  1. I was really looking forward to a ride there on Friday
  2. I'm pretty sure no official Parkruns are going to be taking place....
  3. I saw an article today about it - they're changing it to 30 visits at the end of March and April instead of the usual 36.... https://www.discovery.co.za/vitality/gym-visits-covid-19
  4. Been loving riding this more than I expected. Still toying with the idea of lowering the front end (fork with lower axle to crown height), but I'm comfortable like it is and that would probably affect the handling.
  5. I'm loving my hydration pack from Decathlon. Have 2x 500ml soft flasks and option to use 1L or 2L bladder. Tested it on a 15km road run and then ran 50km in the Berg with it 2 days later. No issues. https://www.decathlon.co.za/p/8489273_10l-trail-running-bag-unisex-blue.html (they also have some other really good value options https://www.decathlon.co.za/26916-sport-walking-flasks-and-flask-carrying)
  6. I work it similar to you, but with my right knee As soon as I feel a 'niggle' I know it's time to retire the shoes. (This happens for me long enough before the 'injury' stage of running in shoes that are at the 'niggle' stage.)
  7. If I'm reading this correctly, it doesn't say that mtb at the reserve is ending, just that the Two The Core management contract has come to an end? (And the management of the trails wasn't that good anyway from comments further up in this thread?)
  8. I'll have a look. Haven't finished reading RT's article, but I did notice he put a fairly clear disclaimer/ conflict of interest statement at the end of it all: Disclaimer/conflict of interest statement: Since 2009, adidas SA has sponsored a local road race called Two Oceans, and I wrote training programmes for the public for that event on their behalf. I also provided running training and physiology advice to clubs and at workshops sponsored by adidas SA. I had no involvement with the global parent company on shoe development or sales, and at my request, a contract clause that stipulated that I did not comment on or promote their shoes. If that leads you to dismiss the above arguments, that’s your prerogative, though I’d argue that the criticism here is not of Nike, who in fact are acknowledged for making an amazing shoe, but of the policy that allowed it. Your call on interpretation.
  9. Ross's take on the shoe 'debate' - Running shoe tech: The Emperor’s clothes, and the issues for the integrity of runninghttps://sportsscientists.com/2020/02/running-shoe-tech-the-emperors-clothes-and-the-issues-for-the-integrity-of-running/
  10. 340ml, not 75ml, but prices definitely inflated and by the time you add shipping it's more expensive than buying at dischem. They had 2 big ones for about R180 in December and then 1big/1 small for R180 in Jan. I only use Techniblock. I buy a box direct from a supplier every 2 years. Great stuff.
  11. I'm a fairly light runner - can get 1000km out of a pair of shoes and did a few marathons and a comrades in my Rockets. They were my favourite shoes out of all the 'minimalist' stuff I tried. But our selection in SA was useless - I had to get someone to bring me shoes from the US because I couldn't get what I wanted here. Not a big enough market here for those things, so not enough selection. Those shoes just look right to me. I can't get used to the look of the Hoka/ Adidas prototype/ Nike Next% stuff.
  12. I agree. I did the Mont-Aux-Sources marathon route on a Wednesday morning beginning of November - it cost me petrol money from Joburg and back and R140 for a night at Mahai. (Tip for Mahai - cheaper to not pre-book if you now there's not going to be an issue with availability.) I plan to do the chain ladder route starting at Witsieshoek day 1 and Tugela gorge route from Mahai day 2 some time in the next month or 2 on a Tue/Wed and 2 days of running in Golden Gate on another Tue/Wed trip. Edit: adding a Mnweni running trip too!
  13. I also liked the comments section for ads - I know the comments could sometimes get out of hand, but in general I found them useful that you could check for answered questions that were missing from the ad or other hubbers could give advice on weather or not a part would work on someone's bike.
  14. I'm having an issue with email notifications for the past few days - they've become very random - every now and then an email notification comes through but not all of them and for some topics I'm following I get no notifications at all.
  15. Those shoes make me want to buy Adidas racing shoes again. Always ran in Adidas from when I started running in about 1992. Had 7 pairs of Rockets a few years ago that lasted me a few years - similar looking shoe to the Takumi Sen. Been running in Maxed shoes for the last 4 years - I generally know what works for me and buy a few different pairs at a time online for the price of one pair of shoes from the other brands and I can still get 500 - 1200km out of a pair. *I had the Adizero Rocket (I see there is a new Rocket which is nothing like the old ones.)
  16. But you also get the instant 100 miles for achieving a goal - so you get a total of 150 miles - which is still 1 free coffee a week. (But the bigger vouchers will take longer to get than they used to I think.)
  17. I agree. I stopped using my points on coffee vouchers long ago. Will take longer now to get a nice R500 Cape Union voucher. But I'm not complaining.
  18. My wife had a 300 on her board. I see the conversion from left over points to miles last week kept the same value - 25 points x 6 = 150 miles (which both equate to a coffee)
  19. It's still 2 free coffees (150miles per coffee) - so the non-Rand value is the same as 2x 25 - BUT I would have probably got more than 2x 25 on the old play board.
  20. Minimum of 50 miles, max of 100 per play + 100 instant miles for each goal achieved per week. Not quite the same value as before, but still a nice added bonus on top of all the other benefits I receive for living my life like I would normally live it anyway.
  21. For well-priced good quality kit you can also check Decathlon - I've been very impressed with the stuff I've bought there.
  22. Awesome! Planning on taking my 10 year old daughter up there for the Sunday/Monday of easter weekend in April. Do they limit the numbers on the trail, do we need to make a pre-booking or can we just rock up and pay for a permit at Sentinel car park? I plan to drive up early Sunday morning, park at Sentinel car park, spend the night up at the falls and then come back down Monday and drive home or camp at Mahai for the night (my favourite spot). Planning on getting to the Berg regularly this year. My 'happy place'. I need to do the Tugela Gorge trail on one of my trips this year.
  23. Finally have working brakes and gears after I changed the brake calipers and chainring. ZENO Speed Clip Dual Piston Mechanical Disc Brake Set - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074HT4Z5P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (short vs long pull - this is the best explanation I could find - https://bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/20809/what-is-the-actual-cable-pull-of-brake-levers) 42 tooth 1x chainring (also got a 44) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XYNWYM8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Had to move the BB spacers around again to get enough clearance for the chainring teeth on the drive side. Sprayed it with some spray-paint I still had lying around just to get a basic idea - still need to strip it again and spray it completely.
  24. You can use S Health and/or Huawei Health on any Android device. They'll sync with your account so you can access on any other device you're logged into the app on and sink to discovery via the discovery app on your device.
