  1. It is pretty much! My wife is still trying to calm me down! This was going to be the first time for me doing this - have been cycling for 22 years and have done most - just not this one. Now - I will have to wait until next year (if I am calmed down by then)
  2. I am fuming - think I need to quickly go for a 300km ride - that is the time I will need to calm down! It is utterly shocking and extremely poorly handled. No wonder so many events see entries reducing so quickly. I guess we will see a flood of entries for sale soon
  3. So - just got the mail that the AmaShova organizers deemed it fit to make complete route changes to the event. No more PMB to DBN but just a ride in and around DBN -0 much shorter now as well. Now before I get the usual - it is COVID and this and that and we should expect anything - MY BLOOD IS BOILING! It does not seem to be CV19 related but other reasons! Roadworks etc! I made bookings in PMB - paid for etc etc - booked flights etc etc. Why change things so late!!!! Surely this is (AGAIN) not the best way to handle this. Or is my sudden burst in anger unwarranted? I am now going to try and cancel all bookings and write off my entry!
  4. I agree - a line has to be drawn. But reality is our vaccination rate is still low. If this gets strictly enforced with immediate affect - it may result in low attendance (at lest initially) - just my view. Still not sure how organizers will enforce this - other than demanding you yourself must show up at registration.
  5. Hmmm....saw this posted yesterday. https://www.cyclingsa.com/covid-19-update-mass-participation-events/ So if this is the new norm - we will have events but you can only participate if are fully vaccinated or have a negative test 24 hours prior. How do you enforce this? Will it imply you must show up for race registration? In the past we often had a buddy collecting a whole bunch of numbers (cycling expo's have become a few stalls selling energy drinks). What do you think? I am certainly happy with events more likely now to go ahead - but is it feasible?
  6. Read this (published yesterday): https://www.cyclingsa.com/covid-19-update-mass-participation-events/ Does that change things? So it should go on - but either fully vaccinated ...or...have a test done 24 hours prior
  7. Is it close?????
  8. Uhhhh....the MarQ is still MUCH more expensive - I mean R36k for top model!! Top model F6X Pro R17K and you can get good discount at the moment. (i.e. up to 25% if you bank with Investec). I think the MarQ still has a very small niche market (I will not buy it)
  9. Fully agree! With that said - how much can you really improve on the F6 series? It is like cell phones over the last 5+ years - every year is pretty much the same with slightly better camera and other small things. Nothing major. I think (my gut) the F7 will: 1. Be slightly smaller/lighter (form factor only) 2. Slightly better screen resolution (but still transflective memory-in-pixel as with F6) 3. Better sensors (same as Venu 2) 4. OS/Firmware compatible with Connect IQ V4 SDK 5. Possibly with e-sim - but as always the likelihood of that initially working in SA is slim That's all I can think of.
  10. Fully agree and support????
  11. Disagree - I fully appreciate (and use) the features of my F6X. I love the watch and it fulfils all my needs! I have absolutely no issue with this watch. It is a masterpiece and caters for my needs. Just for info - I just sold a brand new Venu 2 on the hub - as it just did not fulfil my requirements and within day one had compatibility issues with my smart indoor trainer. However - I absolutely i) loved the bright clear AMOLED screen and ii) appreciated its sensors being next gen (much better than F6 Series). With that I personally would appreciate if that could be added to the F7 series. I still want the adventure "serious athlete" multidiscipline features. I still want the ruggedness and be able to knock it about. And yes exactly like the F6X still have all the smart watch features that is currently offered. Stating it would be nice if it gets an AMOLED display does not in anyway imply it loses its core value. So no confusion on my side - merely expressing a wish list.
  12. Absolutely agree! Reality is that there are watches for every type of athlete. It is your choice to buy what you want. In my opinion for example - I am unlikely to do a continuous 200 miler event that often. If maybe once a year (Transbaviaans). For that a 10 day battery will suffice. If it is a multiday event - then the ability to charge the watch is not an issue. I believe a 10 day/24 hour activity watch will cover 96% of all activities - but you may be required to charge the watch more often. If that is OK with you - perfect. There will be people that says - hell no! I prefer to charge less - give me 60 hours of activity. With that said I very much doubt if a Fenix 7 with AMOLED only will be released. The public demand for a longer battery (justified or not) is still just too big. If they release one - it will be just be on certain models. However, if I have to follow my gut - I do not even think Garmin will bring out an AMOLED Fenix 7 . It is not their target market - it is more (as you say) intended for more serious adventure athletes - it was just on my wish list - I would like it ????
  13. Saw Mr Froomey advertising this quite a lot - I am not that serious. This device might swear at me after my 3rd coffee stop on a ride ????
  14. Connect IQ4 is the new development platform for their latest Watch OS and screens. I think the Venu 2/2s is their first watch with an OS that supports the V4 development platform. Allows developers to deliver much better looking apps/watch faces with more functionality. All their new watches will support this new DEV platform (think of it as an SDK - for the tech geeks out there) With regards to AMOLED vs battery life - I too very much want proper battery life. For that reason I simply cannot see myself wearing an Apple or Samsung watch that has the most incredible screens and features - yet requires charging every day/perhaps 2. No thank you!!!!! My wife owns a Venu 2s and the screen is just awesome! It is really and i mean really very clear and beautiful. If you can give me a Fenix 7 with AMOLED and a battery that lasts 10-days (with some exercise sessions included) - that suits me just fine. Whether I charge every 10 days or 21 days - nothing major for me. I have never ever seen my Fenix 6x to give me a Pulse Ox value higher than 92/93%. I am not worried but using a medical device I always measure around 96/97%. With my wife's Venu 2s - same accurate value.
  15. Hmmm- I have a Fenix 6X Pro Solar and YES YES YES - it is phenomenal. There is not a thing this watch cannot do. BUUUUUUT...my wish list for Fenix 7: 1. AMOLED display - does not have to be touch screen (in fact prefer buttons whilst training). So the same watch same features (very important) just AMOLED. If it takes battery life down from 21 days to say 8 - I am happy! 2. Slightly smaller/less weight - by smaller I mean only watch form factor - NOT THE SCREEN! The bigger the better ???? 3. Better Pulse Ox - Tested many different devices and the Fenix 6x Pulse Ox is always about 3% - 4% under actual value. I tested the new Venu 2 and it is SPOT ON! I suspect Fenix 7 will have new Sensor at back similar to Venu 2 4. EKG and/or Blood pressure - I am 50/50 on this one but will be a nice to have 5. Support for Connect IQ V4 development - I think this will be a given though! 6. I will not buy Solar again - that is a waste! Makes no real difference. What else would you like top see on Fenix 7? Give me 1,2 & 3 and I will buy it immediately! Rumours are all over but as to when the Fenix 7 is being released - no one seems to know as they are late already
  16. Yikes! Like in stolen from the truck transporting it? That would be a first!
  17. Yes TB seems to be going ahead...but how feasible is it if you ask about 20% of the field to plan to pull of at 10PM, find shelter somehow and sleep until 4AM, continue and still get the finishers medal. I feel sorry for the organisers...I DO!! I am still a 2020 victim and asked for an entry for 2022. But to pull off at 10PM - where do you cut off riders along the route? Staff at water points? Does it not somehow feel like desperation knowing that the business affectively can no longer afford for it not to happen. And by putting this alternative on the table - is it not more to the detriment of the rider than the organiser?
  18. Homepage - EpicSports Online Store Bought my Lefty there - not sure if they service shock or send it in - OB (mechanic) is pretty good!
  19. Budget not mentioned - I have Jabra Elite 85t - Holy Mothers!! Sound is incredible, comfortable on the ear (very important), works well with all devices (also has touch control on the earbuds) and battery life very good! I can recommend them! A note though -once snug in the ear and ANC is switched on, it works VERY well and outside sounds very well blocked. You will hear a car honking and loud-ish sounds but general noise blocked. You can disbale ANC or even better - enable passthrough - then outside sounds actually gets played in the ear. Very important to me are earbuds that are sweatproof and these are.

Could not agree more - using NordVPN and watching the Tour of the Alps as I am typing this. Perfect quality - could not be happier! Ok I am lying - if Chris Froom was only doing a bit better I would be even more happier. Ah well - love all the cycling!!
  22. Awesome feedback and quite comprehensive! Well done. Not wanting to digress from the importance of supporting Cois - I have used Tacx Desktop App, Rouvy, Zwift and Fulgaz quite extensively. I am now set on FulGaz. It has a family plan (2 users I think) and the rides/videos are really GOOD! I stream most of the time at 4K - no issues (ok I have fast fibre connection - sorry!) Many of us (well me specifically) just do not have a ton of time to go out on the road so an indoor ride is the perfect alternative. When one just wants to go for a 90 minute ride, do not care about coaching, not too fussed if power readings are not 100% accurate, don't want to listen to some buddy in the background giving comments etc - FulGaz is perfect. I ride Bluetooth and have not had ONE disconnect ever. I ride against myself so all the bells and whistles does not matter to me - I am sure many others will want this - I don't. I just want to ride and measure myself. And FulGaz fits the bill! Literally hundreds of videos all over the world. And their support is awesome (mailed them tons of times). Back to Cois - all the best and thinking of you a lot!
  23. Cool - but was planning to watch on GCN+ anyway - perfect alternative to the garbage DSTV dishes out daily at a gezillionth of the price. Since it is ad free - No Marriot ad every 3 minutes - I might just still do that

The whole issue on VPN is confusing the *** out of me. That can be a debate on its own. I am considering opening a topic just on VPN and related questions as it is coming up more and more. I have a few questions that I am just not getting answers on - not even via interweb - and I do consider myself quite IT literate - just not necessarily when it comes to networking

Ok - I made the jump - just subscribed to GCN (my luck missing the special - but 1-Year subscription still less than 1-Month of DSTV). On my tablet (iPad) (slight disappointment) it is just a mobile phone view, i.e. it is just a mobile app. You cannot get full screen video. On my phone - looks beautiful. Went to telly and via Airplay just played the live streaming on my telly - worked perfectly! And it is looking good! 1080P. So I am really satisfied. Just wish I could get tablet to go full screen.
