  1. Mercantile are apparently going to partner with Capitec to offer business banking. I called Capitec on Thursday morning as I needed to invoice an overseas client for payment ASAP. I spoke to a very nice lady who informed that someone from their business banking department would contact me within 48 hours. Unfortunately, it is now Tuesday morning and nothing from them... perhaps my email was taken down incorrectly or digits in my cell number were inadvertently transposed... Nonetheless, it was urgent - so alternative plans were made.
  2. Thanks Slowbee, Should have elaborated. Most of my income will be coming from outside of our borders and probably in the form of USD or Euro. Need a bank/account that expedites fund clearance and doesn't skim too much cream off the top...
  3. Hi - looking for a steer on which of the banks offer good business account options for a small professional business. Leaning toward ABSA as they currently manage my personal banking. Any recommendations? Horror stories? Thanks in advance.
  4. Same with Discovery... Received this via e-mail on Friday: Keep tracking your GARMIN workouts – you’ll still get your Vitality pointsGarmin is still experiencing an outage that’s affecting the Garmin Connect platform. We are currently receiving workout data from GARMIN, however this process is taking time and there will be a delay in allocating Vitality points for workouts using your Garmin Device. Although we are receiving workout data from GARMIN, step data has not yet pulled through. GARMIN is aware of this and do not anticipate that any data will be lost. The GARMIN team is working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Rest assured that your all your workouts and step data will sync with Vitality as soon as Garmin Connect is back online and Vitality points will be awarded for both qualifying workouts and steps. Vitality Active Rewards members who have achieved their goals for the affected weeks will still be allocated their plays on the gameboard. We are in constant communication with the GARMIN team and will continue to share regular updates with you.. You can find more info on the Garmin issue at https://connect.garmin.com/status/

  9. Hard hitting? Perhaps on some aspects... Sure municipal debt is a primary contributor to the state that Eskom finds itself in; but to state that political interference is the root of all evil at the parastatal is somewhat disingenuous. How about the 100 Senior Managers who have refused to be subject to a lifestyle audit? (https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/100-eskom-managers-dont-want-to-be-vetted-state-security-agency-20191015) Does the Board have no influence on this? How about independent reports which stipulate that Eskom is overstaffed by 30,000 employees rather than the 15,000 being stated - and that they are all overpaid!? (https://businesstech.co.za/news/energy/261647/huge-number-of-job-cuts-on-the-way-at-eskom-report/) How about their own employee's being implicated in illegal connections? (https://ewn.co.za/2019/03/04/exclusive-eskom-employee-makes-r20k-per-month-on-illegal-power-connections) The Board has been ineffectual and, quite frankly, poor. There seems to be little to no technical knowledge within the Board. Instead of complaining to parliament and the media; and seeking unsustainable increases from NERSA they should be implementing the changes needed to begin salvaging this (rapidly) sinking ship.

  14. Yip, I went down in the tunnel - my Knog light totally ineffectual in the eternal blackness in the middle of the tunnel. Fell once more in the next series of stormwater drains - back wheel hit some of that green moss carpet and fishtailed out from under me. After that it was plain sailing apart from the uphill in the Melville cemetery -did make the ice-cold red bull at the last stop taste that much better tho'...
