  1. I presume you've contacted the various clubs around Gauteng? Most of them have pretty set routes that they use often. For example: http://www.crestawheelers.co.za/ClubRides.htm
  2. A not too subtle reference to another word that also begins with 'k'.
  3. If you could show that you had some good sport science qualifications and background that gives you an understanding of the theory behind coaching etc. I would choose you over an unqualified pro any day. A good coach will give me a program based on what works for me. There's a good chance that a pro who's had no coaching training, aside from their own experience of being coached themselves, will only be able to give me a program based on what worked for them.
  4. Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford, UK this weekend http://www.flickr.co...@N00/7555039578
  5. The calculated result gives you the distance from the flange hole to the ERD of an unloaded rim. The spokes you measured were untensioned. In reality, once you tension the wheel, the spokes stretch, lengthening them and the rim compresses, reducing the diameter. This is why you generally knock a millimetre or two off the calculated length to get actual cut length.
  6. Depending how you interpret ML, that's a either a rather small teaspoon or an Olympic-size swimming pool's worth of beer.
  7. I'm still keen (as long as it's not raining). I plan to get to the gate before 7 and start riding around 7:15 (or however long after 7 it takes to park and set up). The Strava segment RoboCyclist linked to on the first page is the full 57km grid-grid lap, including both small and large loops.
  8. I'd be quite keen for a SBR ride on Sunday.
  9. It's funny you mention Specialized - they're one of the few companies that does actually have demo saddles (at least in Joburg).
  10. From the site: Inspired by Lance Armstrong who suggested Honey Stinger produce their own version of similar waffles which are sold throughout Europe and eaten by professional cyclists. Honey Stinger Organic Waffles are the only product of their kind thats certified organic. The European version are known as Stroopwafels (Syrup waffles). Here's a topic on where to find them locally: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/108125-where-can-i-find-stroopwafels/page__hl__stroopwafels+__fromsearch__1
  11. What TheV said is correct. The only potential spanner in the works is if SARS thinks the value of the item has been under-declared e.g. you paid R500, but the shipper 'generously' decides to declare it as being valued at R5 and SARS thinks this value is suspect. CRC etc. will not under-declare items, but eBay sellers are usually a bit less scrupulous in this regard.
  12. Did you also ask how many Windows machines there are in the group and how many Macs there are?
  13. Between two points. If I want to analyse a specific climb, for example, I can't do it unless I pressed the lap button during the ride, at the start and finish of the climb.
  14. That wouldn't really work for a looped course since start and finish are the same, giving a zero net elevation. The method for calculating the exact elevation gains of a profile depends on smoothing algorithms etc., but the principal is basically: Course starts and finishes at 1000m and has one hill that goes to 1800m (800m) = 800m of elevation Course starts and finishes at 1000m, has one hill that goes to 1500m (500m), goes back to 1000m and then has another hill that goes to 1200m (200m) = 700m of elevation Course starts and finishes at 1000m, has one hill that goes to 1400m (400m), goes down to 900m, then has another hill that goes to 1200m (300m), goes down to 1100m and then up to 1300m (200m)= 900m of elevation etc. The complicated part comes in deciding how big an elevation change has to be before including it in the total.
  15. Aren't you confusing GC with Power Agent (the Cycle-Ops software)?
  16. We should petition DC Rainmaker to do some Bryton reviews.
  17. Thanks for the ride, everyone. Mooky, did you find your keys?

    Loctite

Yip, and most hardware stores only sell the generic Pratlok purple or red (and green if you're lucky).
  19. I wonder what the robot's average time is, though. The average time for the fastest human (same guy who set the fastest time) is about 7.5s according to Wikipedia. Edit: the machine's average time is 5.2s and its unofficial best time is 4.8s. http://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/Robots

    Loctite

RS Components have Loctite. They're a bit pricey, but you can order online and shipping is free in some cases. They're also one of the few places that have actual Loctite, rather than generic blue, generic purple etc.
  21. So, is the plan to meet in the main car park tomorrow at 7 or as soon after the gates open as possible?
  22. ...and I have proof Edit: that comment's a bit ambiguous. I have no proof of Pieter1's claim. I was already light years ahead in the Falcon. I just have proof in general.
  23. About a year and a half, but could be quicker. Beginning of 2008, I started training with a lot more focus. I was racing E/F group and placing in the top twenty of the group. In Sep-Nov '08 I was seeded in A for some of the smaller races and B/C for the larger races. Beginning of '09 I was seeded in A for most races. You could make it much quicker if you ask the organisers for a reseed based on results from earlier in the season. You'd have to pay a fee for 94.7 and Argus, though.
  24. When I was riding A-bunch, I managed to average 27+km/h around Suikerbosrand by myself on a steel bike. The rest of A Bunch were still faster than me in that season. Edit: Those were the only rides I managed to do where I didn't have to stop for traffic lights, stop streets etc. Those really kill your average speed.
