  1. If you actually do a bit of research you will see that its damb expensive to put on a race. There are a whole host of things to pay for and then you have to hope and pray that you get enough entries to cover your costs. Its a thankless task.
  2. I still try and greet every rider I see in Tokai, although lately the return greetings have been few and far between. Its worst just before the Epic...
  3. Eden and G spot can be ridden as one track, would be perfect as there are loads of trails to link up.
  4. Cmon guys, we have got to organize something like this in cape town and get all the different riding styles in one event. Would be Awesome!
  5. That's hardly swearing, unlike the suprise f word on DJ Freshs show today! Classic ...
  6. Ss west and stellenbosch have some awesome trails for what you describe. There are no enduro style events in the western cape (yet) but the dh scene is doing ok so come do a couple dh races, its a blast and not too serious , especially in the fun class... And don't stress too much about the lycra brigade blocking all the trails, just chill and have a chat while they high post it down the track after cutting in front of you at the top!
  7. Having had the same problem with sourcing 4130 tubing I am now using mild steel to make a rideable prototype. It will be heavy but will cost next to nothing to build and I can cut and weld it to adjust angles etc. When its sorted then I will copy it with stainless or maybe import a tubeset from reynolds.
  8. Just read 19 pages of this and all I got was older...
  9. Gonna start riding in tight cut off jeans...
  10. Don't believe anyone on the hub, they are all mad! Ha ha ha . Just get a bike and some kit and off you go. You'll work it out soon enough. One day you too can join the great 29 27,5 26 debate, or fight with other people who have slightly dofferent opinions than you. Its great! Just don't forget to ride your bike sometimes ...
  11. A friend of mine got 14 stitches in his shin from his bmx beartrap pedal years ago. It looked like a long strip of steak hanging off his shin bone. I almost always wear shinpads and my feet almost never slip off . But there's always that one time...
  12. Don't get me wrong, you need to be incredibly fit to be competitive at dh. A lot of the xc guys think that we are all beer drinking slackers( well I am but that's a different story!). So the base fitness training is important, but dh specific riding is as important.
  13. Zoidburg, if ya wanna train for dh then do interval training, not just slog out the miles. Dh is sprint racing so you need to be able to go flat out for 4 to 5 mins while staying in control . So those arms need training too or the arm pump monster will get ya! Then you're screwed. The best training for dh is to ride your dh bike flat out down a dh track over and over till your arms and legs go numb.
  14. That thing is sweeeeeeet! I've always wanted a steel fs bike. Better start saving then. Wonder if it will make the next dirt 100?
  15. No, the Yeti lives! It was my Foes fly . The bb and the swingarm pivot are one casting and it twisted and cracked! I couldn't believe it! Guess it will have to go into the dead frame collection on my garage wall.
  16. Just spoke to my wife about the build day and she flipped! So might not make it, gonna have to beg for a while...

  18. Wrt the brake setup, if you come from bmx then the back brake is on the right an from mx then front on the right. I rode a bit of mx but ten years of solid bmx riding means right hand for skids, its instinct and will never change. Its like trying left foot braking in your car, you WILL lock up the first time!
  19. That's pretty spot on advice . Just get a decent helmet and go ride with your kids, they will show you where and how.
  20. So I hit a rock with my cranks and managed to twist the whole bb skew in the frame! Now the cranks point to the right and hit the chainstay when I pedal. So frame is now useless. So I am looking for a couple of old steel frames to cut up and make a new front triangle and re use my swingarm and shock . Anyone got any old busted steel frames lying around?
  21. Why all the fighting? Its a 4 day weekend coming up, lots of riding time. Doesn't matter how much your bike weighs or costs, the most important thing is to ride it and have fun or get the satisfaction of a good training ride or race. I broke my dh bike on sunday so its ss ht for me this weekend but it'll still be a blast!
  22. There like a bear! With beer !!!
  23. So whens the next build day? I am keen to swing my hoe on the Snake Trails!!
  24. And what's the longest travel 29er currently available?
  25. I shouldn't knock it untill I've tried it! How would a bike like that handle drops, jumps and great big dirty high speed drifts through the bends?
