Thug and I had a little race. (This after riding some of the most challenging trails I've experienced) We rolled dice for how many marshmallows our opponent would have to eat whilst riding. I had to do this with 3 in my mouth, Thug only had 1..... Freewheel. The big ring has to come off, the cranks need a polish, the frame needs a respray and the retro wheels (Old Mavic rims onto Shimano 600 hubs) need to be built up.

The gear was perfect, my tyres were at 40psi and I only had to stand once or twice up the hills.

Thanks guys. My goal was 3.45 but I really wanted a sub 3.30. It was my first 94.7 road race and I was scared of the N14 after hearing a bunch of horror stories. Happy to say I made it. Next year will be a booze cruise with the wife.

Deore is cheaper, a bit heavier and will probably last a fair bit longer. Shifts just as well as SLX. It comes down to 3 things: weight, cost, longevity. Can't have all 3.....
