  1. You might need a crank extractor: http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/crank-removal-installation-isis-drive-or-octalink
  2. Is see Quarq have finally launched an Android version of their Qalvin app. Useful if you want to calibrate your PM or do basic error checking. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quarq.qalvin&hl=en (only works on ANT+ enabled Android phones)
  3. ...
  4. Unless it's an ultra-distance event (in which case, the night before is too late), just eat what you'd eat the night before any other ride and make sure you have a good breakfast. The only restriction would be to stay away from anything that might disrupt your sleep or give you an upset stomach the next day.
  5. Most FEM users don't really need to (and a fair number of them don't) know the detailed maths behind the programs they use. You do, however, need a good understanding of structural mechanics which does still require an understanding of maths.
  6. The 9sp and 10sp wheels are identical. The only difference is that the 10sp assembly uses a slightly thinner spacer plate making it 8.4mm wide vs. 8.8mm for 9sp. 10sp Record RDs with a carbon cage actually use 9sp pulley assemblies.
  7. All Campag 9sp and 10sp RDs, between 2001 and 2008, had the same lever arm lengths. The shift distance was controlled by the ergo lever. So long as shifter and cassette matched everything would work perfectly. http://www.campagnolo.com/repository/documenti/en/spares01-A.pdf http://www.ctc.org.u...aspx?TabID=3946
  8. Probably. It depends on the year model of the shifter. Edit: you can also get spares at www.bike24.com
  9. Look at it this way, there's a 50% chance that, at some point between 6:00 and 12:00, somewhere in the Bloemfontein area, there will be between 0 and 10mm of rain. Or, in other words, there's a 50% chance that there will no rain anywhere in Bloem in the morning. I wouldn't be worried about rain. The wind looks daunting, though.
  10. Merthiolate spray. We used to use it for rowing, it burns like hell and dries everything quickly.
  11. It's worth a try. You've got nothing to lose. They should tell you what group they can reseed you into and then you can decide whether or not to go ahead with it.
  12. Is anyone looking for a lift from Joburg or got space going free for this weekend? I'm not so keen to drive all the way by myself.
  13. Contacts details from the site: Wimpie(dot)vanNiekerk(at)arcelormittal(dot)com
  14. Does anyone know if we can collect our numbers at the venue tomorrow morning? I had a bit of date confusion and forgot to collect mine yesterday .
  15. Some more benefits of a credit card: - If you charge all your expenses to the CC, the monthly statement makes it very easy to track those expenses. - You can earn loyalty rewards. - You get extra protection in the form of chargebacks etc. Just look at the whole Velvet Sky thing: those who paid by card were able to get their money back from their banks, while those who paid cash had to rely on the goodwill of Computicket or worse.

It is possible on a normal bike, but you need to be extremely strong. I know a guy who got sub 2:40 from group PP a few years ago. At the time, he was contending for an Olympic place in his sport.
  17. What's your RPE for the ride? Does it feel like an easy L2 ride? If so, it might be that your max HR is incorrect. How was it determined? There is also quite a lot of literature indication that power at LT is not necessarily the same as FTP. It's your Functional threshold power i.e. what you're able to actually achieve over one hour: you may not actually be able to sustain your LT power for the long duration, in which case your FTP will be lower. Who gave you the program? What are their thoughts on this?
  18. Credit card, paid in full every month. I suppose that counts as cash.
  19. Wouldn't this be a major contributing factor? Why did you stop riding for a whole year? Did you do anything else in that time?
  20. I think I'll do this one.
  21. I think it's because the level of engineering required is a lot more than people think. You see a lot of companies coming out with ideas for sub-$1000 power meters and then, as they start to go deeper into the problem, the expected prices start rising and the delivery date keeps on getting pushed out. Look at what's happened to the Garmin/Metrigear pedals as an example.
  22. Done. I've put them into sortable tables I've included both old and new file formats in the zip. SpokeCalc.zip
  23. Yip. Added a couple of confirmation dialogs and improved the range handling in Excel. The basic functionality is the same. The original spreadsheet is Damian Rinard's Spokecalc.xls and I just improved the VBA code. I've got no problem sharing the macro code and I'm pretty sure JB won't mind sharing his measurements, but I won't make that call on his behalf.
  24. That's the one I use. I wrote a slightly updated version for JB to improve the automation and add some error checking. If he's OK with it, I'll upload it here (it's got a whole lot of measurements he's taken personally which is why I won't upload without his say-so).
