  1. @Tankman: what if the comm confesses before the start that some of the route markers got wet, and some got lost. No matter how well you study the route, if the marker aint there, it aint there. (On a lighter note: Men get lost on the road in their cars and now you want them to study an offroad map of a mtb route BEFORE the race??? )
  2. MMmmm, one dude owns up and gets a DNF. The other short cutters say nothing and get top places and prize money... It doesn't sound right. The first dude is the good guy and honest. They all should've been dnf'd. Or, everyone should've kept their places. Perhaps the comm was fast asleep?
  3. It used to be Jock, but now too lazy to train. Fav mtb, tough but fun: Magalies Monster mtb /Induna Will try Kremetart this year. 2 years on their rowdy supporter bus ( )will make you want to ride the race.
  4. The star reported: However, if you plan to travel during the time of the election and will be away from your voting station, you may apply to the IEC for a special vote. Application forms can be downloaded from www.elections.org.za and these voters will cast their votes at their registered voting station on a date before the elections. DO IT!
  5. If the Sabie X had a litter free 4 day tour, why can't a one day show? Perhaps spotters on the route to take race numbers of those littering. With their next argus entry he/she will automatically pay an extra R50. This pays for the cleaners on the road and a warning not to do the same with his next race. If we don't behave, the cape will pretty soon have residents who dislike cyclists as much as Cradle residents do.
  6. You should've pulled him over right there. More speed, captain... Even if he unknowingly purchased the bike, it's still stolen property and he has no recourse. Best is to do the footwork yourself. Police investigation will drag it out that by the time you're ready to recover the bike, it has probably changed hands.
  7. Ek gebruik Conti 2.4s op my 40km races.
  8. Give the dude a break. He's into his cycling where some of you were 10-20 years ago.If the argus is a big deal to him, great. @Bpayne: You cried foul about stage 2 in a Tour de Boland post last week as if it's the end of the world and nobody grilled you. Live and let live, buddy.
  9. Bought 6 pics from them for Sabie X 2010. 10-12 megapixel digital photos. Ea 3-5MB. Now I can enlarge, crop, etc. Cool images. Otherwise have your auntie sit in the sun for 3 hours in one spot with her mik and druk and you'll probably have a out of focus photo to show all your friends.
  10. Please, did you smoke your oaties? Typical idiot cyclist mentality to once again blame the motorist. The cyclists are in the wrong, and these guys are the reason why motorists hate us so much. Ironic actually, the clubs stand for safety and all that crap, i'd probably be safer on my own instead of with these dumwits.
  11. Exactly. We were happy little bikers before the races were aired on tv, advertised to the already converted etc. It seems the bigger name of the sponsor, the more expensive it gets for average joe. If general expenses like land use charges, registration is paid by the organiser, what does the sponsor bring to the table that will benefit midfield riders like me?
  12. Yip, I made a point not to read the drivel they wrote in response to the article. It shocked me what the Beeld readers wrote a while back when a cyclist was killed on our roads. Yet we are such a sport-loving country. It seems that nobody wants to allow any other person his time to shine. Last night on SABC they reported that Mocke said 'it (stage 2 fiasco) will never happen again'. Let's hope for the best the rest of the tour. Enough said.
  13. Ditto.I think the request went out too late for clubs to help ,most riders had their own plans for the weekend. Somewhat off topic but ran the Tuks race in Pta on Saturday and EVERY intersection was properly manned. Someone made sure of it. I didn't know running is so much fun (and organised)
  14. Sure, a sponsor doesn't want an event to slip under the radar with no exposure. It would've been good for spectators, other than the cycling fraternity, if they knew about it.After the stage was cancelled, not much showcasing happened in Sandton anyway. It's the price CSA paid for ignorance. I still don't understand Greg Till's comment from last week when he said the cyclists mandate was to 'take them off the back roads and put them where people can see them'. Did he dream that up? I bet the European pro's don't care where they ride: as long as they ride?
  15. Does anyone know if lights were put down in the tunnel at Hartebeespoort Dam? It was sad to see one of the three break-aways crash there on Saturday. It seems he broke a collar bone. And as for the poorly marked sprint just after the tunnel- No banner, just a piece of tape over the road and a dude with a clip board! The riders didn't realise they had to sprint. Even the winner of the stage said the time split board showed to them was inconsistent. Whoever was in charge of it, the riders don't want to read all the other crap written on there: just the TIME split, for goodness sake. The board looked like a take-away menu.
  16. It's been said earlier, how can you even comprehend rolling road closure on a circuit that the riders will do a couple of times? It's got nothing to do with the motorists. Close the damn street off! If Joburgers made peace with it on 94.7 race day for 10hours, they can endure 2-3hrs closure. Not much thought was given to the simple fact
  17. I told my husband the same thing when we watched Saturday's stage. The camera got swung around so much, I suffered from vertigo within 5 minutes. The feed switch between the helicopter and roads was a black screen for a few seconds every now and again. And the quality of the shots looked like the race is held in mid winter. We are spoilt with the Giro and Tour de France coverage.
  18. Where's this mandate from cyclists to be 'taken off the back roads and be placed where people can see us"? Yeah, right in front of oncoming traffic. Like someone said yesterday, he doesn't care if he rides back roads the whole time as long as the route is safe, traffic free and 130km long. Also, riders train to peak at SA's. What's the use for an 'event' later in the year to make up for the mess?
  19. Yip, it's hassle free. It's my 2nd year through ROAG and I have nothing but compliments for them.
  20. It was our gripe last year as well. They should either adjust the course to make it 40km or change the ad. But then again how many pro's will a 32km draw? That, and the fact that the organiser never went back to clean up his bunting tape on the course.
  21. How far is Frankfort from Reitz by car? Thinking if I drop off hubby in Frankfort before sunrise ( ) , will I make it in time for my 30km ride in Reitz.
  22. I am not happy about it either. But it gives the better half a chance to catch up on his training for Joberg2c. He rides the marathon on Sat and then the 1/2 with me on Sun. I just wish they'd be a bit more generous on the discount for riders doing both full and 1/2 events). Most guest houses charge for the weekend, so we're there until sunday either way. But driving back to jhb after the race, my legs and behind will complain for sure.
  23. Remind me to send you the instructions of 'how to crop a picture' in the morning! Not sure if that's a saddle sore, but it doesn't look good.
  24. The HRM will work just fine. Unless she's trying to place the strap across, instead of under her boobies.
  25. I am the one who always has to drop and collect family at the airport because we stay so close to ORT. The police is there on a semi-permanent basis at the exit or entry and they do spot checks. They let me pass just as much as they pulled me over and I am all 3 of the above you mentioned. But the harrassment is uncool.
