  1. I heard that some landowners in die Cradle and Muldersdrift areas have a tough time staying safe against crime and theft. It's only natural to protect and close off any further entry to your property if this is the case.
  2. the chocolate thief got 3 years jail, of which 2years were suspended. But ja: steal R100 chocolates=1 year jail, Take a life= house arrest. It's sad that so many criminals don't get caught, why doesn't the justice deal with those who get caught. There's something seriously wrong if prosecutors and police always battle to make drunk driving charges stick.
  3. If only cops used as much energy policing other offences than speeding. We should tell them there's more money to be made on fines for people who run red lights. R500 a piece=RRRRR
  4. The power was not off the entire time. The music started playing at 7H30 and there was a generator at the start singing along. Nothing like a few litres of fuel to keep that machine running. With regards to the corrupt results files: I cannot comment, but by 9h30 they were still busy putting line entrants' details on their system. Probably still busy...
  5. 'Stars on the move'? SA doesn't have stars.(soapie, movie or celebrity , sport, maybe!). We had a Posh and Becks wannebees... These riders ticked off motorists who have nothing but hatred in their hearts for us 'lycreans'.
  7. Anyone else who did this event? What an awesome event with perfect weather! I must say the cycle leg was tough with all those hills. I'm not much of a runner so the 2nd run practically killed me. Love the long sleeve shirt.
  8. 2-3,1, then 2 Yesterday's Vaal Toyota race was this pits. Along the R57 to Sasolburg a car transport truck passed us with an oncoming truck passing the same time. No shoulder to use, I was scared but somehow the tandem stayed upright. Then we both cursed the truck driver. It's just not worth it anymore.
  9. Do you analyze each business' turnover and profit margins before you buy? You guys would soil your pants if you see what supermarkets make on a 2l milk...
  10. I have a reservation for sale at Northgate Lodge for the Kremetart weekend for 2 people, but I have work commitments, so we won't make it Self catering, 5km from the start, I paid R920 total. www.northgatelodge.co.za
  11. It's an illness. Some people are too damn lazy to discard of their old stuff the correct way. No general dump site allows tyres, only a few and at a price. It's too far, too expensive too blah, blah blah. SA will NEVER get recycling right with idiots like that around.
  12. If the 'influential DA officials' live out that way, they'd drive their Mercs and BMW's, not bicycles! Nothing happened to that ANC dude who commissioned the KZN roads dept to tar the 5km section from the main road right up to his farm gate. Will COSATU be charging him for corruption as well? Oh the election drama queens...
  13. This is totally uncalled for. Please take the family/friends' feelings into account before you open your mouth.
  14. Yip, you don't train during the week because of the dangerous roads, go to races over weekends less prepared and end up tasting blood within the first 5kms cause you can't keep with the pace.I considered doing shorter distances though. But never felt wanted to quit in 13yrs. Husband's passion for cycling is contagious.
  15. True. My statement was in general life and not specific to this incident. Condolences to the cyclist's family.
  16. True, to some effect. But no policing brings unroadworthy vehicles, unlicensed (and uneducated)drivers. But we all should take responsibility for our actions. It's just sad that the value of a human life differs from one person to the next.
  17. it's a far cry from R3500 per rider hubby paid for his epic the year it was introduced. Not much has changed except the entry fee and that the ride stays in one area longer, thus less logistics.
  18. That Cele article is quite funny. The government will try to justify any action with a stupid news conference. The comments below the article are priceless.
  19. On a daily basis we complain about the exact points he mentioned, crime, crappy service etc. Some South Africans walk around with blinkers not to notice what's going on. Some choose to stay, some go. Let him be, he's not chewing your ass because you chose to stay.
  20. Hope Mad Dog recovers well. What's happening to my home town??? We've been talking about moving back to the west as the east is 'just not home'. And we thought that the westrand is a relatively safe area to ride in compared to other areas. Seems like the westrand has gone for a ball of ****.
  21. @Tankman: what if the comm confesses before the start that some of the route markers got wet, and some got lost. No matter how well you study the route, if the marker aint there, it aint there. (On a lighter note: Men get lost on the road in their cars and now you want them to study an offroad map of a mtb route BEFORE the race??? )
  22. MMmmm, one dude owns up and gets a DNF. The other short cutters say nothing and get top places and prize money... It doesn't sound right. The first dude is the good guy and honest. They all should've been dnf'd. Or, everyone should've kept their places. Perhaps the comm was fast asleep?
  23. It used to be Jock, but now too lazy to train. Fav mtb, tough but fun: Magalies Monster mtb /Induna Will try Kremetart this year. 2 years on their rowdy supporter bus ( )will make you want to ride the race.
  24. The star reported: However, if you plan to travel during the time of the election and will be away from your voting station, you may apply to the IEC for a special vote. Application forms can be downloaded from www.elections.org.za and these voters will cast their votes at their registered voting station on a date before the elections. DO IT!
  25. If the Sabie X had a litter free 4 day tour, why can't a one day show? Perhaps spotters on the route to take race numbers of those littering. With their next argus entry he/she will automatically pay an extra R50. This pays for the cleaners on the road and a warning not to do the same with his next race. If we don't behave, the cape will pretty soon have residents who dislike cyclists as much as Cradle residents do.
