  1. I thought nearly all disk brakes where sold in pairs, not sure how you are going to source only a rear one...

  3. Im taking a guess of a price around R2.5K for reasonable disk brakes, the problem is can your hubs fit disk rotors... if you have to get new hubs or wheel set then its going to be a bit more expensive.

  5. wow i cant believe the rolling resistance difference is so large, doing an extra 10watts an entire race than the person next to you is a fair amount. I would've thought the small block eight tyres would've had a lower rolling resistance as they have a very shallow small nobblies and are more for hard pack. Kenda karmas as well, they are not designed to have a very good rolling resistance yet still have an unsuspectedly high one, their knobblies are fairly shallow and not so much like mud tyres such as the jones mud X. I'll post a picture when i find one of the Kenda Karmas.
  6. hmm... so marathons dont seem to be that big of a part of training, more of a show of how far you are with your training. I have swim open water in the sea a few times and don't get sea sick but do get a bit nervous when the water is about 20m deep (big things move down there)... A friend of mine has done a 12hr time so I want to try and match it.
  7. Thanks guys I'm definitely going to make sure my swim technique is right, this seems far more important than I would've thought. I also did intend on doing about two marathons before Iron man but there doesn't seem to actually be too many of them around.
  8. I'm going to wait till the start of next year before looking at getting a coach.I'm planning on just building up my running and swimming for longer distances untill then. Are there any triathlete shops in gauteng, like the sandton/fourways kinda region that you can get swimming wetsuits and other triathlete equipment from?
  9. Thanks Afreek The last time I did a 180km ride was at the end of Jan as a LSD, it took me 6hrs comfortably, so i'm not very worried about the bike. I haven't run full distance marathons before but my running for shorter distances is fairly strong, just my swimming will take some work. I'm really just trying to get an idea of the number of hours a week per discipline I need to put in, before winter I was doing 13-15hrs a week on the bike. But I'm not sure of what I must be doing for run and swim.
  10. Hi All I've decided to start doing triathlons whith an ultimate goal of doing the ironman next year. I'm going to need to get a swimming wetsuit for those colder swims, what is a good make, price (are there different types of swimming wetsuits?) for one? I'm sure a few hubbers did the ironman this year, how many hours would I need to do for swimming and running a week with about a 12hr time in mind? Thanks
  11. I've come across many tyres doing that which ARE TUBELESS tyres aswell, often it has been when a lot of riding has been done on the wheel set and the tyres havn't been taken off in a long time. I've found using soapy water helps get them off easier, try a metal tyre lever if you've broken you're 5th plastic one and are getting desperate.
  12. something similar happened to me except I got them to replace the other wheel as well, it is not acceptable for them to give you the wrong colour wheel and tell you to just accept it.

does anyone know if the gear shifting ratios in sram red are the same as shimano i.e can you use sram shifters with shimano derailers (or is it the same as with their mtb stuff where you can only use a shimano front derailer with sram shifters)?
  14. I dont think it makes any practical difference ...unless you plan on trying to ride up walls with that gearing...
  15. Insired by your article I tried the ghetto form of tubless system. I used non-UST tyres, stan sealant, 20'' Shrader valve tubes and tape. I found it's really easy to do. It took me an hour to do, most of which time was taken up cutting the excess tube around the rim after having put the tyre on. I did have use of a compressor without which I dont beleive I could've gotten the tyres to seal. I have now been riding it for a week and a half I think without any problems!
  16. Those are EC70 wheels aren't they? Awesome bike by the way!!!
  17. Are there any other Hubbers who've been able to try different carbon deep section wheels and can also comment? I'm not so sure it makes such a big difference but have never ridden deep sections either.
  18. Do yourself a favour and get one of these I got myself one a few weeks back now and am very pleased with it, its a pretty stiff frame and reasonably light. You should be able to get a 7.5 kg bike without dura ace. Mine is 8 kg with 105 still on it and Easton EA 90 SLX wheels.
  19. do you distribute specialized
  20. Hi Hubbers Im going to be doing a 4 day stage race and would like some tips on how best to recover. Any products, supplements or exercises to do/use afterwards that you've found aid in recovery.
  21. Specialized rocks!!!
  22. Did anything come of the idea of doing criterium racing at kayalami a while back? I'm sure that would receive a lot of support.
  23. I must say it is nice having light racing wheels etc. etc. but buckstopper is right just training an extra 3 or 4 hrs a week extra will make the biggest difference. I notice no difference in my riding if my weight increases or decreases by like 2kg.
