  1. Get another ride to substitute if you don't get an entry. We were on the waiting list last year, but it seems the race filled up on the first batch of entries.
  2. Just for the look, I hope. Can you imagine your B.O. after one lap in such a shirt!
  3. Ekurhuleni council charges effluent at a slightly cheaper rate than tap water, but they use your normal water kl consumption as an indication of how much your water you flush down your toilet.
  4. Not entirely true. It's all about your inseam measurement. I'm 1.8m tall, but with an inseam of 92cm, I was borderline L or XL acc to LBS setup. I decided on a L as I have a shorter upper body reach,= 90mm stem.
  5. As a female cyclist, I opted for a fs, it's light (11,3kg), Comfortable ride with option of lock out on both shocks for a hardtail ride. Have her ride a hard tail loaner before you buy. She might feel it's too a bumpy ride, esp. on terrain like northern quickie today with all the grass sections. I also tried the 29er but It felt big and clumsy. (and I'm 1.8m tall.)
  6. Hubby's got the exact same bike, same noise. He had the crank serviced without success. He fitted someone else's back wheel and the noise disappeared. Realised the crank is not the issue If you have Swiss hubs, remove your casette and grease.
  7. Yeah, about that, I see they changed the format for this year, the Sabie Lite is only 2 days, and the SabieX distances are 50-60km p/day. Sabie Lite used to be my fun 4 day stage race for Dec. **hijack off**
  8. You guys are mean! But at least some riders pitch up for the ride. Our 'training group' battled to get off the ground before the Argus, now it's even worse. Any 28-30km/h training groups out in the East (east rand mall) at 5am?
  9. Sounds like some are sour because they weren't asked to pilot the tandem instead. Ride the cycling awareness campaign wave with them. Perhaps now less people will refer to the event as the augus/t (One can only hope).
  10. Uptight, perhaps. But let's wait for these incontinent guys swing their winky around at a race in full view of your little daughter. I bet you'll sing a different tune then.
  11. With so many riders here in Gauteng with bladder issues, they'd lose 10% of the field because of urinating in public before the race.
  12. Got an ave of 37C, max 45. (mounted Polar). But then I was out there for 8,5hrs+. The late start didn't help much either. At stables waterpoint they only had water left. Was dying for a boiled potato. I doubt if I'll take it on again in its current form.
  13. +1 And I chose this year's event as my marathon debut. Finished the race, though. Flew down last couple of hills as if I didn't have brakes: Sunglasses too dirty to see and I didn't care much after 8hrs in the saddle. As for the orgs on my 7h50 start: . got a 45 degrees C on my Polar sometime during the day. Was silly enough to get up Sunday and do the half.
  14. Yeah, seems like I don't receive the seeding mails as well! Also, husband and I both entered event at the same time and only he got a mail saying he qualifies for free T-shirt being 1 of first 1000 entries...
  15. You passed us just before the downhill on that section and you looked determined. About that volvo driver: what an inconsiderate man. He may have helped you, but once you passed him, he slowed down to a snail's pace and made traffic back up behind him and broke our momentum. With no road shoulder and constant traffic approaching we were stuck behind him for some time. Some folks need to learn the 101: how to second in a race, whoever he was following.
  16. +1 Fortunately the R28 out and back was cut from the route. Years ago we had a nice fight on the tandem 20km out. +1 The CSA aunties are at the venues from early, one can man the no. collection while sipping her coffee. Lucky for us we're in the open groups and they do allow collection for us.
  17. But do these race referees speak up to achieve this neutralized section, or do the riders decide among themselves? There's usually one rider in the group that doesn't want the faster group to pass, he latches on or picks up the pace and everyone else follows.
  18. Hell, I complain about cyclists. Like the Engnet chicky swerving between traffic on Elizabeth rd at 6h00 this morning. One day she'll (and others like her) will get knocked over because of their arrogance and we all cry 'damn motorists'.

    Ride for Sight

lekker ride. My first long r4s in ages.superb marshalling an presence on the road. Suffered jusr after the reserve entrance, but found my legs before heidelberg. Some pigs on the road with goo and water sachets everywhere. Some of the aunties on the back of social tandems are the main culprits.
  20. Not entirely. We rode near their 4x4 track which had some steep, rocky climbs. I see however the 20km race stays on the tar road.
  21. We rode on Atlas a few minutes earlier. Hope the guy is ok. Visibility was poor this morning with the overcast conditions.Keep those lights on untill you get home!
  22. Cruised the 50km on tandem. But boy, some of these riders need to wake up: if it's between you and a car in an intersection, the car WILL win; To verbally abuse the motorists and expect them to respect you sharing the road the next minute doesn't work; Riding three abreast is not on. Pity some of these fools will dissappear off the road after the Argus and we will be left to try and gain respect from other road users.
  23. Too many road crossings, leaving irate car drivers, lots of hooting, ignorant cyclists not adhering to traffic rules, drivers swearing at cops who were only trying to do their job. I felt sorry for them. All this race did, was to pee off drivers already not liking cyclists. Can the organisers say 'batch start'? Hell, the entry fee practically warrants this.
  24. Can you guys who recently made the jump from half-marathon to marathon comment on how much effort it took? The Sabie half marathon has watered down from a 45 to a 38km. Or did I choose the wrong marathon to take on as a first timer?
  25. It's also reported the families had made contact with the witness themselves last week. They've also requested an independant authority to take over the investigation. Perhaps now the investigation will gain some momentum.
