  1. Will be my official 20th but unofficial 21st (I did one race with the wrong timing chip and although I mailed them my GPX and Garmin files - RaceTec was willing to add my time to their records but the organizers blatantly refused saying it is a disqualification and klaar!) And then: 1 x race had bad crash and had to abandon to go to hospital
  2. This is very vague. On the one point they state: NO BULK COLLECTIONS. The very next point they explain the rules for someone that collects on your behalf. So what is BULK then? More than 10/20?
  3. Is it worth advertising? I have a De Longhi Prima Donna ESAM6600 that has not been used much I want to sell. Perfect working condition. Was around R12K - will sell for around R6k. Worth selling a coffee machine?
  4. Enjoyed the ride thoroughly! I arrived at the venue and wanted to go home badly - it was wet and cold! Yet - decided to ride and despite the rain and wind and YES climbing - it was really good fun!
  5. Oh I have no problem driving down for the beach, ocean, good food and company....oh yeah and some cycling (optional if it rains). Happy to skip and enjoy the time off - I really need it! Been a hectic year so far.
  6. For sure - especially the nice downhills the last 40km's or so - wet roads at that speed ...no tx! Will sit on my stoep, watch the beach having an early braai!
  7. No mail received yet - but if it rains - hmmm....I will likely lie in.
  8. I do not deny the strength and protection that Sapphire offers. It has its benefits. Based on research I did some opinions tabled was that Sapphire screens affects screen brightness as a trade off with the strength it offers. I decided against it, saved money and just purchased a screen protector. It has been scratch free for a year and if it scratches, just peel off and add a new one. But it is a personal choice and the end of the day.
  9. Agree - Garmin is the best. You will get some great specials as the new Garmin range is rumoured to launch between now and possibly 2028 - NOBODY knows but plenty rumours that it might be soon. Just some comments - Saphire glass not worth it - as per Interweb it seemingly darkens display (so they say) - I have normal glass and just purchased a glass screen protector (like cell phone). Fits perfectly - not visible at all (I have Fenix 6x Pro Solar). Still have the first one on and its been scratch free from about 1 year now. Solar Screen - ABSOLUTELY not worth it. Mine has it and if you have it in the sun daily for many hours it adds maybe if few hours to the battery. As per Garmin - it does NOT charge the battery at all - it just helps the battery to drain that little bit slower.
  10. Mailed organizers and got: Will not be racing. Coming down with my MTB and knobbies and will ride with my sister. So to me just a lekka weekend away with a social ride
  11. Hi All - I have checked the AmaShova website and from what I can see the organizers will ONLY require you to fill in a piece of paper called "SELF-SCREENING AND PERSONAL DECLARATION FOR COVID-19". Nowhere does it allude to a compulsory negative test (24 hr prior) or proof of vaccination. On the COVID 19 link at top it refers to the "latest" media press release dated June 2020! I do not think they really keep this website updated. So - just drive down and fill in form and ride?
  12. Trainer will be good as a standalone "roller" for the bike. The issue is: This trainer is a smart trainer that can be fully controlled by a PC. BUT....it is not wireless (i.e. it connects to PC via cable). BUT...the only software as far as I know that supports this trainer is Tacx Trainer Software (TTS4). BUT....the issue is Tacx (now known as Garmin) disabled their servers where you had to register the software in order for it to work. They want to force you to go to their latest and greatest offerings. There used to be a hack in that if you used the software on a PC that had the same PC name as one that was previously registered - you could get it to work. With all this said - it will be a challenge to get it to work as a smart trainer again - but as a standalone roller - sure it will work fine. It's worth? A couple hundred buks maybe. Not sure.
  13. Is that an option? Or just your personal decision?
  14. Says the route is only 73.2km?? That is a crapload of climbing in the first 35km!
  15. Tx! Please let us know if you get a response...any response.
  16. Let's be honest - these are valid reasons - BUT.......not one of them was something that happened this week or last - these reasons, albeit somewhat valid, should have forced an earlier broadcast about the route change. I think they wanted as many entries as possible - hence only communicating this after closing date for entries. This - is what p**** me off!
  17. I was hoping that due to this they would at least offer a transfer to next year - but that would be asking way toooooooo much I guess
  18. It is pretty much! My wife is still trying to calm me down! This was going to be the first time for me doing this - have been cycling for 22 years and have done most - just not this one. Now - I will have to wait until next year (if I am calmed down by then)
  19. I am fuming - think I need to quickly go for a 300km ride - that is the time I will need to calm down! It is utterly shocking and extremely poorly handled. No wonder so many events see entries reducing so quickly. I guess we will see a flood of entries for sale soon
  20. So - just got the mail that the AmaShova organizers deemed it fit to make complete route changes to the event. No more PMB to DBN but just a ride in and around DBN -0 much shorter now as well. Now before I get the usual - it is COVID and this and that and we should expect anything - MY BLOOD IS BOILING! It does not seem to be CV19 related but other reasons! Roadworks etc! I made bookings in PMB - paid for etc etc - booked flights etc etc. Why change things so late!!!! Surely this is (AGAIN) not the best way to handle this. Or is my sudden burst in anger unwarranted? I am now going to try and cancel all bookings and write off my entry!
  21. I agree - a line has to be drawn. But reality is our vaccination rate is still low. If this gets strictly enforced with immediate affect - it may result in low attendance (at lest initially) - just my view. Still not sure how organizers will enforce this - other than demanding you yourself must show up at registration.
  22. Hmmm....saw this posted yesterday. https://www.cyclingsa.com/covid-19-update-mass-participation-events/ So if this is the new norm - we will have events but you can only participate if are fully vaccinated or have a negative test 24 hours prior. How do you enforce this? Will it imply you must show up for race registration? In the past we often had a buddy collecting a whole bunch of numbers (cycling expo's have become a few stalls selling energy drinks). What do you think? I am certainly happy with events more likely now to go ahead - but is it feasible?
  23. Read this (published yesterday): https://www.cyclingsa.com/covid-19-update-mass-participation-events/ Does that change things? So it should go on - but either fully vaccinated ...or...have a test done 24 hours prior
  24. Is it close?????
  25. Uhhhh....the MarQ is still MUCH more expensive - I mean R36k for top model!! Top model F6X Pro R17K and you can get good discount at the moment. (i.e. up to 25% if you bank with Investec). I think the MarQ still has a very small niche market (I will not buy it)
