  1. I drove passed the scene minutes after if happened, it was not a pretty sight. Only good thing I can say is he must have died instantly. I won't be back on a road bike for a while.
  2. Finally finished the 2 projects I started when lockdown left me with plenty of spare time. Both bikes were single speeds but hardly ever got ridden (old age, unfit and too many hills in Cape Town). Niner is a MCR and On one is a 26 Inbred. Parts were scavenged from my garage, bikehub (thanks everyone who responded to my wanted ads) and forks were sourced from Keanbikes who got them imported (straight steerers were impossible to source locally) The idea was to create 2 touring/flat bar gravel/ridged mtb/monster cross bikes, not sure what I am supposed to call them. The Niner has turned out beautifully, the One one is a bit of an ugly duckling but fun to ride.
  3. No unfortunately not, it looks stunning, getting the Eureka Specialita. I have completely blown my budget by just getting the MaraX.
  4. The MaraX and a Lelit grinder with a milk jug, mat and knock box for 30k. I have, however, decided to rather go for a better grinder as per Muzee's suggestion.
  5. Thanks for the advice, onlinecoffeeshop.co.za has been good with their communication. After some discussions about what I want vs need. They recommend this Lelit MaraX and are willing to put together a nice bundle with a grinder and few extras. A fair bit more expensive but still comes in cheaper than the Rocket Appartmento (wow this is a good looking machine though).
  6. Looking to move up from my moka pot and hand grinder. I don't want bean to cup but also don't want something too technical. I just want a really good cup of coffee. Anyone had any experience with onlinecoffeeshop.co.za? They have this combo deal Is this worth spending money on? The Rocket Appartmento looks very nice but is going to be way out of budget when I pair a grinder with it.
  7. Also looking for a Problem Solvers FD adapter if anyone knows where I could find in SA? Evobikes doesn't stock them anymore.
  8. Down to 3 bikes each at the moment so at least 4 to be packed in the container. On that note what shipping companies can people recommend? I want one with NZ experience, the biosecurity looks hectic.
  9. Thanks to Wayne and all who have contributed to this thread over the passed few years, it's been interesting reading, which now looks to become reality. My partner was approached by New Zealand rugby towards the end of last year to do a research project for them, I kind of once in a lifetime opportunity for a sports researcher from South Africa. So I said let me see if I can find a job and if so it might be a sign that we should live in NZ for a few years. I have now been offered a job in Whangarei, my partner can work from home and just needs to commute to Auckland one day/week. Just a few questions: Has anyone actually been to Whangarei, any comments as to what it is like? Is rental housing really as bad as everyone keeps telling me and is pet friendly accommodation impossible to find? (Yes I know everyone says leave the dogs but the hospital pays me a generous moving allowance so taking the dogs is no financial burden and my partner refuses to go without them). With the new expat tax to be introduced to SA on the 1st March what are people doing to not have to be an SA tax resident? (I am still going to have to have a bank account and house in Cape Town - my in-laws are moving into our house and are financially dependant on us) I go from being excited to terrified on pretty much an hourly basis about this decision.
  10. That video is sickening. Nick stays so calm and just asks that he keeps recording, can you imagine the pain he must have been in.
  11. Turns out a few of them are circa 1950s Puma knives and actually people collect them, will post photos later of which ones are valuable. A German friend is visiting my parents and he is going to take the knives back to Germany (Puma is German brand) to sell.
  12. Is this a Kukri?
  13. Got my mom to take some better pics. Chucking them out seems dangerous as the wrong people may get hold of them and they may be valuable to someone. Any place in Cape Town who would buy old knives?
  14. It has a logo on the blade on the other side. Will ask my mom to send another picture
  15. My uncle passed away last year, my aunt gave his knife collection to my parents who don't want them. Any idea what to do with them? Are knives worth anything?
  16. Any news from the press conference regarding the Masi protests? Has there been any engagement with the community or is it going to a 78km race from now on?
  17. I can just buy an iPad? seems way easier and cheaper, thanks! and it can hook up to my TV -https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/08/zwift-ios-app-version.html
  18. I only just got a Tacx Flux last week and not sure that I have it set up correctly, I going back to cwc with the trainer and my bike this week to see if they can help with the setup. It feels like the resistance is incredibly high and my average watts are at least 30 higher than on the Wattbike. This is using Tacx software. I was hoping Zwift would make the trainer more enjoyable so I got a quote for a new laptop from my IT guy today: Dell Latitude 5480 Notebook - Intel Core i7 7600U 2.8GHz CPU- 14" FullHD AntiGlare LED Display- 8GB DDR4 Memory- 1TB SATA Hard Drive- Wireless & Bluetooth- NVidia GeForce 930MX Graphics- Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE Card- Windows 10 Pro 64bit- 3Yr NBD Warranty R 25,378.65 Do I really need to spend this money to use Zwift, is it worth it?
  19. I am in the same boat as you are - now you have got me thinking...
  20. Not a cyclist but from a climbing form, Hikers mugged Silvermine Sunday 18th. Just a heads up... I was mugged in Silvermine yesterday, Sunday 18 June at around 1:30pm on the trail between Elephants Eye and the Sentinel Viewpoint. The trail was busy with many other people about. As I turned to head back I was suddenly surrounded by 3 men who came out of nowhere. They demanded I give them my bag. They were armed with a very large knife and so I dropped my bag and ran away. The only thing of “value” was my iPhone, which was locked and so useless to them. I caught up with a couple that were ahead of me and they told me that they had also been mugged. The lady was wearing her engagement ring and both were wearing their wedding bands. They were an older couple and had never removed the wedding rings for nearly 50 years. The lady told me she was struggling to get her ring off and the muggers threatened to cut off her finger if she did not get it off. Luckily she did! They also took their phones and wallets, but did not want anything else in their bags. I have been walking this path every week for nearly a year and this is the first time I have come across any issues. Strangely enough it was the first time I have ever seen rangers in this area as well. I had passed them as I was hiking up the trail. After speaking with the other couple who were also mugged, I then ran about a kilometer to the rangers and signaled for help. They radioed various other ranger teams to hopefully catch them as they had headed over the mountain to the Hout Bay side. Unfortunately it seems they were unsuccessful in catching them.
  21. Special people you and your mom. Thank you for making me cry sad but happy tears.

  23. Why did I not know about this thread?
