  1. Good old 5FM format, quite cool. Mix FM is the best radio station in Jozi, some talk mostly cool music
  2. It looks more like they are the Zebra team, not Qhubeka team, jailbirds comes to mind too. I prefer the bumble bee look, amateurish looking kit indeed
  3. This thread goes to prove that one does not have to be clever to be a good cyclist, the dumber the stronger sometimes. LOL! That is why I am a pathetic competitive cyclist.
  4. Track cycling is growing by leaps and bounds, just look at the Gauteng weekly meets, fantastic fun and developing riders for road and track. Depends on your point of view and what you expect from cycling in general and track cycling in particular.
  5. And I am so not. Strong is the new skinny for ladies ofcourse!

    Eina

WoW, back to track cycling I go ... no gears, breaks or brains! The child is lucky though.
  7. Kudo's to the guy. Yet I do not think he should be compared with Mr Froome Dawg, apples and oranges really. And I stand by my original post, to get so very thin is not healthy, he is supported by various universaties and doctors to manage his syndrome. Good on him. Chris the same thing with his pro-team, but not an inspiration on skinny and cycling really, a lot of youngesters could be "inspired" to get anorexia. . @helpmytrap, I stated in OP that I did not read the article ... YET, and it does hit a nerve because so many people think that skinny/thinness is healthy, not true. It was a gut reaction to this original post, so what. Sometimes people react.
  8. Anything can become Psychologically addictive and have a negative effect on ones heath, cycling included. Moderation is everything. High performance sport is not always healthy, ask any high performance athlete, it takes a whole new skill set to train that hard and still keep injury free and healthy. This guy is obviously doing it wrong, looks like he also might be suffering from sports enduced anorexia, many in the peleton suffer from the same thing. (i have not read the attached article yet) Skinny is not always form, skinny is unnatural and if cyclist suffers from sports enduced anorexia, they might also be suffering from zero testosterone. The list is endless. And this is the part of cycling that does not get a lot of attention, yet affects a lot of the top cyclists. Hectic.
  9. Poor babies ... the dreaded "cone of shame" experience. Other dogs will point and bark at them.
  10. Spinning great cardio, bad strenght training. 1 or 2 a week, with further weight training afterwards. Early Mornings, road bike on indoor tacx trainer, focus to power output and cadence.
  11. You must go check out Hector Norris Park, the looters are slowly stealing all the mentis grating used to cover the drainage on the track, we now have resorted to replacing it with concrete covers, expensive as it come out of private citizens pockets, not the City of Joburg's coffers. Also stealing sign posting, pavillion seating, if it is not welded down then it is fair fame. Makes me crazy
  12. Careful, beer can make you fat! Or bloated or both! Hahaha! Enjoy, what I love about beer and cycling, is your ride to you and drink and drink so that you can ride. Love it!
  13. I used to cycle to school in high school. I think it still happens but only in the smaller towns, the city is hectic. If I have kids I would love to cycle to school with them, then fetch them with the bicycle again, best way to teach them to understand, anticipate traffic. That is what Dutch parents do too.
  14. Anybody here tried Oranjeboom, actually in some cases cheaper than SAB beer I find quite tasty. Mmm beer!
  15. Actually quite expensive for beer. Obviously catering for the crowds and the vanue etc. not the beers fault though
  16. Went to the Beerhouse on Saturday, lots of overdressed folks, check each other out, the one cooler than the other. We just rocked up there with our SS Mtb's, lekker trail kit and got lovely beer at the bar. Nice enough vibe, I have a preference to Society, quieter and I fit in better with the crowd. Food is better to IMO. But Beer is Beer, both venues are great!

    Have you ever

Have you ever driven in your car, getting to your destination and everytime you drive past a commuter cyclist, checked out the bike, parts, etc. Cannot walk, cycle or drive past any bicycle without checking it out. Do I have a problem and I am addicted to bicycle porn? LOL
  18. Its an event, specially when there would be some prizes and someone can get hurt. Be careful of the risk of liability. People are dumb and they get hurt. If you host an event you have a duty of care, very vague legal term, but means if someone gets hurt on your watch, you may be held responsible as "event" organiser.
  19. Beer is Awesome! A couple of million Dutch people drinking beer of all sorts cannot be wrong. This weekend, me, my spouse, SS MTB and lots of coffee and beer, never at once! Ready for a fun weekend!
  20. Not enough gym (power) training and start training (skills), sometimes is not just about climbing on a bike and riding. Our guys do not race enough overseas and our lads and lasses all know each others strenghts and weaknesses (typical of small racing pool), it is easy to become complacent, then when we do race at international level the experience is WOW the other cyclists are FAST. If our ladies are not able to race the guys or at least give them (the men) a hard time, then our ladies are not strong enough for world level. At least on track it is true and I suspect in the other disciplines it is true too.
  21. Last time I checked I am a lady. I prefer to ride with bibs, they fit better. But a lot of ladies prefer to ride with no-bib shorts, either way is good I guess. Currently I am riding with Santini, waiting for more money to try out the Nalini range, you could also consider a unisex short/bib, also confortable. Just checked out the Pearl Izumi Shorts, I would definitely go for the more expensive one of the two, cheaper is cheaper and not better. Good quality chamois cream is a must and needless to say, no undies under the bib/shorts, because chaffing is the ride killer. And I agree with previous post, ladies specific saddle and correct bike fit, will also go a long way.
  22. Size does not matter with regards to commuters and bikes, lol! Get and bike and RIDE it, that is all what matters. The only way to advocate cycling as an alternative means of transport is to actually, all of us, get off our flabby or (not so flabby) backsides and just RIDE. hehehe. Who cares about wheel size? This is a MTB groupy non-issue. Commuting welcomes ALL Bikes. Now have to go back to work and dream of cycling ...
  23. Sometimes I know I have great ideas on my bike, yes it is great meditating time & problem solving time & relaxing time ... if bicycles were invented in the late 20th century then it would have been sold as the greatest solution to a lot of city problems. Bikes are better inventions than the TV or the automobile, both contribute to the rising "lifestyle" health issues and makes us dumb and/or lazy. Cycling does the opposite.
  24. The logic used to be critical of TUE's is flawed. Based on some posters, no diabetic, asthmatic or anybody else with a chronic conditions should ever be allowed to race at Elite level, which is BS. If Froome is guilty of anything, time will tell, ask Lance. If he is clean, time will tell. My view of professional sport is that it is entertainment, along the same level as professional wrestling, it is there to entertain the masses, like box office movies, some of the participants are clean, some not, it is all about creating the specticle though. Reality has nothing to do with it. I think most people enjoy the controversy more that actually participating or getting actively involved in physical acitvity, it is too boring for the masses.
