  1. Hey lads Does anyone know the dates for the western cape dh race season? I know that they were decided at the first dh meeting at Contermanskloof , but I can't remember what they were. After a good race at Paarl I want to try train a bit and take the season seriously. Well sort of!
  2. That all looks so sweet. I want your job . And I soooooooooooo want to ride that track!!!
  3. Its sweet. But I still think it should be single speed. Imagine how quiet it would be. And super reliable! I sooooooooo want one!!!
  4. Last night my wife told me to go to my room. So I went and sat in the garage with my bikes...
  5. Read carefully, I'd doesn't do anything for your performance, just measures it. So the idea is that it tracks how active you are against the goal you set. The closer you get the more ”fuel” in the tank. Seems legit to me.
  6. That's not what I meant. If you pull out a can of pepperspray... Aahhh forget it its late I'm tired
  7. Don't stress! I never take these forums too seriously. And I don't ever get violent. At 1,91 m tall a few words normally calms things down. But its still a real world problem that different types of riders don't get along. And that can only be bad for the sport...
  8. That's not the point. Why would you want to pepperspray another rider in the first place?
  9. I am not the one who said that they would pepper spray other riders. And I am all for new riders on the trails. Hell I even got a couple of my friend to become riders. But if some one brings his road rage to the trails there will be repercussions, even in self defense. People should think before they type.
  10. If someone peppersprays me while out on the trail I will beat the crap out of them with their own front wheel. Although a simple hello and curtious riding is what I normally do.
  11. Had a sweet ride this morning. Then got out of bed and had a schweet ride with mates on the DH bike.
  12. Or maybe the mtb roadies race cos the races are to easy? I mean not technical , just long slogs on dirt roads. Try do a 70 km race on a trail like boulders or snake trails in tokai. The dirt roadies will be crying all over their nice shiny 29ers.
  13. I've noticed this in tokai lately too. Groups of riders taking up the whole jeep track and not riding single file to let others pass the other way. So we just leave our dh bikes lying in the road at the top of dh1 too piss them off! Ha ha just kidding. But seriously, where the hell did all these riders come from suddenly?
  14. For a trail bike 25 to 40%. I run 40% sag on my dh bike and about 35% on my trail bike, but it has 180 mm travel! Its not a set in stone rule, more a guideline. It also depends on your riding style. I tend to stay more on the ground than hitting big jumps for height so softer settings are ok.
  15. A shock doesn't have any standard setting, only adjustments. First you need to set the sag. This is how much the shock compresses from your body weight when stationary. On a xc bike around 20 to 25 %. Then the rebound damping , which is how fast the shock comes back up. Too slow and it won't come up all the way before the next bump. Too fast and your wheel will bounce all over and you will probably crash. Then there is compression damping, propedal, lockout , travel adjust and more. Take it to the shop you bought it from or your local lbs and get some help for a basic setup. Then on the trail you can fiddle around and always go back to the basic setup if you get lost.
  16. Exept 650b won't fit existing forks cos the wheels are too big. I guess we won't know until someone builds a couple of dh bikes with 650 and 29 wheels and let's us all test ride. Until then I reserve judgement...
  17. 87 mph! Any faster and you go back in time, McFly...
  18. Hmmm. I just looked into my crystal ball and saw into the future. Hardtail=29er. Trail/all mountain=650b. DH =26. Basically the more travel you have the smaller the wheel size. Smaller wheels are theoretically stronger anyway so fit the aplication well. In ten years it won't be 29 vs 26, it'll be wheelsize appropriate for what you ACTUALLY NEED!
  19. If there's dirt under my tires then I am happy.
  20. A tad moist eh? It works well in tokai when its wet, seems to track straight on roots and rocks etc. The tread can clog up a bit in thick mud though but it flies out at speed. Into your face!
  21. Maxxis Ardent 2.6 soft compound up front and Maxxis High Roller 2.5 at the back. SUPERB grip and fast too. R300 each at Action cycles in Cape Town. Had nevegals on before that but just not as much control. Although they do last long. Be careful of the Maxxis super tacky compound. Amazing grip but after about 20 hours of hard riding the side knobs were almost worn off on the front tire!
  22. Kona is way cooler. My 2 cents worth.
  23. Hey all I am looking into building my own mtb frame out of steel. Does anyone know where I can get cromoly steel tubing in SA, preferably Cape Town. Also anyone built there own frame before? Advice and pics would be cool!
  24. Don't forget medics, advertising, medals, time keeping , 1000 number plates, toilet hire, generators + fuel, food for all the staff, pay for all the staff sometimes, accomodation for the staff on multiday events, the list goes on and on...
  25. It costs about R15000 to hold a dh race here in cape town. That covers medics( R350 per hour!) Toilets, shuttles, timing, setting up the course and clearing it after, etc etc. At R250 per entry X 60 riders you only break even.
