  1. I've just ordered the durolux boost 29er fork. Will let you know how it goes
  2. The map is wrong. There is dh2, dh1, dh0 and another one above. The gravel roads are drawn in incorrectly
  3. So for us poor non members, where and when will you guys be letting us know the future plans? And can we please have another build day to finish what we started....
  4. So how was the agm ?
  5. Was gonna post stuff. Just dont care now
  6. 7pm at tokai library. I too am not a member as far as I can remember but I have been involved in a fair few build days etc. So I want to come and hear what is going to be said. Even if I cant vote on anything. I understand the whole membership thing but I was caught a bit off guard when I saw that the meeting was for paid members only. If I had a spare 300 bucks I would join but payday is only next week
  7. True. No one ever built a trail with a keyboard
  8. Where has the tokai forum gone? Was there this morning. Did the agm fight get out of hand....
  9. Any trail that can be ridden can be ridden on a hardtail if set up right. Wont be as fast or as comfortable but its possible
  10. 180mm on a hardtail is a lot to handle. I've run 170mm on mine before. The problem is braking causes the front to dive and steepens up the head angle. Also you can go flying into rough stuff cos you have control at the front, but your feet get absolutely hammered and fly off the pedals. When you land a drop of any kind the front compresses but the back stays up so it pitches you forward which is also awkward. So basically you have to really hang off the back of a bike like this, which makes cornering difficult cos all your weight is at the back. So the front slides around, and kind of negates having all that travel in the first place
  11. I've been tinkering with geometry and sizing for a while. My goal is a 29er with a 170 to 180 fork and 160 or more rear. Basically as close to DH as I can go but still able to climb without being impossibly awkward. But actually there is no one bike that can do it all. Enduro style riding, slog up climbs and race down is one thing, but if you want to ride more varied trails it's not so good. So really you can have a race bike or a fun bike. It's very hard to get one to do both
  12. Maxxis high rollers 26x2.5!!!
  13. So I came here to read all about nuschool slack geometry. Exactly 2 posts about it then 12 pages of tyre wars!! Gotta love the hub. Speaking of geometry, I just built the worlds longest slackest dh bike. 62 degree head angle, 550 reach,1370 wheelbase. As soon as I can get it up tokai I will let y'all know if it's super sick or super stupid. I'm hoping sick....
  14. Those old invaders came in 10 speed with the single colour, or two tone 12 speed. I had a red and white one when I was about 12. Took the whole bike apart to paint it and never managed to put it back together
  15. 12 years later and its common technology now
  16. Finally finished my home made 29er. 66 degree head angle, 470 reach. Cant wait to try it out!
  17. Heres one i made earlier
  18. Funny to read all these comments from 6 years ago. How they wont work , 29er is a fad etc. 650b hadnt evwn been seen yet. Now everything is 29er. I was fully behind 26ers untill last year when i tried a 29er. Now i have one. Short travel long slack xxl frame. It is so much faster. The moment i rode it i knew that 29er was the way forward. Especially for dh.
  19. Maybe not a pretty as some but i built it myself so that has to count for something
  20. Pics cos it did happen!
  21. Mine was designed, brazed and assembled in my garage
  22. Helderberg might have the elevation but not the gradient. Look at last years world champs dh track. It was an absolute monster of a track . Very few local riders would even attempt it, never mind make it down cleanly. We have the mountains for it, we also have the infrastructure, they just arent in the same place unfortunately.
  23. Those 3 roots are still there. You can do the step down jump over the stump on the right, hit the chicken line on the left, or hit the roots in the middle. If you hit the roots you can land in the dh line or transfer mid air into the chicken line to the left. Its actually a sweet multiple line choice
