  1. I always used to use powerade and it was ok. Last year during amashova I stopped halfway to refill at a USN water point and they had some proper stuff - it made a huge difference, it must be almost like how Contador feel after some spanish steak. Never gone back to powerade unless I am far away from home and need to raid a garage shop. I also tried that 69GI stuff and also was reduced to newborn lamb status after 50k. Having said that - different things work for different people so try different things in training and find what works for you.
  2. That rock garden had two lines - as the rider approached it - safe to left fast & risky to right. The full sussers & 29ers did not seem to handle the right side line any better than the 26er hartdtais. The top guys & girls on the 26 hard tails seemed to be able to float the rear tyre over the rocks by using their front brakes and / or weight shift. The guys on the 29ers & full sussers seemed to lose it because they were relying more on the bike as opposed to their skill and did not pick their lines as carefully - just my impression. The Zaskar riders just appeared to be the most well balanced through the rock garden. Btw I don't ride a Zaskar, but after watching them cruise through that rock garden with ease, I am on the lookout for one! The two most spectacular crashes were both specialised - one a full susser, the other sadly Burry on his spez 29er.
  3. With it being easter I am surprised we are not being told that the only way to heaven is on a 29er.
  4. Stirring further - Would Burry have crashed if he was on a 26er? I was at the rock garden and saw all types of bikes crashing including full suspension, 29ers and 26ers - interesting the one bike I saw that hardly ever hit the dirt was the GT zaskar - but again they were not exactly on the front either sadly!
  5. Hi Mr Look, thanks for the socks & catalogue! All arrived quickly and in good order & they are great - cheap at the price!
  6. you can also mix it to make a recovery drink as well, I find I recover better from a training ride with futurelife as opposed to pronutro, all cereals are now becoming expensive sadly.
  7. Hi Mr LOOK, Please put me down for a white pair - I need them to go with my LOOK KG 481SL.
  8. A more recent one: F_R_A_I_L 's wig https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/101382-misplaced-wig-found-thanks/
  9. thats precisely why they were slowing me down on single track through the forest....
  10. Perhaps COSATU would have more credibility if they took on serious matters like the widespread electoral fraud that has been going on with busloads of people registering with false addresses in area's outside their own (read DA area's) and why the IEC fails to do anything about it. So hard not to be cynical about politics in SA.
  11. I was bold & broke the rule and had them when I had a riser bar - but found that the riser bars were slowing me down on forest single track & the bar ends made them feel even more like a barn door. Took them off, put on a kcnc flat bar, no bar ends now, don't miss them at all. I think - just my own personal opinion, that they do look cool on whatever bars and if they work for you then that is great - btw i was told by a former pro cyclist that she vould not climb properly without them as they gave her better leverage. Not been my experience, but then we are all different so what works for one may not work for the next.
  12. Apologies if this is old news but it appears to be for real and not a late April fools joke http://www.politicsweb.co.za/politicsweb/view/politicsweb/en/page71654?oid=230620&sn=Detail&pid=71616
  13. Great ride but not sure the orginastion was so good - gripes: parking was chaos; almost no rubbish bins; for entry fee of R200 no goody bag, cheap medal & they had very few large shirts mainly small and xxsmall - this despite ROAG knowing from their databse most pre-entrants sizes I was told by the people handing out the shirt tokens that they would order the right size - when I got to the shirt people I was told that no this is not the case but would I please write to the organizers to complain because they were embarrased for them! , poor marking on the course - guys on 60k got lost, I did 40 k and sometimes had to guess the way - I have done two before and the kk trailblazer so could make an educated guess, start area was chaos - seriously why narrow the only access to the start batches by putting up a big tent there?; only saw two medics on the 40k course - in those conditions surely more would have been a good idea?; the singletrack was not as manicured as it was in previous years - although I concede the heavy prior rains played a big part in this, seriously if they want to retain the UCI status they are going to have to up their game; the water tables only had coke & water - for such high entry fee's could they not have laid on some usn or even powerade? Gripes aside the trails were awesome the weather perfect, the riders friendly, but in future I may just pay R20 and ride the same trails all day outside of the kk classic!
  14. On the trainer the other day I looked at my bottom bracket area and was really shocked at how much movement there was there. It appeared that with the rear axle being held rigid there was a lot of torsion on the rear stays which was side to side - I am not an expert but I am not sure that frames are designed with that in mind - again I am not an expert but have a look at how much movement there is next time you are on the trainer.
  15. Mine are pretty strong - hit a rock hard and with a bit of pace - hard enough to cause half a somersault over the bars and the front rim did not even need truing - I am about 80 odd kgs
  16. I would love to eat humble pie on this one.... Hijack on: "@Team_Bonitas: Rabie wins stage 1 of the Tour du Maroc!" - At least our cyclists have salvaged national pride today! Awesome result! Hijack off.
  17. Loss of 6 wickets for 38 runs = maybe one of their biggest chokes to date
  18. you might not be shot for your bike but bike theft is a huge problem over there so don't let your guard down. BTW - England has a huge amount of low level crime such as thefts, assaults etc and pretty big drug problems and social problems with the "yoofs" (youths). Saffers often end up as victims because they let their guards down and don't expect crime over there. I lived there for five years. On the bright side they have a cycle to work scheme which subsidises the purchase of a bike - not sure if it only applies to UK citizens though.
  19. IMO i think its a brilliant idea, almost every single day on my way to & from work I have about 2 or 3 close calls - often because of people changing lanes without either looking or indicating and / or because of inconsiderate, negligent and reckless driving - I drive a defender so its not as if its invisible! Also every week we have posts on the hub about another cyclist being killed on the road. Clearly the traffic authorities are only interested in rasing revenue and not making the roads a safer place so any intitiative to try and make the roads safer should be welcomed and supported.
  20. Maybe the Borat guy used it to preserve his modesty?
  21. I am also new to road cycling - best thing I have done so far is to join a club - the guys are really willing to help newbies and have tons of experience which they are very happy to share. Sort of like the Hub but actually cycling next to you. Club rides will also give you experience of group riding and motivation to train.
  22. also my first race with racetec (and also new to road cycling so not much opportunity yet to do seeding races) so also stuck in OC - traffic also did my head in - having to keep applying brakes going up suikerbossie was a particular low light - and I am a slow climber - but hey I had a great time and know now how important it is to get a decent seeding to escape the traffic
  23. RIP unknown cyclist and all condolences to the family, maybe all of us doing the Argus should wear a black band on our sleeves in memory of all the cyclists killed on the road and to call attention to all the deaths of cyclists. I was almost taken out by a taxi this morning turning in front of me at an intersection, he saw me and still turned. Despite an invitation to stop and discuss the matter, the taxi driver continued on. Perhaps I should have expressed the invitation in politer terms.
  24. yip. The definition of an unfair business practice: "1. “Unfair business practice“ means inertia selling. Inertia selling is the business practice whereby goods and services are supplied to consumers without their unequivocal authorization and the supplier subsequently demands or effects payment." the key words are "unequivocal authorization". This is not the same as being "interested in receiving photographs" which Actionphot seems to assume - in their pecuniary favour of course - means "unequivocal authorisation. I must say though after my last run in with them I have never agains been sent phot's with the expectation that I pay for them. My objection apart from the "scam" element, was also that if I do want to buy them, I prefer digital format as opposed to actual photo's as the digital format is much more versatile.
