  1. I have 16 tickets for newlands for saturday. Was gonna be for my brothers bachelor party. Now what to do?
  2. Try having a look at cash crusaders and neils wheels in plumstead
  3. Dh is actually probably the most all round workout in cycling. Take a look at some of the top guys. They are super fit but dont look anorexic like xc riders. Plus its the most fun workout you can have. Remember your fitness level will be determined by your riding. So if you ride once a week then you will only be fit enough to ride once a week. There is no shortcut to fitness. Or bike skill.
  4. Confucious say" man in tight white girl pant feel cocky all day" or something like that. . .
  5. Nice work by all on saturday. Definitely makes the track more fun. That one "water berm" is now a 5 meter step down double! Dont tell PorS .
  6. Why would you want to dress up like someone else? Be original or join a team or club or something. Support your lbs and get some of their logos on your beer boep instead of some obscure company that no ones ever heard of.
  7. Thats more than just an entry level ride. Thats schweeet !
  8. How many flippin wheel sizes do we need? Its getting a bit silly now. Maybe i should dig out the old bmx and start a 20 inch trail riding scene. Cornering would be awesome but the bumpy bits would suck. . .
  9. Stay off the front brake. Dragging the back brake a little will help you turn a bit sharper. Lean the bike more than your body. Keep your weight on your outside foot when you turn. Look through the corner at the exit and relax, its fun remember?
  10. New chain on old cassette equals problems. By the cheapest new chain and cassette that is decent. Slx is good. Then just put the old one back on before you return the bike.
  11. Single speed 95 % dh bike 4 % on my ass in the grass 1 %
  12. The cost price of a frame alone is actually quite small and they will have estimated how many frames will be replaced by warranty and built that into the cost of the original bike. So they dont lose really. If one in 50 frames cracks then an extra 200 bucks per frame will cover it. Or just stand up on the bumpy bits and it wont crack. . .
  13. Oh 710 centimeters! Must be a bitch to put on the bike rack.
  14. 710 ? Bit narrow i reckon. Go for the full 780 mm boo bars like myself. If you are small you will look like a harley rider though . . .
  15. Nothing better than a good mag and a good crap . . .
  16. Back in the early ninties cannondale made a bike with a 26 up front and a 24 at the back. And diamond back had a 27.5 inch wheel bike about 12 years ago. Neither really caught on. Obviously
  17. I dont know how relevant this is but one way that i use to get comfortable with speed on the bike is to bomb the hills on my hard tail. I mean the streets. Then you dont have to worry about the ground but you can get comfortable with braking and cornering at 60 kph. Although i dont go that fast off road very often. . .
  18. If you ride with your left foot forward you will feel better turning right and vice versa. Everyone has a natural way. Left or right. Its like skating. Natural or goofy footed
  19. It works if you have the balls. Its hard to push yourself to go faster than your comfort zone. I find myself in races shouting into my helmet " let go of the brakes, leave the brakes" !
  20. Some downhill tips? Ok. Use flat pedals. Lower your seat. Never put a foot down unless you are stopping. Lean back . Easy on the front brake. Practice lifting your front wheel over small things like roots etc. Slowly at first till you get used to it. RELAX! Being tense on the bike means that you wont be able to move your weight around to control the bike. The faster you go the smoother it gets. It has taken me years to beleive this but its true. And most important, have fun. See you on the trails.
  21. Coke should only be used as a mixer. With double brandy. Preferably kwv 5 year old.
  22. I dont know if you can. I used to take my bike on the train back in the day when there were no conductors so you could ride for free. My wife catches the train to cape town every day. I will ask her to check tomorrow and will let you know.
  23. Just saying that an 8kg bike isnt gonna slow you down if you carry it up the hill. I see you xc guys walking down the rough stuff all the time. That must be slower. And please drop your seat next time you try ride down the dh tracks. I get scared watching that high post action.
  24. The satisfaction of beating people on bikes that cost literally 10 times more than yours is worth all the late nights in the garage, trying to get home made chain devices to work and straightening bent hangers and disks.
  25. Hasnt anyone noticed that its quicker to walk up than trying to ride a granny gear 22x34 ?
