  1. Thanks Captain. You too. Cape Town cyslists, remember 16th August at Jubilee Square at 08h30!!!
  2. Nasser Arend Fundraising Cyling Event On Sunday the 16th August we are requesting all friends of cycling to meet @ Jubilee Square Simons Town between 8.30am and 9.30am in order to show our support for our fellow cyclist in need, we hope to run a collection for funds towards Nasser much needed cancer treatment. We are appealing to one and all to make a donation as generous as their pockets allow. This appeal goes out to fellow cyclist but is by no means limited to them, we welcome one and all to come show your support...we don't care whether you come by bicycle, motor bike, bus or train even by OX WAGEN just come!!! "In the event of rain collection will still take place."
  3. As I am posting this, I called Nasser. He is at Groote Schuur waiting on his chemo treatment. I informed him about the response on the hub and both he and his wife are totally overwhelmed and grateful for the support.
  4. Hi guys Thought Id post a picture of Nasser and his wife. These pics were taken during the 2007 DC. Please support in any way you can.
  5. Slowbee, have a look at Silverback. I was is your position a few months back and the Silverback was definitely the best value for money in that price range, plus it looks pretty damn cool.
  6. I'm with the colonel here. Being in the financial services industry I would never ever advise anyone to buy anything on credit - it is a vicious cycle (excuse the pun). Rather save up for your bike and buy it cash.
  7. I got my new baby last week - never been on a mtb before and a buddy took me on my first ride to Tokai forest. Absolutely brilliant!! As part of my initiation, I had to go through thick sand and obviously came off spectacularly. The problem I now have is that my chain (and everything else) is full of sand. What is the best (and quickest) way to get rid of sand on my chain. Also are there any MTB sites that I can visit to enlighten me?
  8. Anyone who rides without a helmet is a complete and utter idiot!!!
  9. I also had no ID, letter, email or race number. They have someone in the corner who asks for your name and they will give you your number. You can then go fetch your pack once you have the number.
  10. Thanks guys Splat - your short rides that you are going to do - how short and will they be high intensity? Are you including sprints?
  11. Hi All I've just spent 9 hrs on my behind doing the DC. I have entered for the Burger but I am noit sure how to handle this week. Should I take a complete break to recover? Two of my buddies said they suffered after their first DC last year as they had only done mileage training, no speedwork. Any advice would be appreciated.
  12. Not sure where Suikerbosrand is, but you should've been in Swellendam. The DC is where the action was.
  13. I feel gutted! My prayers to the family and friends of those affected by this tragedy.
  14. starting in E at 6h20
  15. Surely you meant "reward" and not "punishment" I think Oukaapse definitely!
  16. I flew in from Cape Town (my flight was delayed) and only go there at 2pm. Was not very impressed with expo. Maybe it should be scrapped completely and they could post our numbers to us. I think the out of towners don't need all the additional hassles.
  17. It's a pity not all cyclists are hubbers, then at least they will be "informed" about what is happening and how they could influence situations. I have a few buddies in my group who often ride two or three abreast, ignoring calls from others. I don't think they realise that those same motorists then take it out on some other innocent cyclist at another time.
  18. I have not asked but I don't think so. Will pick up the new pair tonight.
  19. A couple of weeks ago I posted to say my 5 month old Shimano shoes had come loose at the stitching. My LBS sent it back to Shimano as they have never had any problems with Shimano shoes. Today I got the good news that I will be getting a brand new pair of shoes!! BTW thanks for all the advice on fixing the old pair that came loose at the soles. I used glue and it worked perfectly - I guess I will stick with it for the 94,7.
  20. Done! Hoekom het ek nie geld gekry nie?
  21. My previous posts regarding spinning time vs road time sparked a few comments regarding endurance on indoor trainer. I feel I get endurance on indoor trainer as I spin on average between 1h15 and 2hrs. There has only been one time that I had a one hour session as I feel anything less than this is a waste. I do intervals as well as high cadence spinning. My spinning bike is setup in my TV room and I generally spin while watching a football or rugby match. Some of my buddies think I am crazy for pinning so long as they do it for about half an hour on average. For the guys who spin more regularly than others, what is the average time and what do you do during that session?
  22. Hi All I've read somewhere that an hour on a spinning bike is worth two hours on the road (no stops, wheelsucking, traffic etc). Due to work, family and travel commitments I spin quite a bit and would like to know if there are any other opinions on this as my training program is generally based on time. Thanks
  23. Hi all My 5 month old Shimano cycling shoes came loose at the stitching. Took it to LBS and they had to send it to JHB and I will only get it next week. My trusty old pair (which I only spin in, has come loose at the sole (spinning too hard). We are doing 160 km on Sat & 110 km on Sun (training for DC). I cannot miss the ride and will have to go with shoes that has come loose at the sole. Can't take it to shoemaker as glue will need a couple of days to set. Any recomendations on what I can do with the old pair?
  24. My pump is now permanently in the bottom draw. I've been carrying two bombs with me whenever I cycle. Have not yet had the opportunity to use it for myself (I guess I'm in a spot of bother when it does happen!) but have been able to help out a couple of buddies.
  25. Wflyer ,where in Cape Town can I check the felt f5 out? Any website you know of?
