  1. rain is not a problem for me , in fact give me rain over the the heat and wind.
  2. i see all the top finishers take part in the Lb Linea series where 160 k's in the wind is the norm. big up to all the starters who got out of bed and hearing that wind, driving all the way out to the start knowing that it's goin to be a hard day in the saddle. well done all.
  3. events towards argus seeding is just marketing hype to get more people to ride. your argus time from the previous year is sufficient and u don't event have to be a ppa member.
  4. agree , take them on , clear the air. agree to disagree, whatever. then you will be at peace with yourself
  5. Mtb'ers - 'space cadets' on overpriced toys
  6. so you didn't get elected! Who is we ? if you feel so bad about wasting CSA money you pay for the trip then! if you really want to help the youth , get involved in your area - that is where the action takes place - don't worry about national bodies, they just a bunch of fat old men talking ****.
  7. committee might be passionate about the sport but they need to motivate the office staff to be more proactive.
  8. the money made from funrides are donated to charities - no profits from these events is channelled back to cycling. it is one of the criteria for hosting a cycling event, u must name your charity.
  9. name?
  10. "Dear league rider We have unexpectedly run into problems regarding the 2013 PPA Spring league, with two Spring road funrides informing us within the last week that they are either having to cancel the event or are unable to host a league event. This left only three league events for the Spring series. In addition, while we have received tacit approval approval from Western Cape Cycling that they will support sanction PPA’s leagues, we expect final resolution between PPA and CSA to be reached only during September - after the date of the first road funride of the season. We regret to say that there will therefore not be a 2013 PPA Spring league series, although seeded category riding racing will always, be offered at the funrides. However, the good news is that the league events for Summer 2014 have been confirmed, being: - Tour de PPA (19 Jan 2014) - Bouckaert-Soenen (26 Jan 2014) - Medallion Tour de Stellenbosch (16 Feb 2014) (still only three events) - Depending on the road works in the Southern Suburbs, another funride will be added to the 2014 leagues calendar, alternatively a criterium will be held (so why can't you do it for spring) - A hill climb – either before Tour de PPA (this is our first choice) or before Medallion, depending on traffic permissions Entries for the 2014 league will open on 4 November 2013 and will close on Friday 10 January 2014. As in the past, cyclists will be able to enter the series as a whole; enter individual events; or join the league during the series if unable to ride the first event. For more information, please email leagues@pedalpower.org.za. We look forward to an exciting league series in 2014. Yours in cycling The PPA Team" my comments - i knew the Cape Cobra was off a month ago - so what other event was cancelled. organisers want leagues - they attract more riders - this is a poor excuse i have seen the approval by west cape to sanction ppa events - tacit approval , its either approved or not there's nothing tacit about it. Resolution to what , you have your sanctioning by local body seeded category riding - ag pleez what next as in the past - you had to pay upfront for the full series. finis & klaar , come rain or shine. u lie , u lie , u lie
  11. the juniors just don't seem to be progressing. here are a few results : team pursuit - 16 out of 19 teams (they still rode a sa record) 10k scratch - 15th out of 18 - rider seemed to content just to make final, same with points race 20/20 Omnium - 19th out of 23 1000m TT - 21 out of 30 and 30 out of 30 lets not event discuss why 1 of our riders missed a 'losers final'
  12. it is owned by the cyclist but is fully bonded i believe that there should be national squads especially for the juniors as they have 2 shots at worlds but how do you get them to world standard. u can't compete at worlds if you don't qualify - match sprint u need to ride 200 metres in a certain time - and the only way to get to world standard is to be based in europe + that takes money. lets face it cycling is a cinderella sport and gov won't pour money into it. but don't discount the level of knowledge that gov has of cycling , if i remember correctly the minister of sport rode the Argus and so have other gov officials
  13. if that's what you think then you are only on the periphery of the sport and do not have any idea how the sport of cycling is run. i'm sorry i'm not trying to belittle you. the csa exco is elected by the provincial/regional delegates. when ppa were in the csa they were part of the elections - the 1st chairman of csa was a ppa man.
  14. huh...i have been riding in the winter series since april for my club. how come you guys at outriders didn't know about it. we received emails every week.
  15. a very reluctant administrator - is still an active cyclist. top trackie in his day. even when in his 40's he was still giving the young sprinters a good hard race. finished 5th in Worlds vets in match sprint a few years ago. numerous sa champs in points and sprint on track has the cyclist at heart especially the youngsters
  16. other than being csa president do you know what William Newman has done for or achieved in cycling for the past 30 years? if so enlighten us

    WPCA TTT

a fantastic event - great for club spirit. distance is perfect but route isn't easy. to do it in under 2 hrs is good.
  18. me too , on my bike
  19. you can ride in any kit at worlds.....but don't be a chop and rock up in the w champs kit. wrt the above design , only an administrator could of designed that crap.
  20. report to a guy call glen bonthuys at the bellville velodrome on a wednesday evening from about 6.30pm. or call marks bicycle workshop in bellvile and speak with duncan mcintyre. both glen & duncan run training sessions. glen for the novices and duncan for the more skilled and faster riders.
  21. a company wants to thank their existing clients and maybe attract new clients so they organise a sponsored golf day. all the "players" (pardon the pun) then meet up in the lounge/bar afterwards and swop war stories and hopefully score a deal. i don't see how mtb'ing can compare
  22. i don't want to play devils advocate BUT if u have time keepers then that means it is an organised event and the invitors could get into trouble if an invitee was hurt/injured/killed etc
  23. who is going to take charge of the start and finish?
  24. its so great for the kids to be able to enjoy this activity
  25. i heard that he was bought out. maybe he is now employed there.
