  1. The wp dh series had a race there every year up to about 5 or 6 years ago. The original track was about 4 mins long, a total lungbuster! There was also a 4x track . Hopefully the track will be back on the calendar this year.
  2. I think xc riders are insane, riding up the single track and then down the road! Seriously though, dh is not as intimidating as you might think. It just takes practice like everything else.
  3. I built my own bmx frame out of an old haro mtb with an arc welder years ago. Heavy but it lasted. I also had a lotus 7 for a month on loan from a friend. Awesome car and so simple to build actually. Get the book Build your own sports car by ron champion and have a look. I reckon 25 grand plus labour to get a basic one on the road. As for frame building, I can't find cromoly tubing anywhere. Any suggestions?
  4. There is gonna be a group of us doing it next year on DH bikes with full knobbies and no locked out suspension. And full dh gear! Full face helmet, goggles, the works to get some publicity for dh in the western cape. What is the cut off time ?
  5. Raw for sure. Did it to my DH bike. Lots of paint stripper and brass pot scourers. Then when it was all off I polished it with fine steel wool. Don't use sand paper as you will never get the scratches out. And wear gloves otherwise you will need new hands. I am thinking about getting it polished at an aluminium factory. Or red anodised...
  6. Small problem with Ou Kaapse Weg route. People getting to the bottom of Ou Kaaps will meet faster people coming the other way heading to Noordhoek! Can't see a way around that problem!!
  7. Hey PorS, any idea on what's happening with the dh3 quarry link?
  8. Aahhh, so that's why you're selling your boxxers and are now running 888s !
  9. Phillip V . That's the best bit of advice on here. Covie, its all about having fun with likeminded people? EXACTLY !!! Why are we fighting ? Cos we have different definitions of fun? Xc is different to dh, not better or worse. And we all share most of the same trails anyway. I'm going home to get my bike to have some fun...
  10. Which one is rotary mountain? Will be there like a bear to start building?
  11. We have a club. Its the diggers club, no subs payable and we meet regularly to dig dirt in the mountains when we should be watching rugby and drinking beer or some other manly stuff. I ride tokai cos I live there. If I lived somewhere else then it would be different. When I lived in fish hoek I had a trail on black hill. All mine! And friends who helped build it.
  12. What do you do for a living Cap? Teach primary school?
  13. Hmmm beer!!! Its almost weekend . Ride this afternoon then party time. 2 hours of work to slide through first though...
  14. So what's the progress on the dh3 quarry link PorS? When we gonna have a build day? And if not soon let's start on the snake trails for the xc guys.
  15. Ahh david! Its never a pointless argument until you chirp in! Now this thread has been rendered useless. Only kidding. Seriously though, none of the “manne“ consider themselves anything special, we are just prepared to put in the hours to get what we want to ride. And actually we all like different kinds of trails. If there was a group of xc riders who took an interest like we do then things might be different, but there doesn't seem to be anyone willing to step up and actually DO SOMETHING. Talk is cheap, the hub is free, but sweat builds trails, not words.
  16. I reckon the land owners at tokai don't really want anyone there at all and see mtbs as an irritation to be dealt with for good pr.
  17. On a completely unrelated topic, how awesome is the new dh3 tokai section? Can't wait to hit those jumps tomorrow afternoon while most people are at work or in the pub.
  18. No don't close it, there's nothing on tv to watch
  19. Hey PorS, I don't know how you put up with all this abuse. If I was you I would tell all the haters to go build their own fxxxing trails and just go ride. But please don't .
  20. I just realised that everyone has a different idea of the perfect trail. It depends on your skill level, your travel on your bike and much more. One mans washed out gully is another mans dh practice track. And as for perfect trail centers in the UK, no one is stopping you from opening one here! Go on then, you make it sound so easy...
  21. Let's get reeeedddy to aruuuuuuummmmbbblle!!!
  22. I need a fork like that, just don't have the cash!
  23. I have an old Azonic Steelhead , single speed with a 170mm fork on it. Its a rocketship down tokai! The long fork gives you a slacker head angle which is crucial for speed in the rough stuff. But any good steel hardtail frame will be pretty bulletproof. Enjoy!!!
