  1. wow, maybe sascoc have grabbed the bull by the horns and are stepping in to assist and change the current failing structures as it seems that both ASA & CSA are happy to spend more of their finances on court appearances and lawyers fees than investing it in their respective sports.
  2. Gerhard, 1) Just because I enjoy participating and watching a sport does not mean I should be forced to contribute towards it with no return. Why don't the provincial structures organise races themselves instead of letting event organisers make the money? At an event they can charge an entrance fee (in exchange for the funride) and generate an income stream. They are also able, with a well run event, to attract sponsors. Over time they should be able to grow the event and attract partners, not just sponsors. The model is upside down at the moment. Cycling funding exists because of the fun rider. If you look after the fun rider then your income streams will grow. Look how successful PPA have been with that model. It's not a difficult model to copy. 2) The fact the CSA, the authoritative body, cannot get buy in from their sub structures to honour their commitments suggests that the business model is not working and needs to be changed. Again, perhaps they should look at the PPA model ? 3) There is plenty of sponsorship money around. The number of sponsors there are for the mountain bike stage events is proof of this. Maybe the sponsors are putting their money where they feel they will get a return on their investment. Again, look after the fun rider, create events for the fun rider where sponsors will get a return on their investment and use the funds generated from these events to sponsor the elite athletes. The return on investment for 20 track cyclists going to worlds must be close to zero.
  3. Gerhard, I understand your frustrations but PPA was started with the funrider in mind. They are the ones who organise a multitude of events for their members. As a result they have created a brand that people want to join, not have to join. Their focus is the fun rider and general social projects. Lets turn it around and ask "What events do CSA (or their Provincial Structures) organise that appeal to me as the fun rider? What have CSA done or are they doing to make me want to join their structure?
  4. The funding model has its failings and we can see that in athletics too with the ASA and KZNA debacles. The fact the CSA is unable to establish a 5 or 7 day tour shows that the people running CSA probably shouldn't be. They are probably politicians and that is where it fails. CSA is a business and should be run as such by a business person. Politics and personal agendas will get the sport nowhere.
  5. not when a potential revenue stream (read TAX) is involved !
  6. or until they amend the National Sports & Recreation Act and empower CSA by statute. basically it seems the PPA might have dodged this on a technicality that CSA or SASCOC is not empowered by law. No doubt SASCOC and CSA will probably work to amend this.
  7. anybody know what the total ascent for this race is? - ok , website has it at 1750m....not too bad, are the climbs singletrack, jeep track, smooth, rocky ?
  8. Comrades entries will pop up around April. If I was you and had invested $$ in ROTH I wouldn't go anywhere near Comrades this year. The comrades down run will hammer your quads but only you will know if you can recover in time to make your ROTH investment worthwhile. There is a theory that Comrades recovery equates to 1 day for every mile run = 55 miles which would take you right up to ROTH.
  9. sent you a PM too.
  10. Caerus, tell him to get a hold of Emile Fitzmaurice (ex-westville resident). He rides mtb and started the Doha Bay Running Club. He should be able to assist.
  11. surely one can name the owner. naming the owner does not mean he was driving but he should know who was driving or will the owner possibly report the vehicle as stolen ? hope the cyclist can recognise the driver.

  18. the tarmac & pina are both in that price range already. the pina is full ultegra-6800 11 sdp with Fulcrum racing sport wheelset and it's $100 cheaper than that time beauty.
  19. can anyone comment on the axis 2.0 brakes on the spez?

  22. My Brother-In-Law has recently relocated to Aus and wants to buy a road bike as he feels the roads there are probably a lot safer than the Jhb roads to cycle on. I would appreciate some opinions/feedback on which bike and why. They are all similarly priced. He is looking at one of the following bikes: http://www.specialized.com/au/en-au/bikes/road/tarmac/tarmac-sl4-comp-ultegra#specs http://www.pmcycles.com.au/pinarello_sdg_ultegra_6800_11_speed http://www.trekbikes.com/au/en/bikes/road/endurance_race/domane_5_series/domane_5_2/#/au/en/model/details?url=au/en/bikes/road/endurance_race/domane_5_series/domane_5_2 http://www.trekbikes.com/au/en/bikes/road/performance_race/madone_5_series/madone_5_2_h2_compact/#/au/en/model/details?url=au/en/bikes/road/performance_race/madone_5_series/madone_5_2_h2_compact not sure why both the Treks come with compact cranksets though.
