  1. Next time we build and she comes stomping over just give her a bottle of Gin and a naughty magazine. If anyone needs me to be the "Experienced environmental scientist" I can totally play the part....
  2. how are you doing those graphics patches? you mentioned a computer and a cutter. are printing onto the vinyl and cutting manually or do you have a nifty fancy thing to do it for you?
  3. meh. Its ugly. just get rid of it and get an axis 29er HT. sooo much better for france I am sure. I will happily take the intense to a scrap yard for you.....
  4. Probably the most manicured set of jumps in the world. Soooooo want to go there. Once i have skills
  5. Hmmm. I would not be too happy about drilling holes in my bars. Bars take a lot of stress and flexion (I once watched Mr Christmas Tree snap his aluminium answer bars in mid air) and drilling a hole will definitely affect that. Why dont you just glue the mount on? Roughen the area a little with some coarse sandpaper and epoxy your mount in place.
  6. I ride with contacts. the big prob is that when you are seriously sending it you do not blink often enough to keep the damn things lubes and so when you do eventually blink they leave your eyes completely.
  7. Check out the facebook group Mountain bikers do it downhill. there is a spot out in benoni where there are some fun jumps and the guys have been putting in a lot off effort to a spot called eastside which is close to eadenvale. Its a no dig no ride spot so if you do go there show up with a shovel!
  8. Core excercises are the best thing you can do! more power when standing up and cranking up hills, More stability when bombing down hills. Strengthens back muscles and improves posture. and when you come off it lessens the splat factor and increases the bounce factor so you can walk away and get back on the bike quicker.
  9. Ah! solution is easy then! build more trails! then you will never need to be on the road except to maybe cross it.
  10. AAAAAAAAARGH toooooo tempting!
  11. oh yeah and I will definitely be there to help with the pump track tomorrow
  12. Savoy Jumpline? where be this?
  13. you should check in the gravity thread. lots of talk about potential enduro tracks in gauteng there.
  14. If you want some easy flat riding then do the marked trails that start at the magoebaskloof hotel. The yellow route from there is very flat and practically manicured. Check out the maps at the restaurant at the hotel. or, If you want some serious fun. drive with someone to the famous waterfall (I cant remember what its called but its just out of magoebaskloof) take the turnoff to the waterfall off the tar road and drive up the dirtroad. Ignore the second turnoff to the waterfall and drive uphill along the logging roads. about 20km later you will be at the top of the hill. then, ride back down to the waterfall. Its absolutely astoundingly fun and beautiful as you will be cruising through patches of indigenous forest and pine. I dont think I had to pedal once.
  15. Dude. Just do your own maintenance. its only a bicycle and most of its quirks can be dealt with yourself. its super rewarding, doesn't take much time and you do not have to deal with any idiots (other than yourself occassionally!) that or take it to rietvlei.
  16. I guess the question at the end of the day is whether or not an extra gear is worth R.4000 (thats an entire second hand jump bike...) Me, I would just go with a 34,32 or 30 upfront and keep the rear at its 36/11. or go for the conversion and if it does not work for you sell it and go for the upgrade.
  17. Pardon my ignorance. but what is the general lee converter for? Also, What derailleur are you currently using? I thought if you are already running a 2X 10 you could just get a wolftooth or a Narrow wide chainring and then 1X 10 would be sorted....
  18. Hey All. I did a jump last week with a bit more vigour than I normally do and when i landed and started pedaling I realised that my chain had snapped. As the chain was pretty geriatric I decided that replacing it was a good idea. So I went to my LBS and got a replacement. that was the same specifications. As I cannot find the old chain. I had a couple of problems getting the chain to the right length (As it came it was way too long and the rear derailleur could not tension it at all from gears 7-9 if i were on the middle chainring at the front) I got around this by shortening the chain so that the rear derailleur can provide a little tension it now shifts easily. However, When I went for my usual morning cycle today, whenever I pedal hard something strange happens, as the chainring turns the chain does not disengage from the middle chainring. thus the chain gets all snarled up and i cannot pedal. I had a similar problem a while back and never figured out why it happened and then it magically went away. Any Ideas as to what the problem may be? I am not sure if its because the chain is not the right length or if it is related to what broke the original chain in the first place.
  19. hmmm two possible ways. option 1: escaped option 2: walked up the crocodile river then the jukskei and then the spruit. option 3: strolled along the krugersdorp ridge and then cut over a couple of roads to delta. Me, I am psyched. Love the idea of urban wildlife. Just hope its not rabid....
  20. and MTB FF helmets tend to have more vents! tried jumping in my old MX lid once (hot, sweaty horror.......)
  21. Dude keep the boulder. what a bombproof bike! I used to do everything on mine. As said earlier, rather save up and get a better bike later. there is nothing more irritating then getting into the upgrade game with limited budget cos you spend all that money on something and its still not right. If you have the itch to spend some cash get hydraulic disc brakes. not too expensive an upgrade, makes your bike look a lot more flashy and improves braking in wet muddy conditions...
  22. you can rent bikes at the pwc bike park in fourways. (not DH bikes tho...) there are some dirt jumps there too which are pretty fun to play on.
  23. Mods: delete this thread before mr Christmas tree reads it!
  24. haaaaa. perfect colour! where did you get it?
  25. hehe too right! you dirty hippie
