  1. Add the beers you owe me to that list The upside is that I'll give you one to take home with you and see if that lubes you up well enough, no confirmation or detail required thereof...
  2. I was hoping to get in there, had my entry in the day they opened. However, I met up with my doctor today RE: a little issue regarding my ankle that I fractured 8 weeks ago and the bone has failed to knit. So, it's off to surgery next Friday for a bone graft and a plate. There goes my Walkerville ride...
  3. I bought a cycle computer from them some time ago. When I opened the box, the unit did not work. So, I called them and told them this, they mentioned that it was probably the battery and I should replace it. They then said, if I did not want to try that, I should send it back for a full refund as well as a refund of the cost of the postage. If I did decide to try the battery, I was told to send them the bill for the battery and they'd refund me the cost. F~ck ups happen, it's how they're fixed that makes the difference. The postage system has been under strain for weeks due to past strikes, cut them some slack on the timing for that reason. These guys are super eager to help out in these cases, engage them and see what happens. If you're happy or not, let us know either way!
  4. Apart from the obvious, have a look at the tennis ball on the strings here...
  5. It's to stop the bugs getting in the mouth at high speeds.
  6. I got into cycling when a mate of mine who I had not seen in a while came up from to ride the 94.7 one year and having supper with him one night his first words were "f~ck, but you've gotten fat." Bike was bought and paid for within a week Never looked back, it's been three years now... thanks to painfully honest mates.
  7. I bought one of those about two months ago, loving it. Now to stash away some cash for a few more lenses :-)
  8. Garmin Edge 510 Performance Bundle - just ordered, expect delivery within a few days.
  9. The bike weighs 7.2kg as is. Costs £1,250. I have a set of Dura-Ace Carbon wheels I'm planning on putting on this thing, should end up being a nice bike (I hope). Especially considering the fact that I'll be using it sparingly.
  10. I see these guys do a 27.5"er. Weren't we (The Hub) collectively lambasted a while back for calling it that?
  11. Looking at the Planet X RT58 SRAM Force Carbon Sportive. No existing road bike to butcher. This is my first road bike as I'm starting to do a few tri's and thought I needed the propper bike. Also figured I'd leave the dirt on occasion and try the black stuff.
  12. I am in the market for a road bike and am looking overseas and locally. I had a look at Planet X and the bikes look quite good. Any opinions or first hand experience with this brand would be welcome.
  13. Just clothes line the roadies on the way past?
  14. Or to yourself if you are one of the offenders?
  15. I ran the Soweto Marathon last year and needed my usual pre-race bog visit. Luckily it was the light version. However, when hopping off into the veld I noticed that more than 50 runners were squatting in the veld next to the start, each with a roll of bog paper, having a cr~p. The smell was vile, never mind the fact that one needed to watch their step very carefully. Never had that problem at a bike race, at least there are porta potties at those.
  16. What a weird thing, I would have thought that all natural waste would have been acceptable. Looks like I'm going to land up with a few banana peels in my laundry? What about the little blighters living under the rock. I'm sure they'd disagree with the thought of cohabiting with your waste for two years.
  17. How about those brake discs
  18. It's not easy to organise even a small event, I think an admin fee would make the serial substitutors think twice before getting anyone to take someones place without thinking it through.
  19. With respect, both times they've done this race the medals were the same. They are very generic and do not even carry the year on it. the only thing they may change every year is the color of the ribbon. as for food, they have sponsors who take unused stock back with them. As I said in an earlier post, I forfeited my 70.3 entry due to the fact that personal obligations precluded me from participating and I did not feel entitled to any compensation for it, I don't recall how close to the race I knew I would need to withdraw, but it was around six weeks. I am well aware of the costs associated with staging these events. Having participated in more than one, I can also vouch for the exceptional level of organisation and effort that goes into them. I am however over 10 weeks away from the event and I'm sure there are still some who will enter after today, I do not think I'm costing them anything by not being there or getting my money back. For the record, if my doctor wasn't so insistent that I do not race, I'd still be making plans to get to Bela Bela in August!
  20. Fair enough, many would try anything to get this sorted out, however, I offered copies of x-rays (there were 4 sets available - taken 1 week apart) and the orthopedic surgeon said he would provide me with a clinical justification, in writing, as to why he believed it would be detrimental to my injury if I participated. I'm also not even trying to get my money back, I just want to race a different event.
  21. You must remember that these races go off without a hitch 99 times out of 100. These guys do a phenomenal job making sure that we race safe. I also do not disagree with the withdrawal policy to be frank. But my issue is that I am not able to participate due to a medical condition and therefore feel that some sort of concession should be made. I did not even ask for a refund but rather a substitution to another event organised by the same guys. They probably realise that I'm going to enter later on in the year anyway and so why not get a double entry fee?
  22. I fully understand the fact that dropping out for "any old reason" should not entitle one to refunds etc. It is for this reason that I did not try and pursue any compensation for my failure to participate in the 70.3 this year, although it was not entirely due to my lack of adequate preparation. I do however think that having been advised by my doctor against participating at Bela Bela, that I should be entitled to transfer my entry to the Germiston event. If I fail to get that one right, then it's my problem, but now I'm paying R600 (after the small refund coming my way) and another R800 for the later event. I'm starting to feel like I'm in the wrong business.
