3 coats then 24 to the next, and 24-36 after that for the clear to ensure the paint sets properly. not sure if that a help but thats my experience with paint, have painted many RC heli canopies and recently my bike frame too so thought i would throw my 2000000000000000000 zim dollars in.
  15. awesome thanks guys, have set at 190 as it felt a bit too soft at 170 and feels great. thanks for the help all.
  16. ok guys i am a bit confused, i have recently mad the move to a soft tail and purchased a cheap shock to get the bike ridable, if i was to go on feel, in terms of not knowing what the hell i am doing, i would have set it at 250 odd PSI, this however is the max the shock should be pumped to so am confused, how soft should it be? oh its a rock shox air R shock and i weigh in at 85kilo's. any advice is welcome.
  17. my newly completed toy
  18. have also been hit many times by the wave that is life in this country. i think i am going to run for president one day some of the laws i am going to pass are: if you drive in the yellow lane you get hung in town square. you steal you get hung in town square. rape, castration with a dull pair of spoons stapled together with some rusty wire. murder, let the crows have your still screaming carcase for whatever meal they see fit, each day we will help keep you alive by cleaning the wounds with vinegar and sulphuric acid, scrubbed clean with steel wool. corruption, well lets just say the leather s&m death from the movie seven would be mild compared to whats coming. may not be in power long but will make sure i rid the country of as much as possible in the 3 months or so i manage to hold on
  19. hi all, i have made a monumental mistake, i striped my frame to sand and respray, as it is a carbon frame the cable tensioner's at least thats what i hope they are called) are not part of the frame in the same way they are on an alu frame, hence to get a proper spray done i drilled the pop rivets off and sprayed then re-attached, problem comes in where i have misplaced, and for love nor money i cant figure how or where, the front de-railer one. this as i am sure you can imagine presents a problem. does any one know where i can buy a replacement or perhaps have one from an old frame or something i can buy/ steal etc. i honestly dont know what else to do or try. thanks in advance.
  20. what a wanker, while i agree with the principal of let he who has no sins throw the first stone there is a big difference between doing 130 on the highway and 180+ on a winding blind rd such as that, while its not going to do much for the morality argument i think this oke should be hung naked in the city center covered in molasses and left to rot. its pricks like that that get people killed.
  21. he has been there for quite some time, every time they try to relocate him he seems to vanish, he has been named Houdini for that reason. have heard many reports that he wanders in and out of the surrounding properties at will which is why they cant find him. not sure if he is the offending party in the Harties and Heritage Lake spotting but from what i remember, my ex girlfriend does the database admin for Northern Farm, he was originally from Heia safari yes. best advise is stay well clear
  22. Nice now we need Details mate Details, which trail? how far, any falls, scrapes, bruises( ego not included) etc. as izzypzee says, now kiss all semblances of a life and spare cash good buy
  23. sorry to ask a really stupid question but diesel? i can understand the meths but the diesel confuses me. i had a cheap chain cleaner at one stage which worked ok but was a pain i th ass to put on and get off etc, lookiong at getting a clam shell one to use soon, just need to find a cheap effective degreaser to use once the little bottle that comes with is finished
  24. i have had the opportunity to speak to people on both sides of the claim, and from my experience i have seen them work and not work. i know this is probably going to open a can of worms but having no scientific proof, and by that i mean proof that can be substantiated by science and math rather than a persons experience. i honnestly think it is a snake oil marketing ploy that has made the company more money than i think we would all like to admit is possible from spinning a few good stories but my opinion doesn't really count for much. i have worn a PB bracelet and for me i saw no effect whatsoever, my oppinion is that it is a rubber band as per the opinion of most of the hubbers. from the other side of the coin i have physically seen a result, note i must admit it was more than likely a psychological effect rather than a physiological effect but when i first got my bracelet i went cycling with my girlfriend and a friend of hers that has not cycled since getting pregnant almost 2 years ago, hence a bit of fear and very unstable on the bike, riding to slowly to get enough "keep me upright" motion going, due to this she fell more often that i can remember, as a joke i said she should take my bracelet as it was supposed to help with balance, as sure as i sit here at the moment she had the bracelet on she stopped falling. admittedly this is no proof but for her it "worked", a placebo effect perhaps and more than likely a psychological aid more than anything else but is that not kind of the point? in an emergency a person can, thanks to adrenalin, do things we all wish we could, pick up that car, jump 30ft between buildings etc, if the drug/hormone gives the "know i can" effect is it not perhaps a good point that some people are going to "think they can" and there for "believe they can" and in some instances do. a waste of money for most perhaps but if you believe it works and for you it does, despite the lack of proof, who cares!! i know it makes no difference but after some thought this is my humble 200000000000000000 zim dollars worth.
  25. anyone tried to hit the PB or /southafrica/ site, seems they are unavailable, thought it was my internet connection but have tried on another pc and same result, seems the ausies are not as big a cowards as the local guys. funny as hell this is, admittedly i bought one, never really believed it worked but tried none the less to answer my own curiosity, not quite sure how to kick my own ass but going to have a great laugh trying though. hehehe
