  1. I booked and had all the extras taken out. I already have a CSA license and a chip which is still valid (they're permanent I've used mine for a few races).
  2. Some say she does the same training routine/routes as the guys who do The Roof of Africa Rally...
  3. This year was pretty crappy weather and the water was fine. Did a 34min swim and no problem with the water temp. I've done a few, sometimes with not even being able to see the other side due to fog etc. I've never felt like I would have needed a wetsuit before, great race, only draw back is the traffic in the water, but it's not a train smash. Love the event, well organised and loads of fun. Doing 70.3 next year, so may skip Midmar, but planning to be back the following year. I've done around 4 or 5 I think, can't find my medals etc.
  4. Terry, From my side, I should be thanking you. Your assistance and speed thereof was unrivaled. +10000000 to you and your company. J
  5. I'm there, see you then. Just got my wetsuit, so keen to try it out.
  6. Can't remember, I bought my pair at last year's Walkerville MTB race and rode with contacts up until then. Dust was a problem. Got the glasses on special (SWIFTYS) I think they were around R900 after taking their voucher into account (came with the race number). I can't even remember what the prescription was, medical aid paid for that, so I didn't really take notice of the cost
  7. Definitely the Rudy Project photochromic lenses. I bought mine and had them done by my optometrist. Bonus is that replacement lenses are quite cheap, so when your prescription changes, you just go buy new lenses and get them done again. I ride early mornings during winter, so the photochromic lenses are the best option, no need to keep changing them out. They're also strong, I've sat on mine a few times and to be honest, I'm not as light as I should be given the amount of exercise I do. They haven't broken yet!
  8. Thule Cedar Square is also tops. Seems these guys have the right people working for them. Thumbs up Thule.
  9. Did 1500m in 35mins the other day, I like to think I could break 30mins in open water (no turns, breaks etc.) I'd be happy with those times. I'm no pro tho.
  10. I am a mountain goat at heart, but I have entered a few triathlons that require a road bike. My budget is around R7,000-R8,000 maximum and I'm at a loss as to what to buy. Any ideas on what provides the best value for money in this price range would be of enormous assistance. Jigghead.
  11. Same here, I got notified the day my auction ended. Paid and sent proof straight away and received my goods before lunch the following day. It's my second pair of Rudy Project sunnies and I'll never buy anything else. It's 'cause of ASG!
  12. I've had quite a few citis, great little cars. Even when I bought them new, they were never very fuel efficient, I think i used to get around 400km to the tank (55l if I remember correctly) Bear in mind that if it's a 1998 model, you're not likely to get the same consumption as you would have when it was new. also, i found that if it was parked in the sun it would "loose" fuel for obvious reasons and would go through it a lot quicker as well. I remember the 1300 needing to be revved quite hard in order to get much performance out of them, so this could be a factor as well. If it's the 4spd, this is aggravated even further. I drove the 4 & 5 spd models and always had an empty tank, could have been the fact that i was also a student and was often carrying plenty of mates around. The extra load probably didn't help either.
  13. Depends, if it's Cajee's wearing the rubber, you'd want Durex I suppose. Do they make a 29"er?
  14. I was there on Friday for some shorts. Got good service, not sure of the price comparison, but the service was very good. I'm glad we're getting some more retailers into cycling the fold here (in Fourways). For a quick in and out in Fourways, we only really have Cajee's and Cycle Lab. So for the day to day stuff, I hope SW keeps it going and comes to the party. Big up for trying, hope it works. BTW, everyone was wearing black Livestrong T's...
  15. My first, Monster in any form. Did the 70km and thought I was in good shape. Cramped up @ 28km mark and it didn't let up until a fella named Willem gave me some of his potion (magnesium) took 10 mins and it mostly disappeared enough to bear with the pain. He even stayed with me for a few k's afterwards offering some hugely needed encouragement. What a champ, thank you. What strikes me on these rides is the fact that everyone who passed me while I was in pain on the side of the course offered some sort of assistance. This doesn't happen on the road rides, not even for punctures. One of the many reasons why I love this sport. Cycle computer says I did 5h16 riding time, while I ended with an official time of 5h54, so that's 40 or so mins fixing my legs and having some refreshments along the way. Very happy with the official time though. Next year my hard tail 26'er will need to make way for some bigger wheels. But I'll definitely be back. Thanks again for all offers of help.
  16. Argh, when in April is the next one, I'm keen to make this a monthly event. Is it always the last Friday of the month?
  17. Hi, Ride the spruit fairly often and have also been uncomfortable with the inhabitants between Witkoppen and William Nicol, where else is there to ride appart from Northern Farms etc. At this rate, dare I say it, the road is a safer option
  18. Right, so it's been a while since this thread looked like dying, anyone tried it for longer period? There's now anew Garmin out there and I'm even more confused. I really like the Polar and can't decide which would be better all round. Any ideas?
  19. Anyone else thinking of ordering? I've got an order for R2.7K. In JHB.
  20. I have two entries going wanting, I was going to do it with my wife, but we are not going to make it down there. PM me if you want them/one...
  21. I've ordered a few times from CRC, only one hassle. I ordered a Polar CS600x cycle computer with some extras, when it arrived, it failed to start up. I called and they very politely pointed out that my blonde hair was at work and the battery was possibly the problem. I went and replaced the battery and all worked. CRC offered to refund me the cost of the battery. They also offered, if I was not happy with that arrangement, to let me ship the unit back to them for a full refund as well as a refund of the cost of shipping back to them. This was all no questions asked. As far as I’m concerned, problems happen, that’s not the issue. The issue is how they’re dealt with, and these guys did a great job.
