  1. hmmm. I think you have to set some goals to make this interesting. cos cycling around sa but sticking to good roads has been done many times. how about cycling around south africa but no further than 50km from the border or the coastline? my mate walked it 2 years ago and he said that it was pretty awesome. lonely in the northern cape tho. Are you going to do it in stages or all in one go?
  2. its a jump bike! i.e. an oversized bmx with bigass wheels..... do not get technical! if you can get one for cheap, Do it! I find that peddling efficiency, reach and all that jazz are completely irrelevant when playing on your jump bike because you are standing all the time anyway. I think the only real difference between a long and a short is the likelihood of your ass landing on the back tyre when landing hard. (more likely on a short) If anything. the short should be easier to flick around and have fun on.
  3. I have one. totally and utterly awesome. If you can, get one!
  4. Brilliant! thanks man.
  5. dude that sounds seriously good! where are you getting your paint from? I have been using a dodgy little spot in pretoria but its such a quest to get to and has very limited stock. (I want to do my frame in a light blue with metallic fleck and then ford focus orange detailing.)
  6. hey man. I am not sure about where to get it done in cape town. but up here in joburg there are a number of good places. cost varies depending on the work that you want done and how many pieces need to be sprayed. It is significantly cheaper if you do the prep work yourself. This means removing all the old paint on the frame, removing any bits that won't survive getting baked (i.e. plastic, rubber, bearings etc.) and taping up the area's that you do not want to get filled with paint (headset, bb shell, pivots) in order to get my jump bike powder coated black, they quoted me R.300 I highly recommend plascon removeall. apply, leave overnight and hose all your old paint off.
  7. yeah. kona and ellsworth.....
  8. gosh that HA looks super slack. me likey..
  9. so i think i just watched a dropper seatpost advert....
  10. The DH track is incredibly rough and awful. however there are several trails that go along the linksfield ridge that are quite pleasant to ride. one loop i did went up through linksfield, along the ridge and then bombed down to giloolys farm. after that we cycled along the road to that golf course that runs between sandringham and linksfield. it was abandoned when i did it and actually a lovely ride. its fenced now i think. but seriously, if you want to do it, go and scout your route on foot with pepper-spray first. its gnarly. and not all the pathways are ridable and go places and its not like the spruit where if something does turn ugly in front of you you can turn around and ride the other way. that hill is steep and the trails are claustrophobic and dodgy. good luck and report back! also, have you considered modderfontein?
  11. hey man! post this in the gravity section and i am sure someone will be able to help you.
  12. Hang on........ theres something funny about that fork..........
  13. haha! my mom and dad managed most of that fine! just took my little bro and myself along with them. (no dirt jumping tho....) but no, do not have kids at present.
  14. For me, Variety makes life sweet and keeps me motivated. I ride XC, Enduro and I dirt jump. I sport climb and boulder competitively. I hike, scuba dive, swim, run, fish and ride horses. I cook, sketch and read. I do not waste time on pointless activities. i.e. shopping with girlfriends/wife, eating mcdonalds and gardening are rat race activities and thus motivation killers. I never sleep later than 7.00 AM So go do something different for a while. you will come back to cycling a happier person.
  15. dude. just listening to the music from that vid gets me psyched. its the music from the movie inception. always gets me amped to get out and do something.
  16. which full throttle did you pick them up at? my local one had no idea what i was asking for....
  17. beautiful frame! are you sure its aluminium? Generally lugs are used instead of welding a frame for cromo tubing and the polished look would also suggest cromo to me which means it might not even have a clear coat as cromo is a 'stainless' steel... the lug is essentially a sleeve that the tube fits into and it is held in place by either a brass or silver braze which 'glues' the whole lot together. i am not sure if aluminium can be braized..... if it has been brazed and clear coated it is unlikely that the removeall will affect the joints at all.
  18. yeah dude! why are you buying your wife boxxers? lingerie is normally considered more tactful!
  19. nope. get the skills first (involves lots of crashing) then get the carbon....
  20. +1 on that technique. worked really well when i ordered my 5.10's off crc.
  21. +1 on the DMR V8's. been running mine on the jump bike and they are great. you can also replace the grub screws on them when they wear out.
  22. I asked but all i got was: No lo entiendo. comer una hamburguesa con queso...... So i will ask again and use a spanner. thanks for the advice!
  23. I am planning on replacing the front fork on my jump bike and I see that most jump forks are 20mm through axle. I heard that with some hubs it's possible to covert to the larger axle size. how do I tell if I can do this with my front hub?
  24. Giant prototype. super slack head angle and lowered BB. they just need to tweak the rider-bicycle ergonomics and they will have a winner!
  25. I would take one! climbs like a goat, bombs down like a goat. only downside is smells like a ...............
